How can I be patient?

Question: How can I be patient?

Try not to be patient and see where that leads you. Be impatient. Be ten times more impatient, if you like it, if it works out for you, stay impatient. If it doesn’t work out, then you’re going to sit, then you will know that sitting and suffering a little bit is better than doing something and suffering a whole lot more. Sit with the people of patience. That’s why Allah swt is saying ‘be with the Saliheen.’ It is a command. He is not putting that stress and that responsibility on us, saying, ‘be Saliheen,’ He did not say, ‘be Saliheen.’ He says, ‘be with the Saliheen,’ so you will learn. You will learn you look and you will learn. Nobody ever learns anything in this world without being with people who have that knowledge, without being in sohbet with people who have that knowledge.

You want knowledge of patience? You cannot get it in books you have to be around those ones who are patient. See how they deal with things and you are going to learn. Sit and help, ask, observe, question. Learn. When you understand, ‘ah, this one is very patient with this kind of thing but very impatient with that, I must take something. This one is very impatient with those things but is very patient with these things. I have no patience with these things. Ya Rabbi, may I have that kind of patience.’ You learn. You are in a Jamaat, everyone here has a different secret that Allah swt has put that you don’t own, ever, you’re not going to ever have it. If you discover that, if you understand that and you say, ‘ya Rabbi, how beautiful, this one has this, I don’t have this, I am praying, may I have that,’ then you’ll take something, you’ll take something and you’ll take something, and you build up your own beauty. Do you understand?

You’re not looking at what you have, you’re looking at what you don’t have, what other people have and wishing that you have that, to, at least, to make that intention, then you’re going to learn. The problem is, being in a Jamaat like this, everything is okay, everything is good, one thing happens, you take that one thing and you color everything, the whole person, based on that one action. That is coming from your ego. That is not being intelligent, definitely. Then, yes, you will learn how to understand and how to judge that person according to that context, not this whole thing just according to that context.

So, Allah is patient. How patient He is. We are asking from that one, Ya Sabbur, to let us to have more wisdom in the patience, InsyaAllah. Wa min Allahu Taufiq, Al-Fatiha. Selam Aleykum Wa Rahmatullah Wa Barakatu.
