Question: Is laziness a disease? Is procrastination a disease? If they are then what are the motivating factors to get rid of such things?
Of course, laziness is a disease. It is coming from sheytan too. How are you going to get rid of laziness?
You are going to light a fire on your back whenever you are lazy and you say, ‘I still want to rest.’ Burn yourself. As much as you can take the fire, rest and be lazy! If you say it hurts you, then get up. Move around.
How are you going to get rid of laziness? Maybe you should reach rock bottom first, what laziness is teaching you. Then you don’t know what life is. If a man says, ‘I cannot help it, I’m still lazy,’ then we say, wait, life will teach you. Don’t wait for nothing. Life is going to teach you, whether you can continue being lazy or not. Because this world, is not easy to live in. This world, every single thing in this world has a cost. Nothing is free. So if you are lazy, wait for you to destroy yourself, to hurt yourself, then you yourself, you will know, ‘if I get lazy it’s going to hurt me. It’s going to hurt others around me.’ That’s the time you are going to change. Otherwise, no words, no lectures is going to change you.
They say in Turkish, ‘sometimes one smack, it is better than seventy thousand words of advice.’ So many people they are like that. You keep advising them, advising them, advising them, they don’t change. But when they get one smack, then suddenly they wake up. That is also human nature. That happens a lot to the earlier nations too, where they are not going to go back to the way of Allah unless they get smack again and again and again, then they turn their way to Allah. We are the nation of the most beloved one (asws). We should not behave like the earlier nations. We should not wait for a smack to wake us up. We should use our intelligence to know how much Allah has given us so much blessings.
This religion is teaching us, five times a day, we have to get up and move to give thanks to Allah. You have to get up and pray. You have to renew your wudhu. People are saying this is a religion of laziness. That one is squarehead! Empty head completely! Because there is no religion that is more active than this one. Because our religion is not just once a week religion. Our religion is not only five times, our religion is 24/7. That is our religion. Of course, nowadays muslims have made it to be like that, that’s a different story. Some muslims, from Friday to Friday. Some muslims from Bayram to Bayram, from Eid to Eid, they become Muslim. That’s a different story.
