Question: You have said so many times that Sheykh Effendi’s job is to collect leaders. What does that mean? And how is a leader supposed to conduct himself?
We look at our Sheykh, and we try to conduct ourselves according to his teachings and how he lived his life. That is enough for us. We are not here to say we are leaders, we want to become leaders, we want to be in front. That is not. Sheykh Effendi can make anyone of us to be a leader. That is his work, that is his job. That is not our business. All we know is, we were in jungles and in sewers before we met him. He pulled us away from that and he clean us up. And continuously he’s cleaning us up. With all the sohbets and washing up, it is to clean us.
We are not here to aim to become anything except to become servant. What they want to do with us after that, it is their business. He can say: sit on that chair and speak. He can say: sit far away. He can say: sit in the bathroom. It doesn’t matter to us. Because what we are concentrating now, is how to serve. If it is better for us to serve in the bathroom, serve in the bathroom. It is so much easy to serve in the bathroom. We have done that. If he says: now sit over there and speak, that time it’s not so easy. But we have to do that. So, how are we supposed to conduct? We are supposed to conduct ourselves as servants. To serve. To follow his examples, to follow his teachings. To serve Allah, to serve the Prophet, to serve our Sheykh, to serve each other. This is what we are concentrating on. Nothing more than that. Whatever that they want to do with us, it’s up to them.
We are not coming in here, no one is coming here also with any aims or hopes to become a Saint. We are not that kind of association, to say, ‘come, I can make you into a Saint. Just sit in our association, you can be a Saint. Just get one ring and wear it, you are going to be a Saint. Put one turban, you are going to be a Saint.’ Games! But there are other association that are like that, you can go. You are free.
We are here to become servants and to be sincere. Some of us may take some years, some of us may take our whole life, it doesn’t matter. We are happy on this journey. We are happy walking on this journey because we are getting to know ourselves truthfully. This much is enough. SelamAleykum.
