Question: Is Physical beauty related to spirituality? Is there any hikmah in one losing their beauty or should we be worried?
What we can say. I don’t like to quote from different people saying things, but let’s just say for everyone to understand, ‘Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.’ Beauty is according to who sees. This should be enough.
Who do you want to look beautiful to? To the world? Oh, then that time you must buy every cream, you must put every paint, you must pull everything to look beautiful to the world. ‘I want to look beautiful to Allah.’ That time you are going to always wake up for Tahajjud. When the Angelic light they come down, and it’s entering everywhere, where everyone is sleeping, you are awake, remembering and welcoming your Lord, and there is a wisdom also in this night being very short, like this or like that, we enter into the time of Tahajjud. If we keep talking until twelve, one o’clock, it is already the time of Tahajjud. If you want to look beautiful to Allah, to the Prophet (asws), to the Evliyaullah, to the Angels, they don’t even look at your outward form. They don’t even care. Because they look to the light. But you say, ‘I want to look beautiful to the world, and I want to look beautiful to Allah.’ That is call hypocrisy. You want me to say one more? When there is a duality, then there is no Tauhid. You understand?
Who do you want to look beautiful to? Make up your mind, then work towards that. You want to look beautiful to yourself, huh, that is the worse. Then that is worshipping to yourself. In reality, nobody ever says, I just want to look beautiful to myself. Because every beauty that you make is for something outside. It’s not for you, it’s for someone outside. Because the eye, cannot see itself. You cannot see yourself. The men and the women’s identity, it is in your face. You cannot see your face without something that is outside. Whether it is a mirror or your best friend, or your mother, or your wife, or your husband, or this world, there is something outside that you need, or a Holy one, or Allah is outside. That, you will use as a reflection. If you have the Holy one out there, then you are going to see your reflection. When you have the dunya there to reflect you, then you are just going to be ahle dunya. When you use sheytan there as a mirror, and the ego there, then you are just ahle nafs, ahle sheytan. When you use Bollywood there, then you are ahle Bollywood. When you use Hollywood, you are ahle Hollywood. That’s all. And you know, everything is fake. So many of these movie stars, if they take out all their paint and they unloosen all their plastic everything, oof, you don’t even want to look at them. It’s true. And once a man also starts fixing himself, or a woman, like that, the inner light is gone. It’s gone. Finish. That’s why it is forbidden. Now you become very very very concern about your skin. You are not concern about what is behind that. You think you can trick. Eh, so many they are not even biodegradable. So much plastic they have in their faces. They are not organic. That’s a big problem. Because if the earth cannot clean you, then the fire will have to clean you. You understand?
May we always be beautiful in the eyes of those who love Allah. May we work for that beauty. How is that beauty going to come out? Through sincerity, first. When sincerely you say, ‘I am like this,’ or ‘ I am like that,’ when you are sincere, then that idol starts breaking. You know that you are a stubborn one but you are sincere, and you say, ‘I am like this,’ then that idol breaks, the face starts shining. Then from that sincerity, it will go on and on and on, you start fixing yourself, more that light is going to shine. That light is not going to shine if you don’t fix yourself. That diamond that you pick out from the earth, raw, it looks like dirty pieces of glass. It does not look like a diamond. How does a diamond start looking like a diamond, that you can put it on top of your head, that people are doing? It’s when that diamond is starting to be polished and to be cut. You think that diamond is not going to complain? It’s going to say, ‘why are you cutting me? This hurts. This is wrong. Who you think you are da..da..da, da..da..da…?’ but it’s getting cut and cut and cut. And as many cuts in the hands of the Master, it’s a very delicate, very delicate thing, because one wrong movement, the value can drop. But he knows how to cut, to let the fire from inside of the diamond to shine through.
We are not diamonds. We are clay. But diamond is coming out from that clay too. May Allah forgive me and bless you. This much is enough. WaminAllahu Taufiq, Bihurmatil Habib, Bihurmatil Fatiha. SelamAleykum warahmatullahi wabarakatu.
