All praises are due to Allah, Lord of the Universes. All praises are due to Allah who is the First, the Last, the Manifest, the Hidden, the One who has Might and Power over all things. All praises are due to Allah Who sent His Habib, Sayyidina Muhammad (asws), as the Mercy to the Universes.
And may all peace and blessings be upon the Sultan of Creation, the Imam of the Messengers, the Seal of the Prophethood, the Master of the First and the Last, the Grandfather of Hasan and Huseyin, Sayyidina Muhammad (asws), and upon his noble family and blessed companions, especially upon the Four Khulafa-e-Rashideen, Hz. Abu Bakr el-Siddiq, Hz. Umar el-Faruq, Hz. Osman el-Ghani, and Hz. Ali el-Murtaza, and all those who follow them until the Last Day.
Ya Ayyuhal Mu’minoon! O Believers! Welcome to you on this Day of Jummah, the second Jummah of the month of Jumadiul Awwal. Jummah is a day to be in Jamaat and to be awake. Jummah is an Eid for the believers. Hujjatul Islam Imam al-Ghazali (ks) is saying: Only that believer is blessed with the blessings and benefits of Jummah, who looks forward to it anxiously and eagerly; and shame on the heedless one who is not interested in it and who does not even know in the morning which day has entered.
Ya Ayyuhal Mu’minoon! Allah (swt) is saying in the Holy Quran: BismillahirRahmanirRahim. Hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided. Remember the favor of Allah upon you, when you were enemies and He brought your hearts together and you became brothers by His favor. You were on the edge of a pit of the Fire and He saved you from it. Thus does Allah make clear to you His verses that you may be guided. (3:103). SadaqallahulAdzim.
And Holy Prophet (asws) is saying in his Hadith Sherif: ‘The example of the believers in their affection, mercy, and compassion for each other is that of a body. When any limb aches, the whole body reacts with sleeplessness and fever’ .And in another Hadith he is saying (asws), ‘The one who relieves the hardship of a believer in this world, Allah will relieve his hardship on the Day of Judgment. He who makes easy what is difficult, Allah will make it easy for him in the world and the Hereafter. He who conceals the faults of a Muslim, Allah will conceal his faults in the world and in the Hereafter, because Allah helps the servant as long as he helps his brother.’
We are claiming we are believers. We must be brothers to each other. We must have brotherhood amongst each other. That is the foundation that Islam is built upon. Look at the life of Holy Prophet (asws) and his companions. In the time of jahiliyya, everyone was divided. Everyone was living their own selfish, egoistic life. Everyone was looking at how to take advantage of other people, how to make themselves and their families stronger. But then Holy Prophet (asws) came as a light in that guidance, and he took people from every family, from every clan, from every tribe, from every nation, from every part of the world and he made them brothers. It did not matter their social standing, or their economic standing, or their racial standing. The only thing that mattered was their devotion to Allah and His Prophet. And as long as they were united on that, those bonds of brotherhood were the most important thing.
And that tradition continued and was revived in the time of the Holy Ottoman Empire. The Ottoman Sultans, they also united all tribes, all nations and all races. And as long as the people under the Empire agreed to be servants of Allah swt, servants of the Messenger (asws), then they entered into that family of the Ummat-i-Muhammed (asws), and they kept those bonds of brotherhood. And that is why in the time of the Ottomans, they felt the pain for every Muslim in the world. Whether a Muslim was suffering from Africa to India to Indonesia, the Ottoman Sultans were sending their aid to those people, because they felt the pain for the Ummat. They were even sending the help to the non-Muslims, like Sultan Abdul Majid the First who sent help to the Irish during their famine, because they too are part of the Ummat-i-Muhammed.
But today, the Muslims have lost it. Not just they have lost it, they don’t care about anymore. Muslims are suffering, they are dying, they are being tortured around the world, but the so-called 21st century believers cannot stop and think about them for even one moment. They cannot stop to shed even one tear for them. They cannot stop to read even one Fatiha for them. And instead, we see them adding to the suffering. In Syria, we see that those people who are in safety are sending photographs of their food, what they are going to have for dinner, to those people who are suffering, to those people who are starving. In Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries, we see that people are having Christmas and New Years celebrations, and birthday parties for themselves, for their kings, spending millions of dollars, while refugees are watching the fireworks from broken tents at their borders. Meanwhile, the young Muslims are being busy trying to be scholars, to issue fatwas to each other, learning about Islam with their ego, turning around and starting to question and criticize and insult 1400 years of Islamic tradition. Islamic tradition that is upheld by the Holy Prophet (asws) and the Tabi’in, and the AwliyaAllah, they turn around and they start questioning the basic practices of edep that belongs to the Holy Prophet (asws). This is because, they are struggling to learn ilm before manners.
When you study ilm, knowledge, before manners, you will be like sheytan. When you have manners before ilm, that’s the time you will be like the children of Adam. Because Adam (as), when he came to live, the first thing he said was Alhamdulillah. He knew his manners to his Lord. He did not question, he did not ask. But this is what is happening, mostly, to so called first world country Muslims. They are learning knowledge without any manners and they think that they are the top of the world, that everyone else is wrong and they are right, because only yesterday they started to take Arabic classes and learn how to read the Quran in the language of the Arab. This is what happened to believers. This was all described by Hz. Abdullah ibn Umar (ra) when he said that Muslims are no longer caring for each other because they are just being selfish, egoistic ones. He said, ‘There was a time when we held our brothers dearer to us than gold or silver. But today, gold and silver are dearer to the Muslims than their own brothers.’
O Believers! O people living in Jamaat! We should not look at the situation that is happening in the rest of the world and say that we are separate from it. We must look at our own mistakes and shortcomings, and we must correct them. The Holy Prophet (asws) is saying, ‘Do not hate each other, do not envy each other, do not turn away from each other. Rather, be servants of Allah as brothers. But what about those who don’t want to be servants? What about those who don’t want to be brothers? Still, we don’t hate. Still, we don’t envy and we don’t turn them away. But it has come to a time, in this time as it was in the first Jahilliyah, where we say, ‘to you your religion and to me, mine.’ He is continuing, ‘It is not lawful for a Muslim to abandon his brother for more than three days.’ And the Prophet (asws) is also saying, ‘Beware of suspicion, for suspicion is the most false of speech. Do not seek out faults, do not spy on each other, do not contend with each other, do not envy each other, do not hate each other, and do turn away from each other. Rather, be servants of Allah as brothers.’ Are we doing any of the things that the Holy Prophet (asws) is warning us against? Because these actions that he is describing, they are seeds of poison, and if they are sown in the community, then they give fruit to the cruelty and the zulm that destroy nations.
We cannot let those seeds be planted in this community. Because Seyh Efendi’s work and mission is to rebuild the community of the Holy Prophet (asws), to rebuild the Ottoman Nation, a nation that is founded upon brotherhood. As Seyh Efendi is saying: We are trying to build our own community. We are trying to bring all these orders that are given to us through Holy Prophet (asws). My duty is to bring the community together, to watch, to make you understand what is right and what is wrong and to work on people. Your duty is to accept what I say, “This is right and this is wrong.” That way we can build. Otherwise, we are not going to be able to build and in the Judgment Day you are going to be responsible. Not only me. You will be responsible. Every individual will be responsible. You will be accounted for whether you did what is for you or not. Everyone knows what is for them to do and everyone knows what is their duty in this world. This community looks very small but who knows maybe it is one of the biggest works. For me it is one of the biggest works. It doesn’t matter if it’s small. We are not trying to change the world. We are trying to build something. And whoever helps in that, whoever spends on the way, they will be blessed. Whoever tries to put barricades knowingly or without knowing, they will be cursed.
O Believers! Let us renew our intention to be building this community. We should renew our intention to be helping Seyh Efendi in his work. And we are asking our Lord, Allah (swt), to save us from being those people who are putting any type of barricade into this work, whether it is ourselves of others, knowing or without knowing. Amin.
