All praises are due to Allah, Lord of the Universes. All praises are due to Allah Who is the Most Beneficent, Most Merciful. All praises are due to Allah Who is the Master of the Day of Judgment. All praises are due to Allah who is addressing His servants in the Holy Quran, saying: “BismillahirRahmanirRahim. O My servants who have oppressed their own souls! Despair not of the Mercy of Allah, because Allah forgives all sins. He is the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful.” And may all peace and blessings be upon the Most Honored One in Divine Presence, the Intercessor of the Day of Judgment, the Imam of the Messengers, the Seal of the Prophethood, the Helper of the hopeless ones, Sayyidina wa Mawlana Muhammad (asws), and upon his noble family and blessed companions, especially upon the Four Khulafa-eRashideen, Hz. Abu Bakr el-Siddiq, Hz. Umar el-Faruq, Hz. Osman el-Ghani, and Hz. Ali el-Murtaza, and all those who follow them until the Last Day.
Ya Ayyuhal Mu’minoon. O Believers. Welcome to you in this Yawm al-Jummah. Welcome to you in this Jummah day that is falling in the Holy Month of Shaban. Welcome to you on the 11th Day of Shahru Nabi. O Believers! We are standing at the door of one of the most important days. The heavens and the earth, they are preparing. The angels and all the inhabitants of all the worlds, they are checking themselves for this day. The Friends of Allah, they are getting themselves ready for the day that we are about to enter into. But heedless 21st century mankind, heedless Muslims, they are going about their dunya business like these days and nights are regular, are normal.
Allah (swt) is asking us in the Holy Quran, “Fa ayna tazhaboon– so where then are you going?” O Believers? Where are we going? What are we about to enter into? Holy Prophet (asws) is informing us, saying: ‘Jibril (as) came to me on the night of 15th Shaban and said to me: “Ya Muhammad (asws), raise your head to the heavens!” I asked him: “What night is this?” and he replied: “This is the night when Allah (swt) opens three hundred of the gates of mercy, forgiving all who do not make anything His partner. The only exceptions are those who practice sorcery or fortune-telling, are addicted to wine, or persist in usury and illicit sex; these He does not forgive until they repent.”
At a quarter of the night, Jibril (as) came down and said: “Ya Muhammad (asws), raise your head!” So I looked up, to behold the gates of Paradise wide open. At the first gate an angel was calling: “Good news for those who bow in worship this night!” At the second gate an angel was calling: “Good news for those who prostrate themselves in worship this night!” At the third gate an angel was calling: “Good news for those who offer supplication this night!” At the fourth gate an angel was calling: “Good news for those who make remembrance this night!” At the fifth gate an angel was calling: “Good news for those who weep this night from the fear of Allah!” At the sixth gate an angel was calling: “Good news for those who submit this night!” At the seventh gate an angel was calling: “Will anyone ask, that his request may be granted?” At the eighth gate an angel was calling: “Will anyone seek forgiveness, that he may be forgiven?” I ask: “Ya Jibril, how long will these gates remain open?” He replied: “From the beginning of the night until the break of dawn.” Then he said: “Ya Muhammad (asws), tonight Allah has as many slaves freed from the Fire as the number of woolly hairs on the flocks and herds of Kalb.”
O Believers. We are about to enter into this Holy Night, Laylatul Bera’at. And our Sheykh, Sahib el-Sayf Sheykh Abdul Kerim el-Kibrisi el-Rabbani is teaching us, explaining to us, saying: But you must be careful. Shaban has the night of Bera’at, night of Calculation. That everything that you did from last year up till this year, it’s going to come for calculation and it’s going to be brought to the presence of the Lord Allah (swt). ‘My destiny. I cannot change my destiny.’ Of course you can. You can change it this way. What the pen is writing, it’s not changing. But the pen writes the way that you move, the pen writes the way that you speak, the pen writes the way that you do your actions. The pen is writing everything. 24 hours it’s writing. Right side, left side angels putting everything in accounting. And they are looking from last Shaban to this Shaban, night of Bera’at last Shaban, 15th of Shaban and this Shaban, how this servant of Allah he was moving? He was trying to move towards to Allah or he’s trying to move for dunya? How much he was trying to the way of Allah? How much he was trying to the way of Dunya? Everything comes for calculation. And it’s coming to the presence of Allah (swt).
Ya Ayyuhal Mu’minoon! We must understand and we must put the importance to these nights, to the Night that is coming. In this Beraat night, our examination is going to be taken. Our record is going to be checked. Our book is going to be stamped and sealed. O Believers! Allah (swt) is sending us the Rahmet, informing us when this night is occurring- 15th Shaban. So that we can run, so that we can take our accounting, so that we can make tafakkur, so that we can sit and realize the mistakes and the zulm that we have made in the last year. And so that we can sit and beg forgiveness for our mistakes. And so that we can sit and ask and beg that the doors to Ahiret, the doors to this Tarikat, the doors to our Sheykh, open more for us this year. This is the chance that is in front of us. We should not take it lightly, and we should not miss it.
O Believers! This is for you and for me. Give the proper care and respect to Laylatul Beraat that is coming. One of the biggest Awliya, Hz. Hasan al-Basri, he was coming out of his house before Beraat Night. And the people are saying that he looked so worried he looked like a man who had been buried and dug up. And when the people asked him about his condition he said: “By Allah, what is the disaster of a shipwrecked sailor, when compared to my own?” And the people said: “Why is that?” And Hz. Hasan al-Basri is saying: “Because I am certain of my sins, but I tremble with uncertainty over my good deeds. I don’t know whether they will be accepted of me or rejected.”
O Believers. We should check ourselves. We should look to what we have been busy with from last Beraat to this Beraat. And if we are looking sincerely, if we are looking with real eyes, then we will see. We are in need of Mercy. As our Sheykh is telling to us: Look at yourself. You must check yourself. Check your heart. Don’t let anybody say anything to you and get fooled by anyone. No. Sit alone in your room for ten minutes, fifteen minutes and say to yourself sincerely, `Look at me! Are you really living for Allah or are you really living for your ego.’ Check yourself and you will find out. You will know by yourself. Your heart will scream to you. The sound that is coming from the heart will take allover. You will hear the voices coming from all over. But the 21st Century’s ignorant and arrogant people are covering the sound that is coming from their heart, listening to their ego and everyone is thinking, ‘I reached somewhere.’
Where are you going to reach? What are you aiming for? Servants. You have to reach to servanthood. When you are going to Sejdah you have to know, ‘I am making Sejdah to You, Ya Rabbi.’ You have to know that part and nothing has to enter between you and that One. Then you’ll be alright. And in this night, we are being given a chance that we may not be given for the rest of the year. Hz. Ali (kw) is narrating that Holy Prophet (asws) said: ‘After sunset on the night of Middle of Shaban, Allah in His great mercy and kindness turns towards His creation and asks, “Is there anyone who would seek My forgiveness and I forgive him (or her)? Is there anyone who is in need to ask Me and I provide for his (or her) needs. Is there anyone who is in pain and seeks My help and I help him (or her)? Is there…? Is there…?” until the time of Dawn.
O Believers! That sound is calling. That sound is calling from the heavens. We should be the ones who are going to respond to that asking of our Lord. We should be the ones who are asking for forgiveness. We should be the ones who are asking for and begging to keep our faith, to keep our ashk, to keep our loyalty on this Way, and to never waver. And if we are looking for our record to go up clean, if we are looking for our book to be accepted, then we must make sure that we have pleased the one who is signing that book. In this Night, we have to sit down and ask forgiveness for the wrongs that we have done to Allah, the wrongs that we have done to the Holy Prophet (asws) and the wrongs that we have done to our Sheykh. And we must make intention to follow better, and to be the servants on this way, the servants in his work. That time, insha’AllahurRahman, we may have an accepted Beraat.
O Believers! Do not miss this opportunity. Because if we pass this night, insha’Allah, our year will become better. As our Sheykh is saying: We may ask forgiveness. And these are the special days, and special nights for asking forgiveness and insha’Allah, we will be receiving the blessings. If you believe in this, by next year this time, you will turn around and look, and you will say, ‘Yes it really made a difference.’ Insha’AllahurRahman, we are asking our Lord, Allah (swt), for a clean Beraat, and for the opening to a year of service to our Sheykh, Sahib el-Sayf Sheykh Abdul Kerim el-Kibrisi elRabbani. Amin.
