All praises are due to Allah, Lord of the Universes. All praises are due to Allah who is the First, the Last, the Manifest, the Hidden, the One who has Might and Power over all things. All praises are due to Allah who created mankind from water and clay. All praises are due to Allah who has honored the Children of Adam. All praises are due to Allah who sent His Most Beloved One, Sayyidina Muhammad (AS), as the Rahmatalil Alameen.
And may all peace and blessings be upon the Imam of the Messengers, the Sultan of the Prophets, the Master of the First and the Last, the Sahib of the Makam al-Mahmud, the Grandfather of Hasan and Huseyin, Sayyidina Muhammad (asws), and upon his noble family and blessed companions, especially upon the Four Khulafa-e-Rashideen, Hz. Abu Bakr el-Siddiq, Hz. Umar el-Faruk, Hz. Osman el-Ghani, and Hz. Ali el-Murtaza, and all those who follow them until the Last Day.
O Believers! Welcome to you in this Holy Day of Jummah. Welcome to you on the First Jummah of the Holy Month of Muharram. These are days that Allah (swt) is giving us as an opportunity to fix our mistakes from the past, and to become better and move forward in the future. We must be awake and aware during these days to catch these blessings. And we must be present in these Holy Days and Nights with good manners.
Understand the days and nights we are in. Holy Prophet (asws) is saying in his Hadith Sherif: One year consists of twelve months, and three of those months are sacred and come one after another; Zul Qaida, Zul Hijjah, and Muharram, and the fourth is Rajab. And specifically about this month of Muharram, Holy Prophet (asws) is telling us: The best fasting after the month of Ramazan is in the month of Allah, which they call the Sacred Month, al-Muharram. And the best namaz after the Farz namaz, and after the Tahajjud namaz, is the Namaz of Ashura. And during this Holy Month of Muharram, Allah (swt ) has placed a tremendous day inside the Month. And this day is not like any other day in the whole year.
That day is the Day of Ashura, which we are going to enter into Thursday night insha’Allah. And Ghawth al-Azam Abdul Qadir Gilani (ks) is transmitting a Hadith from the Holy Prophet (asws) about Ashura, saying that Holy Prophet (asws) said: If someone fasts on the day of ‘Ashura’, Allah will record in his favor the Ibadet of sixty years devoted to fasting by day and keeping Tahajjud by night. If someone fasts on the day of ‘Ashura’, he will be granted the spiritual reward of a thousand martyrs. If someone fasts on the day of ‘Ashura’, Allah will grant him the reward of the inhabitants of the seven heavens. If someone provides a believer with a meal to break his fast on the night of ‘Ashura’, it will be just as if the entire Ummat-i-Muhammad had broken fast as his guests, and had filled their stomach to capacity. If someone strokes the head of an orphan with his hand on the day of ‘Ashura’, for every hair on the orphan’s head, Allah will raise him by one degree in the garden of Paradise.
At that point, Hz. Umar (ra) said, ‘Ya Rasulallah, Allah has treated us with favor, by granting us the day of ‘Ashura’!”
Holy Prophet (asws) then continued, saying, ‘Allah (swt) created the heavens and the earth on Ashura. He created the mountains and the stars on the day of ‘Ashura’. He created the Arsh and the Kursi on the day of ‘Ashura’. He created the Tablet [Lawh] and the Pen (Qalam) on the day of ‘Ashura’. He created Jibril and all the other angels on the day of ‘Ashura. He created Adam (as) on the day of ‘Ashura’. Hz. Ibrahim was born on the day of ‘Ashura’, and Allah rescued him from the fire of Nimrud on the day of ‘Ashura’, and saved Ismail (as) from being sacrificed on the day of ‘Ashura’. He caused Firaun to drown on the day of ‘Ashura’. He raised Idris (as) up to heaven on the day of ‘Ashura’. He relieved Hz. Ayyub of his agony on the day of ‘Ashura’ He raised Isa (as) on the day of ‘Ashura’, and Isa was born on the day of ‘Ashura.’ Allah accepted the Tawba of Adam (as) on the day of ‘Ashura’, and He accepted the dua’ of Dawud (as) on the day of ‘Ashura’. Allah (swt) granted kingship to Hz. Suleyman on the day of ‘Ashura’.
Allah (swt) established Himself upon the Heavenly Throne on the day of ‘Ashura’. The Day of Judgment will occur on the day of ‘Ashura’. The first rain fell from the sky on the day of ‘Ashura’. The first gift of mercy came down from above on the day of ‘Ashura’. If someone makes a ghusl on the day of ‘Ashura’, he will never experience any illness, apart for the sickness of death. If someone decorates his eyes with Kuhl on the day of ‘Ashura, he will not suffer inflammation of the eyes throughout the entire course of the year. If someone pays a visit to a sick person on the day of ‘Ashura’, it is just as if he had visited all the children of Adam. If someone gives a thirsty person a drink of water on the day of ‘Ashura, it is just as if he had never disobeyed Allah (swt) for a single instant. If someone performs four rakaats of Namaz on the day of ‘Ashura, reciting Fatiha and 50 Ikhlas in each Rakat, Allah (swt) will forgive him the sins of fifty past years, and of fifty years that are still in the future Allah (swt) will also build for him, in the midst of the heavenly company a thousand palaces of light. And also in this Day, as our Sheykh is teaching us, Nuh (as) and the believers reached safety in their ship.
O Believers! What more do we need to hear about the greatness, about the tremendousness, about the sacredness of the day of Ashura that we are approaching? These are the words of Holy Prophet (asws) reaching to us through the Evliyaullah. And if we really look at those words that Holy Prophet (asws) is saying and use our intelligence to understand them, we are going to see that this Hadith is pointing to one thing. Who is Holy Prophet (asws) saying is going to get the favor of Allah (swt) in Ashura? The person who is giving iftar to other people, the person who is giving water to other people, the person who is visiting sick people, the person who is being kind to orphans; so Holy Prophet (asws) in reality he is telling us that Allah (swt) shows Mercy to those ones who are doing Hizmet, who are running to do service, in this Day of Ashura. So when we are preparing for Ashura, we should not just plan to come to the Dergah, and to sit, and to make zikr, and to leave, no. We should make intention to run to be in the service of other people, because that is what is lovely to Allah (swt) in the Day of Ashura.
And yes, during the Day of Ashura, this is also the Day that the Grandson of the Holy Prophet (asws), the Son of Hz. Ali el-Murtaza (kw), the brother of Hz. Hasan (ra) was martyred, the day that Hz. Huseyin (ra) and his family were all given Shahadat in Karbala. We are not remembering that event with beating ourselves, or with tearing our clothes, no. We are going to remember that event the way that we were taught by our Sheykh, the way that we are taught by our GrandSheykh, the way that we are taught in this Tarikat, in this ahle sunnat way, we are going to remember it by understanding what happened, by putting ourselves in that situation, by sitting to ask ourselves sincerely that if that event happens today, are we going to be the Huseyni or are we going to be the Yezidi?
As Sahib el-Sayf is saying, teaching us: Understand why it happened and what happened and why this people they stood up knowing until last minute that they are going to be taken away from this world and they didn’t give up. Why? This is what we have to understand. And when we are understanding that, that time we have to sit down, those days, we have to sit down, the memory, remembering them, we have to put ourselves into that situation. Not just say, ‘oh…I love them.’ Huh, love? What is love? It became game now. Everyone is saying, ‘I love you. You don’t love me?’ What is the love understanding now? Hmm?
Mankind lost their direction. We must come back to our own self because there is something very heavy about to happen. Very, very heavy. When Holy Prophet (asws) is saying, “I ask Allah (swt) not to punish my nation as He did with the flood that He had punished the nation of Nuh (as). He promised me that He will not punish my nation through the flood. But He said to me, ‘Ya Muhammad, your nations in the last days, they are going to invent a fire and they are going to punish each other with that fire. That is going to be the flood of fire and billions of people are going to sink into that fire.’” That fire is going to swallow them and it’s almost about to happen, those days. As Nuh (a.s) was screaming and crying for their nation, saying to them, ‘Enter to this ship. This ship is the safety, there is no other safety,’ that’s what we are saying to the mankind. Enter to the ship. Only way for safety is holding on tightly to your faith. And holding on tightly to your faith is not to say, ‘I know.’ It is to live according to that faith. And it’s about time to start getting rid of the wrong habits, the wrong understandings, wrong learning, wrong teachings and wrong brought up.
And to look and to understand in every situation you are entering, to look, to understand, to say, ‘How I will do this if the Prophet is with me or if my Sheykh is with me, how I will live?’ That time, you will find the answer. Otherwise, we may sit now again until Judgment Day and speaking. If we are not taking the words to apply to our lives, then more problem every single day, more heaviness is coming to mankind.
Ya Ayyuhal Mu’minoon! O Believers. We are in these Holy Days and Nights. We should take these times seriously, we should run more for service, we should run more to sit and to think and to become better. That time, insha’Allah, we are walking in the Path of our Sheykh, the Path of Safety.
