All praises are due to Allah, Lord of the Universes. All praises are due to Allah Who is the First, the Last, the Manifest, the Hidden, the One who has Might and Power over all things. All praises are due to Allah who sends Peace and Salutations upon His Most Beloved Messenger, Sayyidina Muhammad (asws).
And may all peace and blessings be upon the Imam of the Messengers, the Seal of the Prophethood, the Lamp of Guidance, the Master of the First and the Last, the Intercessor of the Day of Judgment, Sayyidina Muhammad (asws). And may all peace and blessings be upon his Noble Family and Blessed Companions, especially upon the Four Khulafa-e-Rashideen, Hz. Abu Bakr el-Siddiq, Hz. Umar el-Faruk, Hz. Osman el-Ghani, and Hz. Ali el-Murtaza, and all those who follow them until the Last Day.
O Believers! Ayyuhal Mu’minoon! Welcome to you on this Yawm al-Jummah. Welcome to you on the Last Jummah of the Month of Safar. We are asking our Lord, Allah (swt), to let us pass through the last day of this month clean and pure. And we are asking to be protected from every curse and calamity that is raining down on this world. And we are asking to stay sincere in the Way of our Sheykh, Sahib el-Sayf, until we pass from this life.
O Believers! Tonight at Maghrib time, a new month is going to enter. And understand that all of the universes are making preparations for the month that is about to enter. The inhabitants of the earth, the inhabitants of Paradise, creatures known and unknown, they are preparing to honor and celebrate the month that is coming. And what month is that? If a person who is calling himself a Muslim, if a person who is calling himself a Mu’min, if a person who is calling himself an Ummati of the Prophet (asws) does not know what we are about to enter into, then he should feel very sad for himself. Because we are going to enter into the most joyful, the most blessed, the most holy time in the year. We are going to enter to the Month of the Mawlid of the Holy Prophet (asws), the Month of Rabiul Awwal.
Believers’ hearts should be moving when they know that this month is about to enter. Because this is the Month of the Holy Prophet (asws). This is the Month of the Beloved of Allah. This is the Month of the Helper of the Ummah. There are so many fitnah makers and hypocrites who spend this month screaming that it is Biddat, Kufr, Shirk. They do not send one single Salawat on the Holy Prophet, and instead they make the wird of their sheytan. Because the one who screamed in hatred when Holy Prophet (asws) was born, it was no other then sheytan, because when the Prophet (asws) was born, sheytan started screaming, so they are following his way. Leave them alone. Let them be busy with their sheytan. We will celebrate insha’Allah.
The murids of Sahib el-Sayf will celebrate. The Osmanli Dergahi worldwide will celebrate. We will celebrate as Allah (swt) and His Honored Angels celebrated. We will celebrate as the Sahaba-e-Kiram celebrated. We will celebrate as the Tabieen and the Tabi’Tabieen celebrated. We will celebrate just as the Evliyaullah celebrate. We will celebrate just as every Muslim with the love of the Holy Prophet (asws) has celebrated for 1400 years.
Ibn Batuta, the great traveller, wrote in the 8th Hijri century, describing the days of Mawlid, saying: On the Mawlid al-Nabi, the door of the Kaba is opened by the head of the Banu Shayba, the doorkeepers of the Kaba. And on that Day the Chief Judge distributes food first to the Ahlul Bayt and then to the citizens of Mecca. Each year on the 12th of Rabi’ al-Awwal, after the Maghrib prayer, the Four Head Scholars of the Four Mazhabs and large groups of people including the scholars and noble people of Mecca, the Sheykhs, the Hojas, and their students, the officials, and the Imams, leave the Kaaba and make a procession to the Birthplace of Rasulallah (asws), making Zikr as they walk. The houses on the route are illuminated with numerous lanterns and large candles, and everyone comes to celebrate. They all wear special clothes and they take their children with them. When they reach the Birthplace of Rasulallah (asws), inside they hear a Mawlid recitation about the Birth of Holy Prophet (asws). Insha’Allah, we are making intention to be among the company of Believers who love the Holy Prophet (asws) and have kept this tradition alive.
O Believers! What should this month give us? What should the Birth of the Holy Prophet (asws) mean to us? How do we keep this time Holy? Some are running only to put up lights, some are running only to decorate, some are running to practice only singing the Naats, to book concert halls for Mega Mawlid, to dust off their Turbans and their Jubbas, and to make a show, but nothing is changing inside their hearts. That is fitting into the description of the Ahir Zaman when Holy Prophet (asws) is saying, ‘In the Ahir Zaman you will have beautiful Masjids but the hearts inside they will be ugly.’
Yes, we are in the Ahir Zaman. Holy Prophet (asws) is saying, ‘In the Ahir Zaman, a severe fitnah will descend upon my Ummah from their ruler. A worse fitnah will not have been heard of before, until the whole world is made very tight for them, and until the earth is filled with tyranny and oppression, so that the believer will find no refuge from the oppression. And anyone whose eyes are open even a little bit, he can see that we are in the time of Zulm, in the time of tyranny and cruelty, the time of oppression. The Ummat is under tyranny and oppression. The governments have become Zalim, and the citizens have also become Zalim. The presidents have become Zalim, the street sweeper became Zalim. Inside every house there is Zulm, and inside every land there is Zulm. Every person became selfish, caring only for their ownselves. And Allah (swt) He hates the tyrants. He is saying in the Holy Quran: BismillahirRahmanirRahim. No doubt! the curse of Allah is on the Zalimun, the tyrants. (11:18).
Allah swt is saying, ‘I have forbidden tyranny on Myself.’ Allah is forbidding tyranny on Himself. So do not by tyrant. And yes, because of that tyranny, the Ummat is suffering. Everywhere, in every land. The babies, the women, the innocent ones are being burned, they are being drowned, they are being subjected to every cruelty and oppression because of this tyranny. So in these Ahir Zaman days, how should we spend this Mawlid? Just to wear shiny clothes and to sit in glittering masjids and say nice words? Or new style, just to go back and forth with wahabbis, and to argue why we have to celebrate Mawlid, to say, ‘we are better than those ones because we sit and we sing naats.’ Or is it to sit, and to understand how we came to this position, to ask for tauba and to ask Allah to send that one who is going to make changes in this world.
In Arabic, the word Zulm means darkness. And the Nur, the Light, to take us out from this Zulm, out of this Darkness, is nothing else except the light of the Holy Prophet (asws). Allah (swt) is saying in the Holy Quran, in the Surah Ibrahim: BismillahirRahmanirRahim. Alif Lam Ra. [This is] a Book which We have revealed to you, Ya Muhammad, that you might bring mankind out of darkness into the light by permission of their Lord – to the path of the Exalted in Might, the Praiseworthy (14:1). To escape from this Zulm, from this Darkness, we must run to the Light of the Holy Prophet (asws) and those ones who hold his light in this ahir zaman.
But what is that, running to that Light? He is saying in his Hadith Sherif: None of you believes until he loves me more than he loves his children, his parents, and all people. And Allah (swt) is saying in the Holy Quran: BismillahirRahmanirRahim. Say to them, Ya Muhammad, if you love Allah, then follow me, Allah will love you. (3:31).
We cannot make empty claims about loving the Holy Prophet (asws). That love must have a proof. And in these days of Rabiul Awwal that we are entering into, we must check ourselves to see if that proof is there. Our Sheykh, Sahib el-Sayf Sheykh Abdul Kerim el-Kibrisi el-Rabbani (ks), is teaching us the reality of this Love saying: You claim that you are loving the Prophets and the Evliya. You think loving the Prophets and the Evliya means you’re just going to lie down putting your legs up saying, `I am a good servant’? You have to do work. You have to run after that one. There was a Sahabi who came to the Prophet (asws) saying, `Ya Rasulullah, I’ve started loving you more than anything.’ He said, ‘Prepare yourself. Prepare yourself for a heavy test that’s coming to you now. For difficulties that are going to come to you, prepare yourself.’ It’s going to come. But if you have sincere love to that Prophet (asws), to the Evliyaullah then it’s going to become easier for you. But if you don’t have sincerity, that is the time the burden is going to sit on your neck and you are going to be crushed under it.
O Believers! In this Holy Month, run to check your sincerity. Sincerity is one of the greatest gifts from Allah (swt) to His servants. Holy Prophet (asws) is telling a Hadith Qudsi that Allah (swt) is saying: Ikhlas is a Secret from My Secrets and I place it in the heart of my servant who is My Beloved. Our Grandsheykh, Sheykh Mevlana Muhammad Nazim Adil el-Hakkani (ks) is explaining sincerity saying: Allah Almighty asks of His servants to worship with Ikhlas, sincerity, purity. He asks for pure worship, which means to have a pure heart, a heart that has nothing in it but its Lord. Each of us knows which side of himself is not true, or which of his characteristics is not good. We must strive to have pure hearts. That is ‘Jihad’; to fight with one’s bad characters and change them into good ones. Everything that occupies your heart and keeps you from your Lord makes your heart impure. You must try to keep everything away from your heart, but Allah. We say that the heart is for Allah alone.
Man is created for the love of Allah Almighty. Any time you put your love in this dunya, it will be wasted. But if you put your love with Allah, with the Prophet, with your Sheikh, or with your fellow Mu’mins, you may find that love here and hereafter it is never going to be wasted. Love is the most precious, most valuable, most expensive thing, that the Sons of Adam they have been given.
O Believers! In this month, we should make an intention to reach to sincerity to our Lord, sincerity to our Prophet, sincerity to our Sheykh. If we make that intention, insha’Allah, and if we work toward that, then know that what is waiting for us is better than what is in this world and everything in it.
One time, one of the Ansar was in the presence of Holy Prophet (asws), and Rasulallah saw that this man was very sad. And Holy Prophet (asws) asked him, Why are you so sad? And that Sahabi said, ‘Ya Rasulallah (asws)! You are more beloved to me than myself, my family and children. Sometimes, when I am at home, I remember you, and I cannot wait until I come and look at you. When I contemplate about my death and when you are going to be veiled from this world, I know that you will be with the Prophets when you enter Paradise. I fear that I might not see you when I enter Paradise.’ And this Ansar, his heart was breaking when he was saying this, because he was sincere with what he was saying. But Holy Prophet (asws) stayed silent and he did not give any answer, until Jibril (as) came from the Heavens with this ayat: BismillahirRahmanirRahim. Whoever obeys Allah and the Messenger, they are with those unto whom Allah has shown favour, of the Prophets and the Saints and the Martyrs and the Righteous. The best of company are they! That is the bounty from Allah , and sufficient is Allah as Knower. Sadaqallahul Azim (4:69-70).
O Believers! We must spend our breath of live so that we can be in that company- the company of the Ambiya’, of the Evliya, of the Shuhada, and the Saliheen. And to be in that company in the next life, we must keep that company in this life. We must stay in that Sohbet. Insha’AllahurRahman, in these Holy Days of the Mawlid, we are making intention to our Lord to stay in the Way of our Sheykh with sincerity, so that we can be in his Company this life and next life. Amin.
