All praises are due to Allah, Lord of the Universes. All praises are due to Allah Who is the First, the Last, the Manifest, the Hidden, the One who has Might and Power over all things. All praises are due to Allah Who chose His Habib, Sayyidina Muhammad (asws), as the Mercy to the Universes.
And may all peace and blessings be upon the Imam of the Messengers, the Leader of the Prophets, the Sultan of Creation, the Light of Guidance, the Master of the Arabs and the Ajam, Sayyidina Muhammad (asws), and upon his noble family and blessed companions, especially upon the Khulafa-e-Rashideen, Hz. Abu Bakr el-Siddiq, Hz. Umar el-Faruq, Hz. Osman el-Ghani, and Hz. Ali el-Murtaza, and all those who follow them until the Last Day.
Ya Ayyuhal Mu’minoon! O Believers! Welcome to you in this Second Jummah of the Holy Month of Ramazan. Welcome to you as we have passed through the first third of the Month, the Days of Rahmet, and we have entered into the second third of the Month, the Days of Forgiveness. O Believers! We should not be wasting our time in Ramazan. Holy Prophet (asws) was once climbing the steps of the Mimbar and Jibril (as) approached him and made dua, saying: Destruction to him who found the blessed month of Ramazan and let it pass by without gaining forgiveness. And Holy Prophet (asws) said Amin. O Believers! We should not be from those that are getting the curse of Rasulallah (asws) and Jibril in the Month of Ramazan. We should not be from those who are not asking for fogiveness.
O Believers! Our Master Sheykh Abdul Kadir el-Gilani (ks) is giving us a warning, saying: There are among you those who are Muslims outwardly but like idol-worshippers inwardly. Destruction upon you! Renew your Islam, your repentance, your apology and your sincerity in order that your Master Allah (‘Azza wa Jall) will accept you and forgive your past sins. O You, who are fasting, thank your Lord (Allah Azza wa Jall) for preparing you for fasting and allowing you to keep it! When one of you fasts, let his ears, his eyes, his hands, his legs, his limbs and organs and his heart all fast as well. When you fast, give up lying, giving false witness, backbiting, defaming people and stealing their properties. In reality, you fast in order to purify yourselves of your sins and keep away from them, so what benefit could you derive from your fasting if you commit these sins yet again?
O Believers! This is the Month of Ramazan. And the Month of Ramazan must make the believers to change. What does it mean to change ourselves? It’s not just empty words saying, “I want to get better,” “I want to change,” “I want to improve myself,” without understanding the reality of those words. We must be thinking deeply and seriously, which is an order by Allah swt to think, about what it means to change. What is the change that our Lord, Allah (swt) wants to see from the believers? And any answer we want about what our Lord wants from us, that answer is contained from His Messenger, Sayyidina Muhammad (asws). The Holy Prophet (asws) is saying, ‘Whoever amongst you sees an evil, he must change it with his hand; if he is unable to do so, then with his tongue; and if he is unable to do so, then with his heart; but that is the weakest form of Faith.’ And in the Holy Quran, Allah (swt) is saying to us: You are the best community that has been raised up for mankind. You enjoin what is good and forbid what is evil; and you believe in Allah. (3:110). Sadaqallahul Adzim.
So what is Ramazan except enjoining what is good and forbidding what is evil upon our own egos? If we are really keeping Ramazan, then we are keeping away from every forbidden things. If we are following the advice Ghaws al-Azam is giving, we are forbidding ourselves from the sins of our ears, of our eyes, of our tongues, of our limbs, of our hearts. And if we are keeping Ramazan according to the Way of Rasulallah (asws), then we are enjoining what is good upon our selves. We are running to be in Jemaat. We are running to be in the Tarawih prayers. We are running to feed other people. We are running to increase our Remembrance and Awareness of Allah (swt). We are running to turn the direction of our life to the Sirat al-Mustaqim.
In reality, this enjoining the good and forbidding the evil, it is a means for the Believer to establish the Truth inside of himself, and to get rid of the Batil from inside of himself. That is the reality of Ramazan. That is the Ramazan that makes a man to gain the forgiveness of his Lord, to get rid of the idol worship that is in his heart. That is the Ramazan that keeps a man far from the curse of Rasulallah (asws) and Jibril (as).
But today’s Muslims are like dead people during Ramazan. They are very alive when it comes to enjoying and eating and drinking and celebrating, but their hearts have become dead. Our hearts have become dead. This is not according to a condition that we have invented. This is according to the criteria of the Friends of Allah. Imam al-Ghazali is saying in his great book, Ihya Uloom el-Din, that someone asked one of the Evliyaullah, who are the living dead? That Evliya’s answer was: The ones who do not forbid the unlawful by his hand nor by their tongues, nor by their hearts. The ones who do not forbid the unlawful by his hand nor by their tongues, nor by their hearts, those are the living dead. And Hz. Ali el-Murtaza (kw) said: If your heart does not believe and enjoin good and does not forbid the unlawful, then it is turned upside down.
What has happened to the Muslim in the 21st century? We have become the living dead; why? Because the Ummat has left enjoining good and forbidding evil. The ummat has forgotten what is good and they have forgotten what is evil. Their direction of what is good and their direction of what is evil is according to western secularism. It’s according to the ego an it’s according to sheytan and the dunya. Rulers do not enjoin good and forbid evil with their hands. The scholars and the people of influence do not enjoin good and forbid evil with their tongues. So the normal people, how can they enjoin good and forbid what is evil in their hearts? What are they doing instead?
They are accepting evil, and we are rejecting good. In reality, we have accepted Batil and we have rejected Hakk. How did this happen? Because the enemies of Islam, inside and outside, they have injected a poison into the Ummat that has infected the Muslims. And that poison is being spread in the Ummat-i-Muhammad through the tongues of those who call themselves scholars. And that poison is making people believe that there is no difference between Hakk and Batil. It is making people believe that Hakk, that Truth is subjective. That the Truth can and must change over time. That morals can and must change over time. It is fooling the people into believing that because we live in a liberal, secular, democratic society, where the norms and the morals of the society do not match Islam, that we must make Islam match the society. And it is making people say, well, just because something was haram in the time of the Prophet (asws), doesn’t mean that it is evil. Just because people are doing something that is condemned by Allah and His Prophet, that doesn’t mean that we should judge them. Just because Allah (swt) has given us a way to live, that doesn’t mean that we have to apply that way of living to our life in the 21st century. This thinking is against to Allah and His Prophet. Because Allah (swt) is saying in the Holy Quran: BismillahirRahmanirRahim. This is the Way (Sunnat) of Allah with those who passed away before, and you will not find any change in the Sunnat of Allah. (33:62). Sadaqallahul Adzim.
The Way of Allah (swt) has not changed, it and will not change. The Truth has not changed, and it will not change. Allah (swt) has taken the name of Al-Hakk for Himself. And the Way of Hakk has not changed.
So what happens when the Muslims abandon Hakk? What happens when the Muslims abandon enjoining good and forbidding evil, even inside their own hearts? Disaster is what we see. Holy Prophet (asws) is saying, ‘You should enjoin good and forbid evil or Allah will provoke against you a tyrannical ruler who will not respect your elderly nor would he have mercy to your young, the best of you will pray against him, but their prayer will not be accepted, and you will seek help but you will not get it, and you will seek forgiveness but will not be forgiven.’ Isn’t this what happened to the Ummat-i-Muhammad? Tyrants that have never been seen in history are given power. The young and the old, the women and the children, their blood is being spilled without any value.
We must know our history. And we must know that the state of the Ummat was not always like this. As long as we were living up to the title that Allah swt has given us in the Quran of the Best Nation raised for mankind, as long as the Ummat was enjoining good and forbidding evil, from the individuals, to the people of influence, to the scholars, to the rulers, the Mercy of Allah was on this Ummat. The Heybet appearance was on this Ummat. The Help of Allah was on this Ummat. When the 124,000 Sahabis transformed themselves from being a people who worshipped idols and buried their daughters to becoming the Companions of the Holy Prophet (asws), they shook the whole world. They kicked darkness away from the whole world. Light entered into this whole world. When the normal citizens of the Ottoman Empire were all following Sheykhs and respecting the Friends of Allah, and keeping obedience to their Sultan, the Khilafat was keeping the World in its balance. But as soon as we left that way, as soon as we left Hakk, as soon as we opened the door to Batil, because we have been fooled, we fell into this disgraceful condition.
O Believers! In this Holy time of Ramazan, we must make the intention to establish Hakk upon ourselves. Once we do that, then we will become the building blocks upon which the foundation of Islam can be built again. Because this is not the time that we can make a change of the whole society. This is not the time for revolutions or violence or fighting. This is the time for fixing ourselves. This is the time for fixing our intentions. This is the time for fixing our beliefs and our iman. And through that fixing ourselves, we will be doing the work of Emri bil Maruf wa Nahi anil Munkar. Our Sheykh, Sahib el-Sayf Sheykh Abdul Kerim el-Kibrisi el-Rabbani, is explaining to us how we must live in this Ahir Zaman time, saying: You must apply Islam to your life, to your daily life, to your house life, morning to evening, to work, to outside, to friendship and to everywhere you must apply it. Otherwise, don’t expect changes. You must make the changes. You must make the changes to yourself. If you are not making it then no magic is going to happen to you. Then waiting for Mahdi (as) or waiting for anything else will be just words. That means that you are not really believing in Mahdi (as) because the biggest reason of Mahdi’s (as) coming back is to remove Muslims, the people who have faith, away from that low station that they put themselves, to carry Islam back up, to stand up again. That’s why he is coming.
Ya Ayyuhal Mu’minoon! This is Ramazan. This is the month of burning, of scorching. We have to scorch our egos from the evil inside of ourselves. We have to scorch our egos from the poison that sheytan has injected into our thinking. We cannot give an inch to Batil. We cannot be weak with standing for the Truth. In this darkest of times, we must stand up for the Hakk. We should not lose your hope in Allah. Because He is saying: BismillahirRahmanirRahim. Hakk has come and batil has perished; verily, batil’s nature is to be perishing. In this Ramazan, may we be counted as the Defenders of the Hakk, so that we may be counted as being on the Side of Hakk. Amin.
