All praises are due to Allah, the Lord of the Universes.
All praises are due to Allah who has created the Heavens and the Earth and all that is between them. All praises are due to Allah who created our Father Adam (AS), and has honored the Children of Adam. All praises are due to He who sent His Beloved, Sayyidina Muhammad (AS), as the Mercy to the Universes. And may all peace and blessings be upon the Intercessor of the Sinners, the Friend of the Strangers, the Goal of the Seekers, the Lamp of Guidance, the Pride of the Universes, Sayyidina Muhammad (AS), and upon his Noble Family and Blessed Companions, especially upon the Khulafa-e-Rashideen, Hz. Abu Bakr el-Siddik, Hz. Umar el-Faruk, Hz. Osman el-Ghani, and Hz. Ali el-Murtaza, and upon all those who follow them until the Day of Judgment.
O Believers! Welcome to you on this Holy Day of Jummah. In this Holy Day of Jummah, we must not forget to send Salawats on the Holy Prophet (asws). Because he is saying in his Hadith Sherif, ‘Increase your recital of the Durood Shareef on the days and nights of Jummah. I will be a witness and intercessor on the Day of Qiyamah for such a person.’ O Believers! We are welcoming the Holy Month of Rabiul Ahir. We are asking our Lord Allah (swt) to accept our weak service in the month of Rabiul Awwal, and to let this new month of Rabiul Ahir to be a month in which we become better servants to our Lord.
O Believers! Never forget that we are the servants of Allah (swt). We may acquire thousands of fake titles in this world, but we are Allah’s servants. Because Allah (swt) is saying in the Holy Quran,“Verily, I did not create the jinn and the Mankind except to know me and to worship me.” He did not create us except as His Servants. And we have taken an oath in pre-eternity to be the Servants of Allah. Because he asked every soul on the Day of Promises, “Alastu bi Rabbikum- Am I not your Lord.” And we all replied,” Bala- Verily you are our Lord.”
The reason of our creation is to be the Servant of Allah. And Allah (swt) is testing to see if we are going to keep our promise and to live in this dunya and to leave from this dunya being His Servant.
So how can we test ourselves in this world every day to ask ourselves, ‘am I being the Servant of Allah? Am I following the Order of my Lord?’ It is so easy to just say with the tongue, ‘I am the Servant of Allah.’ It is so easy to just say with lip-service that we are fulfilling our promise to our Lord. But Allah (swt) is putting a test on our servanthood in the Holy Quran. He is saying, “Say to them, O Muhammad, ‘if you love Allah, then obey me, Allah will love you and forgive your sins.'”And in another ayat Allah (swt) is saying, ‘Whoever has obeyed the Messenger has obeyed Allah.’ So Allah (swt) is putting it so clearly that for a person to be in obedience to Allah, for a person to be the servant of Allah, then that person must be following and obeying the Holy Prophet (asws).
The Sahaba-e-Kiram, the Companions of the Prophet, they ran with all of their energy to be in full obedience to the Holy Prophet (asws). In order to be the servants of Allah, they became the servants of the Holy Prophet (asws). One diplomat who visited the Holy Prophet (asws), when he went back to his people, he described the love and the obedience of the Sahaba-e-Kiram, saying: ‘O people! By Allah, I have been to the kings and to the Caesar, Khosrau and An-Najashi, yet I have never seen any of them respected by his attendants as much as Muhammad is respected by his Sahaba. By Allah, if he spat, the spit would fall in the hand of one of them who would rub it on his face and skin; if he ordered them, they would carry out his order immediately; if he performed ablution, they would struggle to take the remaining water; when he speaks, they would listen, and when they spoke, they would lower their voices and would not look at his face constantly out of respect.’
And in the Holy Quran, Allah (swt) is putting another condition for a believer to be His Servant. Just as it is so easy for a person to claim by the tongue that he is the Servant of Allah, a person can also make an empty claim to be a servant of Rasulallah (asws). Because we are living 1400 years after the Holy Prophet (asws) is veiled from this world. But there is a test to see if we obey the Prophet (asws). Allah (swt) is saying in the Holy Quran, ‘Obey Allah, Obey the Prophet, and obey your Rightly Guided Leaders.’ And the Holy Prophet (asws) is saying in his Hadith Sherif, ‘Whoever obeys me has obeyed Allah. Whoever rebels against me has rebelled against Allah. Whoever obeys my Amir has obeyed me. Whoever rebels against my Amir has disobeyed me.’
O Murids! Are we being obedient to our Rightly Guided Leader? Are we being obedient to our Amir? Are we being obedient to the Inheritor of the Prophet (asws) that has been appointed over us? That is the real test that is in front of us. Because we can check with ourselves, we can see, ‘my Master has given me an order, am I obeying it?’ And if we are obeying our Sheykh, then we are obeying the Prophet and we are obeying Allah. But if we are reblling against our Sheykh, then we are being disobedient to Allah and our Prophet. And if we are being disobedient, then we cannot claim to be a Servant of Allah.
There was once a famous Sultan of India, Sultan Mahmud Ghaznawi. And he sent one of his deputies to go and interview people to become his servant. And one of the candidates said to the deputy, ‘Tell the Sultan that I have one quality that no other servant in this world has.’
And Sultan Mahmud called this person, whose name was Malik Ayaz, into his presence. And he asked him, ‘What is your quality?’ And that servant responded, ‘Even if you put your crown on my head, and made me sit on your throne, and put the seven climates under my control, and made me the master of everyone in this dunya, I would never forget that I was a servant.’
So Sultan Mahmud hired Malik Ayaz and decided to test him. As soon as Ayaz entered the palace, Sultan Mahmud ordered him to be punished with 100 lashes. And while the whipping was happening, he sent a vizier to say to Ayaz’s ear, to say to that servant’s ear, ‘Ask the Sultan, are you whipping me because I did any crime?’ That vizier whispered in his ear saying, ‘ask the Sultan. Ask him if you are getting whip because you did any crime?’ Ayaz turned to whisper in his ear and he said, ‘That is my Master, he can do with me what he likes. I am happy with whatever my Master does to me.’
And through that total obedience, Ayaz became beloved to Sultan Mahmud. And Sultan Mahmud gave him a very high position in his palace. Some of the viziers who came from high education, high family backgrounds, they became very jealous. So Sultan Mahmud gathered them together for an important meeting and he brought out the most precious jewel in the whole kingdom. And he gave the jewel to the first vizier and said, ‘break this.’ The vizier said, ‘O My Sultan, this jewel is too valuable, I cannot break this.’ And the Sultan passed it to the next vizier, who said the same thing. The Sultan kept passing the jewel, and none of the viziers could bring themselves to break this precious jewel. Finally he gave the jewel to Ayaz and said, break this. Right away, Ayaz broke the jewel and it shattered into pieces. The Sultan said, ‘O Ayaz, how could you break this most precious jewel of my whole kingdom?’
And he answered, ‘O my Sultan, that is just a stone. Nothing is more valuable to Ayaz than your Order.’
Are we having even a little bit of that kind of obedience to our Sheykh? We must sit down and think, and be sincere with ourselves. Because until we have become the servants of our Sheykh, we cannot claim to be the servants of Allah. Until we have obedience and submission to our Sheykh, then our servanthood to our Lord will not be accepted. So for us to find safety in this world and the Next Life, we must run to make our Sheykh to be pleased with us. We must run to be servants.
As our Sheykh, Sahib el-Sayf is saying, ‘Obey Allah, obey His Prophet (sws) and obey your rightly guided leaders, those that are saying to you the orders of Allah subhana wa ta’ala. They are showing you the ways of the Holy Prophet (asws). If you keep obedience to those then you are keeping the orders of Allah subhana wa ta’ala in the Quran-e Kerim. If not, then you are a disobedient one. You are a disobedient one to the Quran-e Kerim. And then not 5 times a day, you may pray 55 times a day, you may recite the Quran all day all night long, they will ask you, have you been with the Saliheen? That’s what Allah swt is saying to us, ‘Be with the Siddiks, the Saliheen, with the righteous people. Be with them’. Have you been with them?
Being with them is sitting and listening, asking, learning, moving. He is not saying to you, `Be one of them’. He is saying to us, ‘Be with them’. Being with them, slowly one day maybe something will pass to you and you will become one of them.
If it’s not, in the Judgment Day you are going to say, `I was with this Salih, I was with this righteous one, I was with this Awliya, I was with this Sheykh’. We are asking our Lord, Allah (swt), for us not to leave this life except as being counted as a servant. Amin.
