Question: I know we should be happy during Eid but I always feel a sorry energy. Is this from my ego?
BismillahirRahmanirRahim. You must understand why you feel a sorry energy. Why you feel a sorry energy? If it’s just because of emotion, just feeling like this you have no real reason, then it is coming from your Ego.
Yes in Holy days like this we should be happy and we should celebrate but there are also reasons that we should be sad, that we should be very sad. I feel very happy and I can give you many reasons, I also feel very sad and I can give you many reasons. But if you don’t know why you are feeling happy and you don’t know why you are feeling sad that time the Ego can trick you very easily. That you just want to feel depressed because it’s fashionable or it feels good to be depressed, American style during Holy days, holidays, the suicide rates go up highest during the Holy days, Christmas, da..da..da..than any other days. Not according to Islamic way of celebrating because once you put the Dunya too much into the celebration darkness will reach your heart, you will feel sorry because you put too much Dunya, whatever celebration that you are.
If you are celebrating something and you are not putting too much Dunya in there, that you are helping others, you are serving others, it’s not just about you buying new clothes, eating good food. Darkness will enter into your heart, you will feel depressed, you will feel what is the meaning of this? But especially for example the Eid, it is also a celebration but it is also very solemn that you go and you sacrifice an animal and to see an animal being sacrificed is a very solemn occasion. To know that we are causing a death to keep our life going. Once you start doing that you cannot put too much Dunya into it. What are they going to do? what are they going to do? They will think of something, believe me. That’s why they are trying to make Eid and Bayrams especially in the west to be commercial too. To have Eid sales and this and that to just go out and to buy things and to have more debt for the credit cards and everything, trying to make it just like Christmas. But especially for Eid-ul Adha for Qurban they cannot do that too much. All they can do is maybe to take away the blessing of witnessing of performing a Qurban. Which they are trying very hard to do, which they are doing.
So Insha’Allah Rahman you must understand yourself. Don’t just feel things. Sit down and analyze and try to understand where is this coming from. Be sincere with yourself. Put yourself in a room, it’s just between you and Allah, don’t put anyone in between. Try to understand, why am I feeling sorry? You’ll come, you will understand and you will come up with an answer to it. Otherwise if you don’t know why, sheytan will just lead you, your ego will just take over. Especially Eid-ul Adha, yes we are felling very sad of the state of affairs of the Muslims in this world, we are feeling very sad that we are missing our Sultan, that we are missing our Sheykh Effendi. We are feeling very sad that we have to wait for one more year until Hz Mehdi comes that he has not made the Takbir yet. We are feeling very sad from all these things but we’re happy that Allah is still giving us life to remember Him. We are feeling grateful that we still have Islam and we are able to practice. We are feeling grateful for everything that we have in this world physically and spiritually that He has not put us in a worse position that He has put millions in a worse position. We are feeling very happy that we are able to continue the tradition of 4,000 years that even the Jews they have left their tradition.
So count whichever of the favors of your Lord can you deny? Count the favors. If you are prone to being depressed or being sad, sit down. This thing now that you are doing it’ll go against your ego. Now this is the struggle, this is the jihad-al Akbar. Sit down and think and calculate, list down all the favors that your Lord have given you. Go against that feeling of depression, of sadness. Fight against it, then that time the doors of Rahmat will open. Salaam Alaikum Wa Rahmatullah Wa Barakatu.
