Ramazan: Do not look to the happiness of the Ehli Dunya. Look to the happiness of the Ehli Jannat, of the Ehli Ahiret

All praises are due to Allah, Lord of the Universes. All praises are due to Allah, who is the First, the Last, the Manifest, the Hidden, the One who has Might and Power over all things. All praises are due to Allah who created Adam (AS) from water and clay. All praises are due to Allah who has created mankind in Ahsani Taqwim, and who has honored the children of Adam. All praises are due to He who sent His Beloved as the Mercy to the Universes.

May all peace and blessings be upon the one who was a Prophet when Adam was between water and clay. May all peace and blessings be upon the one for whose sake Allah created the universes. May all peace and blessings be upon the one who went beyond the Sidratul Muntaha, and approached his Lord at the Qaba Qawsayn. May all peace and blessings be upon Sayyidina wa Mawlana Muhammad (AS), and upon his noble family and blessed companions, especially upon the Four Khulafa-e-Rashideen, Hz. Abu Bakr el-Siddiq, Hz. Umar el-Faruq, Hz. Osman el-Ghani, and Hz. Ali el-Murtaza, and all those who follow them until the Last Day.

Servant of Allah
Ya Ayyuhal Mu’minoon. O Believers. Welcome to you. Jummah Mubarek and Ramazan Mubarek. Welcome to you on this Holy Day, the First Jummah of the Holy Month of Ramazan. These are days of celebration and joys, because these are the days of the Holiest Month of the Year. Holy Prophet (asws) is saying in his Hadith Sherif: The Garden of Paradise will surely be furnished and decorated from year to year, with the entrance of the month of Ramazan. As soon as the first night of the month of Ramazan has arrived, a wind called the Whirlwind will blow from beneath the Heavenly Throne. The leaves of the trees of the Garden of Paradise will be set in a state of commotion, and the rings on the leaves of the doors will be shaken and rattled. This will give rise to a rustling and tinkling sound, far more beautiful than anything the listeners ever heard ringing in their ears before.

O Believers! These are the best days and nights of the whole year. Ghawth al-Azam Shaykh Abdul Qadir Gilani is saying, ‘The Holy month of Ramazan is the chieftain (sayyid) of the months.’ In comparison with the other months, the status of Ramazan is like that of the heart within the breast, like that of the Prophets within the human race, and like that of the Sacred Territory of Mecca among the cities of the world.

O Believers! This month of Ramazan, it is a month for us to become better. It is a month for us to run more in the way of Allah. It is a month for us to wake up and turn our hearts back to the Straight Path. This is a month that transforms the believers. Ghawth al-Azam is teaching saying that the word Ramazan in Arabic means to be scorched, to be burned by the sun. And Holy Prophet (asws) is saying that this month is called Ramazan because it scorches away the sins. O Believers! During this month, we should be running to have our sins, to have our mistakes, to have our wrong intentions and wrong actions be scorched away. This is a month for us to step on our egos and to become better servants. As our Sheykh, Sahib el-Sayf Sheykh Abd Kerim Kibrisi al-Rabbani, may Allah raise his station higher and higher, may his return be soon, is saying: ‘The month of Ramazan is coming with its blessings. Lots of blessings are coming during this month for those people who are keeping this month high, holy and respected. Those who are not keeping the month high, holy and respected should not expect anything good. They should prepare themselves for worse because Allah (swt) is saying in one ayat, “For those who are keeping their Nafs, their ego, desires, the need of their ego, stopping the need of their ego with patience, Allah (swt) will not question them on the Judgment Day and He will have endless rewards for them.”

If we want to step on our ego, as believers, during this month, if we want to transform during this month, if we want to change to become better during this month, where are we going to look? What is our example? Holy Prophet (asws) is saying to us in his Hadith Sherif: ‘My Sahaba are like the stars in the sky. Follow one and you will reach to safety.’ O Believers. The Sahaba-e-Kiram, they were the ones that they completely changed themselves, that turned themselves into the most perfect servants, that their names are written in golden alphabets in the heavens and the earth, when they submitted themselves to the Holy Prophet (asws). Listen to the words of Hz. Jafar al-Tayyar when he addressed the Najashi in Abysinnia, when he addressed the Emperor of Abysinnia.  The Empeoror asked the Muslims who had emigrated to Abysinnia, what is so special about this religion of Islam, what is so special about your Prophet?

And Hz. Jafar gave the reply saying: ‘O King! We used to be a community that was ignorant and a toy for sheytan, we used to worship idols and eat the flesh of the dead! We used to engage in all kinds of evil deeds, we did not care about family ties or neighborly rights. Whoever was strong among us would oppress the weak. Then Allah sent a Prophet from among us whose family we all knew very well, and whose truthfulness and trustworthiness was already praised among us. He invited us to know Allah as the Unique One of Absolute Unity, not to worship anyone but Him, and to leave our ancestral habit of worshipping idols that we had made with our own hands from stones and clay. He also invited us to speak the truth, to keep our promises, to strengthen the ties between relatives by visiting each other, to have good and warm relations with our neighbors. He warned us against all things that are forbidden, or prohibited, against the shedding of blood, drunkenness, gossip and lies, against stealing the rights and the assets of the orphans and against slandering women who live virtuously. He also invited us to worship Allah, who is the Unique One of Absolute Unity, and not to worship any other god beside Him, to perform the Prayers, to give zakah, the prescribed purifying alms, and we have accepted what he said and we have submitted to him in faith. We have devoted ourselves to doing what he has brought to us from Allah, to worship Allah who is One, and not to hold anything equal to Him.’

O Believers! Our examples, our stars in the sky, those Sahaba-e-Kiram, they became the best servants on the face of the Earth by completely submitting themselves to the Holy Prophet (asws). Because by submitting themselves to the Holy Prophet (asws), they managed to submit themselves to Allah. As our Sheykh, Sahib el-Sayf is saying: The Sahaba-e Kiram once upon a time were in darkness. They needed somebody. They couldn’t come out from that mess that they have entered. So Allah’s mercy has reached to them, to us and to the whole mankind. And He sent His most beloved one to them. And the only thing they did was they put their ignorance aside and they became obedient to that Prophet (asws). And they have reached to the highest station that no man ever is going to reach. Everything that they did wrong is forgiven and they have reached to the highest station in paradises that no one is going to reach easily. That’s what we are aiming for. We are trying to be with them in the Hereafter life. But we have to close doors to this kind of nonsense that is circling around in the world. So the Holy Prophet’s (asws) order we must take, we must put it on top of our head even if it is not good for our own ego. Anything that the Holy Prophet (asws) is forbidding us, definitely it’s not going to be good for our own ego.

We are not in this world to support our ego. We are in this world to obey Allah and to obey His Prophet (asws) and to obey our leaders, those ones that Allah appointed to us. We must obey them. Those ones who are calling us to Allah and His Prophet (asws), we must obey them. Disobedience to them is obedience to Sheytan and to ego. Obedience to them is disobedience to your ego and to Sheytan. So which side you think we should take as believers? As we said earlier, don’t think that you are special. We are only special, we can be only special as much Taqwa that we have. As much obedience to Allah and His Prophet (asws), then definitely that much higher station you are going to go. Then yes there are differences. Then there are differences among the children of Adam. That is the difference that man can have. You want to be a different one? Obey Allah and His Prophet (asws) and those ones that Allah appointed to us. The more obedience to them, the higher station you reach. The higher station you reach the more you leave the nonsense of this dunya.

So what is that kind of obedience and submission that Seyh Efendi is talking about? One time, Hz. Umar el-Faruq (ra) was sitting with the Holy Prophet (asws) and he said, ‘Ya Rasulallah, I love you so much that if you told me to kill myself, I would kill myself.’ And the Holy Prophet (asws) became so happy and said, ‘Verily from mankind there are men whose faith is stronger than the mountains.’

O Believers! That is the example in front of us. That is the level of submission, that is the level of obedience, that is the level of muhabbet that we must be running toward. And that road, it is not an easy road. Allah (swt) is saying to us in Surah Ankabut, BismillahirRahmanirRahim, do men think that they will be left alone on saying, “we believe”, do men think that we will leave them alone just because they say, “we believe”, and that they will not be tested? We tested those before them, and Allah will certainly know those who are true from those who are false. If we want to be with the Sahaba-e-Kiram, then we must prepare ourselves to go through what they went through. As Hz. Shams Tabrizi (qs) is saying: The midwife knows that when there is no pain, the way for the baby cannot be opened and the mother cannot give birth. Likewise, for a new self to be born, hardship is necessary. Just as clay needs to go through intense heat to become strong, Love can only be perfected in pain.

During these days and nights of Ramazan, the opportunity is being given to us to sit, and to think, and to run to change ourselves. During these days it is easier for the believers to put themselves back into the Right Way, into the Siratul MustaqimInsha’Allah in these days, we can sit and concentrate and understand what in reality we are striving for. And insha’Allah if we are running to make our Lord, to make our Prophet, to make our Sheykh to be pleased with us, then during this Ramazan the doors will be open more wide to us to run in the way of Allah. InsyaAllah ar-Rahman.

O Believers, we must run to walk in the footsteps of Sahaba-e-Kiram. Do not look to the happiness of the Ehli Dunya. Look to the happiness of the Ehli Jannat, of the Ehli Ahiret. Look to make the Ehli Ahiret to be happy with us. That time, insha’Allah, we are going to reach to safety. As our Sheykh is saying: We are watching the hadith of Rasulullah (asws) and we are very happy about it. He is saying, “Islam began strange and it’s going to end strange. Blessings and protection to the strangers. Especially those who are going to come in the Ahir Zaman, in the End of Times.”

That news is for the people who are living now because we are in the second Jahiliyya  and we are almost at the end of that Jahiliyya too. The good news is that the Protector is waiting to appear inshaAllah ar-Rahman. We must be looking forward to that. Are we ready for that? Are we ready to leave our mothers? are we ready for that? Are we ready to leave our fathers? Are we ready to leave our wives? Or are we ready to leave our husbands? Are we ready to leave our children? You must search in yourself. You must look into yourself because the Holy Prophet (asws) is saying, “Those who are going to reach to those days, when entering through that door, a difficult test is going to be waiting for them too.” The Sahaba-e Kiram have been tested. They have been tested with their lives and with everything that they had. They have been tested and they passed. And Allah swt is warning us, saying to us, “Do you think that you are going to enter into the same Paradises with those without going through the same tests that they went through?” Do you think so? Think again.

Ya Rabbi! We are asking you in this month of Ramazan, to make us to change to become better ones. We are asking you to make our hearts more firm on the Truth, to increase our Submission, our Obedience, and our Muhabbet to our Sheykh. We are asking you to write us amongst those ones who are walking in the footsteps of Sahaba-e-Kiram in the Ahir Zaman. We are asking to be counted amongst those strangers who are receiving the Selams of the Holy Prophet (asws). Amin.
