Question: If doing business is a sunnah of the Prophet (asws), then why is business always associated with cheating? How we can do a clean business according to the sunnah?
BismillahirRahmanirRahim. For a clean business according to sunnah you have to go according to the Shariat. For the Shariat to be working you have to have the Khilafat. The two, everything is connected.
You try to do business in the system of capitalism definitely it is going to be corrupted because the system of capitalism it is corrupt. You want to do business in the system of communism, oh it’s even worse now. There is business in communism? Of course. But to do business according to the Shariat, that’s the time you can do the sunnat otherwise it is very difficult. You can still do but that time you need to be in close consultation with the one who can direct you. If you try to do it by yourself, it may become to heavy for you. You try to do things following the system blindly, it will take away you faith and it’ll put so much burden on you. We had a conversation some time ago someone was speaking and saying some things about a situation of the ummat now and asking if I have any solutions. I say my Sheykh has a solution, we may make speak but a solution is only a solution when people take it and they put it. Otherwise its only a concept, but we don’t speak from concept we speak from reality. I say this whole system is corrupt, it is wrong, it is dajjalic. You cannot hope to have any solution to anything if the whole system doesn’t fall, and the system of the Divine laws of Allah it is raised. With the Shariat there is going to be protection for everyone. If not there’s nothing that is going to protect you. Only the rich and the powerful they are going to have that authority. The younger ones, smaller ones, weaker ones they are just going to be slaves to the system.
So I say you will not like my answer, and it is true he didn’t like my answer because I’m saying now you cannot separate the problems of this ummat with the absence of the Khilafat. You cannot. So now to do business according to the Islamic way now like this or like that you may try but you have to be in consultation with people who not only they know this world but they know the Akhirat, not only Shariat but they know Tarikat, the have spirituality as well. Because now everyone is going to follow the Shariat according to their own heads too. I know so many people, the muslims they are selling liquor, hmm, whatever it is, restaurant or gas stations, they are selling liquor. They say, ‘well I’m not the who is drinking it, it’s ok.’ So they follow Shariat according to their own head. But this is something that is strictly forbidden by the Prophet (asws). They are saying those who trade, those who buy, those who carry, those who consume in the liquor, everything is forbidden. Liquor the way that liquor is being described. ‘Ahh, whats wrong? It’s only one glass of wine one bottle of beer.’ This is also the trick and the trap of capitalism. The liquor is not one glass of wine or one bottle of beer. Liquor is alcoholism and alcoholism can cripple generations and nations, and alcoholism is just a gateway to other drugs that is forbidden that will make this whole world to become slaves. And Islam took it out from the roots to say stop this. The only way is to take out from the roots. If you are going to cut it here and there, it is going to grow. But so many people they have gas stations, this and that, they sell liquor. They say, ‘ahhh, yani its ok.’ Say it’s ok for you, later it’s not going to be ok. Then there are some who is saying, ‘well I don’t sell liquor to the muslims. I sell liquor to the non muslims.’ Mashallah. So with this mentality you are saying you are separating now the ummat? You are saying I can cause harm to the non muslims but the muslims I cannot cause a harm. This is a very wrong idea, a very wrong understanding. This is not in Islam. This is other ones, other nations they have this, ‘well just because I sell him the drugs he’s stupid enough to eat it. Why am I responsible?’ They are saying, ‘I’m not responsible. If he’s stupid enough to to kill himself with it, I’m not responsible cause I didn’t tell him to kill himself.’ This is wrong. This is immoral. You can try to use your Shariat any which way that you want, this is wrong.
So now to do business properly you have to have some people with some wisdom otherwise it is going to be very difficult. How many people are also following when they are doing business to keep track and to say I have to give zakat? Hmm. Very few and even with the zakat they are going to play around with that zakat too. So not too much blessings. But doing business in the time of the Prophet (asws) that was completely different, doing business in the time of the Khilafat that was completely different there was a whole system of Islamic economy and you know what the system of Islamic economy or Islamic way of doing a business doesn’t make anyone to be poor. It makes everyone to be rich. This capitalism makes everyone to be poor. It just makes a handful to be very, very, very, very, very rich so this is wrong. May Allah bring down all the wrong systems insya’Allah. May we try our best to be the right ones, Ameen. May Allah forgive us.
