Question: How do I handle negative and constantly criticizing persons around me? I feel heavily stressed being around such people and fear of becoming like them.
BismillahirRahmanirRahim. Run away from them. Don’t be around them, why you have to be around them? ‘Oh I’m working with them.’ You are working next to them 24 hours? Run away from them. ‘Yes I’m working with them 24 hours.’ Then don’t open your heart, you can open your head, you can open your eyes, you can open your ears but don’t open your heart. Your heart has to be running away from them. It has to go through one ear and go out through the other. If you cannot escape from them physically, escape from them with your spirit, with your heart.
Run away from negative people then run towards positive people. Run towards the jama’at that is only going to talk and to be busy about good things, about pleasing Allah and his Prophet (asws), and about stepping on our ego and crushing our ego. Run towards those kinds. You cannot just say I run away from badness. You have to run to goodness. If you run away from badness and you are not running to good, you don’t have any power, the bad is going to follow you anywhere that you go. Then that time you will not have any fear of becoming like them because you are not opening the heart to them, you are opening the heart to the believers. Maybe it is important where you are right now to be around negative people. It is going teach you some things. It is going to make you to understand yourself and the world and them. Just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean that it is bad for you. In the old days the medicines are all very nasty tasting, very bitter. The medicines is very nasty that when you drink ugh, you promise yourself you’ll never get sick again because you don’t like to drink that medicine. You don’t like the treatment. But nowadays they want every one to be sick, that’s why the medicines they look like candy and taste like candy. People want to be sick just so that they can eat those medicines. If you are not even sick you are going to run to east those medicines to get a high. So this is one of the signs of the ahir zaman. Black is white and white is black.
So Insha’Allah run towards the good ones and understand there is something there for you to learn through the things you don’t like. Look to the hikmah, look to the hikmah, look to the wisdom behind that, then that time you are going to learn from it.
