They lost that tradition of calling the children ‘ghulam (servant).’ They said, ‘this is your ghulam only to Allah.’ How you can be ghulam to Allah if you are not ghulam to Rasul. You cannot be. One time I went somewhere and I said, ‘we are trying to be servant to the Prophet,’ this man got very upset with me. He said, ‘No! Servant is only to Allah.’ I said, you serve your family, you serve this country, you serve everything and you are not going to call yourself servant to the Prophet? What kind of servant you are going to be then? Astaghfirullah. Alhamdulillah. Shukur.
The idea now it is to love those that Allah loves. You have to love those whom Allah loves. And not just to have the name but to have to base your life on that. It is easy to memorise the Quran. It is easy to memorise, Alhamdulillah. The Quran e-Kerim it is the only Book in this whole world ever in history that you have people memorise the whole Book. Have you ever seen a hafiz of Taurat? Or hafiz of Bible? No. Hafiz of the Quran, so many. All nations, not to say only the Arabs, because it is in that language, that they are the Hafiz, but all nations from European to Chinese to Africans, to everyone, they can become a hafiz. It is easy. That is another big miracle of Islam, miracle of the Holy Prophet (asws). If we say miracle of the Prophet, they are going to say, ‘Why? That is Allah.’ But Allah swt did not speak the Quran from the sky. The Quran came from the lips of the Holy Prophet (asws). The Prophet (asws) is the one who is giving, protecting, and teaching us Quran e-Kerim. But it is easy to memorise that. But it is not easy to be a hafiz of the Quran. Hafiz is not just memorizing, hafiz means what? Ya Hafiz – Protector. To protect the Quran. ‘No, I can protect the Quran in my cellphone. I can protect the Quran by printing it.’ No.
When they asked Hz Aisyah (ra) to describe the Holy Prophet (asws), she said, ‘he is the walking Quran.’ And there are those if you are imitating the Prophet (asws), you have to have the sifat, you have to have the qualities of that Prophet. Don’t say you are going to have the qualities of the Quran. You are not a Prophet. So understanding protocol and that everything now is given to that Holy Prophet (asws) and he may give it through different hands. He may give it through his ahle Bayt. He may give it through those ones who are his ahle bayt not by blood but by spirit. There’s a different kind of ahle bayt too. He may give through the hands of those ones that they have sacrificed their way in his way and they have become part of his family. Because isn’t the ayat saying, ‘only the believers they are brothers.’ Meaning believers they are part of each other’s family. We are trying to find that reality.
We are here, so many different races, different ages, different experience, different life skills, different knowledge. But we are united. It is easy to say, ‘unite under La ilaha ilallah.’ It is very easy to say that, but how you understand La ilaha ilallah is what is going to unite. Some they only understand La ilaha ilallah but they don’t accept Muhammadur Rasulullah. Some they say ‘La ilaha ilallah,’ but the say Allah is One of many. Some they say ‘La ilaha illallah,’ but they hate the Prophet. Some they say ‘La ilaha illallah,’ they say ‘Muhammadur Rasulullah,’ but to follow that, we love some and we hate some that the Prophet left. Some saying, ‘we only love the ahle Bayt, we love some Sahabis but we hate the rest of the Sahabis.’ That is not accepted too.
So on a day like this, for us to think a little bit, what is the Shahadat that we are holding? Have we become syahid to have that Shahadat? What have we witnessed? What have we witnessed? We are saying, ‘Ashaduala ilaha illallah Wa ashaduana Muhammadu abduhu wa rasuluhu,’ have we witnessed Allah? Have we witnessed the Prophet (asws)? No. Now, it is obligation for those who are looking, not just to say the Shahadat but to fulfill the reality of the Shahadat, to witness, now they are going to run to find the inheritors of the Prophet, the waris ul-anbiya. Those ones who have the secrets of the zahir and the batin knowledges in this way, they are going to run to find them. And you are going to say, ‘teach me how to bear witness to my Lord.’ This is Tasawwuf. This is Tarikat. You cannot do it by yourself. You cannot witness anything by yourself. You cannot witness yourself by yourself. Impossible. I can see everyone here very clearly. I can see your faces, I can see your identities, but I cannot see myself. How am I going to see myself? I need to have a mirror. Why is it important to see myself? If I don’t see myself, I will not be able to see Allah. I don’t mean with this eyes.
Holy Prophet (asws) is saying, ‘the one who doesn’t know himself, he will not know his Lord.’ So Tarikat it is for you to know yourself. But what is yourself? Are you interested in powers? visions? dreams? You see, in this way we are not even looking at our spirit. The spirit is there. This is not mysticism, this is spirituality. Completely different. Mysticism, you are going to be busy with the mystical, the worlds and the energies that is different from the ones that is locked by this five senses, to know that there is another life and there is another existence beyond that. Spirituality is looking at what chokes the spirit, what stops the spirit from returning to Allah and to remove that which stops the spirit. This is spirituality.
This is why we are concentrating on the ego. You may not believe in ego, you may not believe in sacrifice, but at least all Muslims are united once a year, you have to make that sacrifice. No one can say whatever we spoke it is out of Islam. Alhamdulillah. InsyaAllah. May Allah forgive us and accept us. Fatiha.
