If a person has anger, jealousy, hatred, and does not remember his Lord, will he reach the mercy of Allah?

Question: If a person has some anger,  jealousy, hatred, sadness and does not remember his Lord, will they ever reach the mercy of Allah? Will they always be rejected from Divine Presence?

We all have some of those qualities, always. But you are asking, but the person is not remembering his Lord. Will they reach to the mercy of Allah? Mercy of Allah, it is always being sent down. Allah swt, he is not giving conditions from the external form, what you are, to be admitted into Divine Presence. The mercy of Allah swt is being sent to everything and everyone without any differentiation, without saying, ‘I only give the mercy to those who worship Me, I’m not going to give the mercy to those who don’t worship Me.’

It is being sent. But if a person has these qualities, the person who is seeking his Lord, he will use these qualities as a reason to find his Lord, too, to remind himself of his Lord. But if a man, if a person has these qualities, like anger and jealousy, someway, somehow, something is going to happen. You don’t want to remember your Lord? You will remember your Lord. Because everything that Allah swt, in reality, has created, if you are looking at it and taking it, you are going to remember your Lord.

I’ll give you a simple example. All these qualities, of anger and jealousy and sadness, if taken to a sheytanic extreme, what’s it going to make you to do? What? Two things. Either one, or the other, or both. Either you’re going to kill someone, or you’re going to kill yourself. Correct? The most extreme point.

Anger. You’re so angry at something, and so many people, little things, they get so angry. ‘Aargh… I want to kill you.’ They already say it. Either outward it’s going to be showing, or you’re going to pull it inside, inwards, and the point is destruction, taking your life or taking others’ life.

Let’s say you do that. You take someone else’s life. How can a person who takes someone else’s life not remember his Lord? He remembers, but he rejects. He is blocking. How can a person who is so angry at himself and so depressed not remember his Lord? One of the stages he’s going to go through is that he’s going to say, ‘why me? What is the meaning of this? Why am I the one who is going through this?’ He’s going to question, which I said earlier, if you are not using these things, these qualities to ask a question and get an answer from it, if you are not using it, these qualities, to ask a question and to get an answer, you are lost.

But all these qualities they are there, again, for man to come closer to himself and to his Lord. For those who are asking, for those who are searching, and Allah swt, His mercy, it is always reaching, maybe through the hand of another person, maybe through the smile of another person, maybe through even your own pain, for you to experience and then to look at another’s pain and for you to come to an understanding. There is a saying of the Holy Prophet (asws), saying, ‘the sign that Allah does not love that person is when you see he does not even have a toothache.’

For a believer, even if his finger is pricked by a thorn, he’s going to understand why. InsyaAllah. May we always be in the shade and the shadow of the Mercy of Allah. Selam Aleykum.
