The Key To Happiness In This Life And The Hereafter

BismillahirRahmanirRahim

All praises are due to Allah swt, the Lord of the Universes.  All praises are due to Allah who is the First, the Last, the Manifest, the Hidden. The One who has Might and Power over all things. and may all peace and blessings be upon the Sultan of the Messengers, the Imam of the Prophets, the Crown of Creation, the lamp of Guidance, the beloved of Allah Sayidinna Maulana Muhammad Alaihi salatu wa salam, and upon his noble family and blessed companions, and all those who follow them until the last day.

Hoja Effendi11

Ayuhal Mu’minoon. O Believers, welcome to you on this blessed day and Mubarak day of Jumma. Welcome to you on the twelfth day of the month of Safar.

O Believers. We must understand the reality of this world, of this dunya and not let it to trick and to trap us. Allah swt is saying in the Holy Quran, “know that the life of this world, it is only play and amusement, pomp and mutual boasting among you. And rivalry in respect of wealth and children. Just like the vegetation after rain and the growth is pleasing to the tiller; afterwards in dries up and you see it turning yellow; then it becomes straw. But in the Hereafter, there is a severe punishment and there is forgiveness from Allah, and His good pleasure for the believers, whereas the life of this world, it is only a deceiving enjoyment.”

The Holy Prophet (asws) is saying, ‘the dunya is the prison for the Believers and the Paradise of the Unbeliever.’ And Hazreti Hasan al-Basri (QadasAllahu sirrah) is giving advice to us, speaking about the reality of this dunya and saying, ‘beware of this land, it is decaying, it is misleading and it is deceiving; being decorated by its lies and having tricked so many by its traps and having killed its people with its hopes. It looks forward with anticipation towards the one who proposes to it for marriage because it becomes like an unveiled bride; all the eyes are looking towards it and the souls are in love with it and the hearts are captivated by it.’

O Believers. Understand that the promises of this world, they are false and that the ones who chase after this dunya, they are destroyed. Allah swt is saying in Surahtul Hud, ‘BismillahirRahmanirRahim. Whoever desires the life of this world and its glitter, We fully repay them for their deeds therein and they therein they will not be deprived. Those are the ones for whom that is not in the Hereafter but the fire, and lost is what they did and worthless is what they used to do.’

One of the greatest Awliya Allah, Hazreti Ibrahim ibn Adham was travelling in the desert one day when an arrogant type of soldier approached him and said, ‘who are you?’

Hazreti Ibrahim said, ‘a servant.’

The soldier then said, ‘where is the city.’

Hazreti Ibrahim pointed to the graveyard. The soldier said, ‘ you are making fun of me!’ and he started beating Hazreti Ibrahim’s head and he broke it. Blood was pouring out of Hazreti Ibrahim’s head and this soldier put a rope around Hazreti Ibrahim’s neck and dragged him. Some people from the nearby city saw that and yelled at the soldier saying, ‘O you ignorant one, this is Ibrahim ibn Adham, the friend of Allah.’

The soldier put his head on Hazreti Ibrahim’s head and began begging for forgiveness and said, ‘you told me you are a servant.’

Hazreti Ibrahim said to him, ‘who is there that is not a servant?’

The soldier said, ‘I broke your head and you still prayed for me.’

Hazreti Ibrahim said, ‘I prayed for you to be blessed because I will be rewarded with Paradise for the way you treated me and I don’t want you to earn Hell for giving me reward.’

Finally the soldier said, ‘why did you point to the graveyard when I asked you where  the city was?’

Hazreti Ibrahim said, ‘because everyday I see that the graveyard becomes more crowded while the city becomes more empty.’

temporary world

This the reality of this dunya. It is temporary. It is fading. And it is false. Our reality is not in this life but in the next life. So how do we live properly in this dunya so that we can reach the safety in the next life?

The Holy Prophet (asws) is telling his Hadiths e-Shareef how to reach safety. He is saying, ‘The world is cursed and everything in it is cursed except for the Zikr of Allah, good deeds, the person of knowledge and the ones who learn from them.’ If an intelligent person looks to the reality of that statement, he will see that the Holy Prophet (asws) is saying that the only way to not be cursed in this dunya is to be in association with the Sheykh. To be in a Tarikat.

Alhamdulillah we have been blessed that we are in the association of one of the greatest Sheykh in the most distinguished Tarikat. What are we learning in the association of our Sheykh?

We are learning to remember Allah. We are learning to increase in our good deeds and we are sitting with the person of knowledge and trying to be the ones who are learning. If we remain firm in this way, if we remain firm in the sohbet of our Sheykh then, InsyaAllah ar-Rahman, we are fitting into the category of those who are saving  themselves from being cursed in this dunya.

As our Sheykh SahibulSaif is saying, ‘Tariqatuna Sohbet wa khayru fil jamiat. Association brings people the awareness of who they are and who is their Lord. Two things sohbet associations teaches man – it makes man aware of himself and it makes man to be aware of his Lord. These are the two most important matters that man has to learn. If man is not learning this he can claim as much as he wants that he is a religious man, he is just becoming a robot going up and down. You may be knowing the rituals, the orders that are coming – this is how you have to pray, this is how you have to make wudu, this is how you have to do – but it’s not giving you so much. It has to make you aware of yourself. Who are you and who is your Lord?’

In reality, O Believers, the only safety, the only happiness in this life and in the next life is to be in the association of a friend of Allah. One of the Grandsheykhs of the Shazhili Tarikat, Hazreti Ghaus al Madian is saying, ‘what pleasure is there in this life other than the sohbets of the friends of Allah. They are the Sultans. They are the Masters. They are the Princes. So join their Sohbet and learn the edep of their gathering and keep your duty to them even if they ignore you. So spend your time with them wisely and always be fully present with them and understand that Allah is always happy with the ones who are with His friends.’

O Believers, if we want to leave this dunya with the safety, we should stick to the association of our Sheykh. No matter what. Because his way, it is the highest way of all and it brings the pleasure of Allah.

We are ending with the words of Hazreti Abdul Rahman Jami who was a murid of our Grandsheykh Khwaja Ubaidullah Ahrar, who said about this Tarikat, ‘the Naksibendi Sheykhs are the Chiefs of the Caravan. They take their mureeds to the sacred house from a secret road. All the Lions of the world are related to this Tarikat. How could foxes hope to tear this Tarikat apart?’

O Believers. Advice to me and to you, remain in the way of SahibulSaif until our last breath no matter the difficulty, so that InsyaAllah, we will be counted as amongst the Lions.
