All praises are due to Allah, Lord of the Universes. All praises are due to Allah, Who has guided us to this; and we would never have been guided if Allah had not guided us. Certainly the messengers of our Lord had come with the truth. (7:43). All praises are due to Allah Who sent Sayyidina Muhammad (AS) as the Seal of the Prophethood and the Mercy to the Universes.
And may all peace and blessings be upon The Master of humans and jinn, The Prophet of the Two Holy Places, The Imam of the Two Qiblas, Our Helper in the Two Worlds, The Master of Qaba Qawsayn, The Beloved of the Lord of the Two Easts and the Two Wests, The grandfather of al-Hasan and al-Husayn, Sayyidina Muhammad (AS) (Salawat al-Taj). And may peace and blessings be upon his noble family and blessed companions, especially upon the Four Khulafa-e-Rashideen, Hz. Abu Bakr el-Siddiq, Hz. Umar el-Faruq, Hz. Osman el-Ghani, and Hz. Ali el-Murtaza, and all those who follow them until the Last Day.
O Believers! Welcome to you on this Holy Day of Jummah in the Month of Rabiul Ahir. Welcome to you as we are approaching the month of Jamadiul Awwal, and after that Jamadiul Ahir, and after that we shall insha’Allah enter into the three holy months of Rajab, Shaban and Ramazan. We are asking our Lord to grant us the ability to spend our breath of life in a way that is pleasing to Him and His Beloved (AS).
O Believers! Allah (SWT) is telling us about the Day of Judgment in Surah Shu’ara, saying: BismillahirRahmanirRahim. The day when wealth and children will not benefit anyone except he who will come to Allah with the Qalbin Saleem (A pure heart). SadaqallahulAdzim (26: 87-89).
And the Righteous people who came before us used to say about the heart: The heart is the king of the limbs and the rest of the limbs are its soldiers; they always obey him by implementing his instructions and they never disobey him in any regard. Remember when the king is pious, his soldiers will also be pious. Similarly, when the king is sinful, his soldiers will also be sinful.Holy Prophet (AS) is saying in his Hadith Sherif: Follow my Sunnah and the Sunnah of my Sahabis. And in another Hadith Sherif he is saying (AS): The tribes of Israel broke up into seventy-two sects. My ummah shall break up into seventy-three sects. All of them will be in the Fire except for one: That group which follows what me and my Companions are following.
Ya Ayyuhal Mu’minoon! O Believers! We must return to our Lord, Allah (SWT), with a pure heart. We must return to Him with a heart that is free of association, free of the ego, free of this dunya. And the Way to attain that kind of heart, as shown to us in the Hadith Sherif that we mentioned, is to follow the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah, alaihi salatu wa salam, and to follow the Sunnah of his Sahabi. The logical question that an intelligent man asks himself after hearing this is: How do I follow the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (AS) and the Sunnah of his Sahaba-e-Kiram today?
If we go out into the bazaar of ideas, we are going to find people are selling so many things. But the product that is being sold the most and which most people are buying today, is the idea that the way to follow the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (AS) and his Sahabi is to acquire knowledge. The Muslims of the last 50-100 years are sold on the idea that the only way of being a good Muslim is to become a scholar. That to reach to safety in this world and the next, we have to sit down in classrooms and study. Not just some people, but everyone. Everybody has to learn Arabic. And after learning Arabic, they have to memorize the Quran and the Hadith. And everybody has to learn Fiqh, and everybody has to learn Aqidah, and everybody has to learn Tajwid, and so on and so forth. And those who subscribe to this way of thinking teach that Islam is a religion that is only about becoming scholars. In their world-view, everyone should be an Alim. And if everyone was an Alim, then the world would be in safety.
That is why when we look at the Masjids all over the world, what are they busy with? Giving classes.Giving conferences. Making universities, collecting money, twenty four hours. Putting up one whiteboard in the front of the masjid, and everybody comes in with their laptops and notebooks to take notes, they sit for 3 or 4 hours to listen to a lecture on the books of for example, Imam al-Ghazali, and then they leave and go home. And they believe that by engaging in this type of activity, they are rectifying their own souls. But, is this in fact the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (AS) and the Sunnah of his Sahabi? Is this the Sunnah of 1400 years of Muslims who preserved this religion with their blood so that it could reach to us today? Or is this just another innovation of the ahir zaman?
To begin, we must say this to those ignorant people who just want to twist our words: Knowledge is important. And the Ulema of Islam, the true Ulema of Islam, they are from the Inheritors of the Holy Prophet (AS). We are dust under the feet of the Four Imams. We are dust under the feet of those Ulema who came before us who sacrificed their entire lives and the lives of those whom they love around them, to protect the Religion of Allah. Those were the Righteous Scholars who came before. But this is not that time. We are not in the time when Islam is ruling. We are not in a time where the entire population runs to the Masjids upon hearing the Ezan. We are not in a time where the people are under the protection of the Shadow of Allah on earth. No. We are in the End of Times. And in this End of Times, a cartel of those claiming to be scholars have convinced the entire Muslim world that the Path to Paradise is paved with pens and paper. But an intelligent man will not accept this claim without investigating. An intelligent man will look at the history of Islam and say, is this how the Muslims lived for 1400 years? And the answer to that question is a very clear “no.”
Holy Prophet (AS) is saying, follow my Sunnah and the Sunnah of my Sahabis. And he is saying in another Hadith e-Sharif, The best of generations is my generation, then those who follow them, then those who follow them. This religion is founded upon a chain. And the links of that chain are not strengthened with book knowledge. The links of that chain have been strengthened and maintained through men and women who dedicated their whole lives to Allah and the Messenger, men and women who lived only for Allah.
Living for Allah does not come through having book knowledge. If speaking Arabic with understanding and depth made a person from the Saliheen, then the Jahil Arabs would have all been saints. If learning Fiqh and Tajwid alone made a person a Jannati, then the chairs of western universities who have memorized the books of the scholars would be the best people on earth. If an obsession with becoming scholars was the definition of being a good Muslim, then the Wahhabis must be called the best of Muslims. But we know that this is not the case. In fact, we see that the tyranny of scholarship in this 21st century has caused the Muslims to lose their heybet and their honor. Why? Because when you trust only book knowledge, then people can change the books to say what they like, to promote their agenda, and you will follow that; because your faith lies inside of those books.
So in this 21st century, scholars have emerged who wear the clothes of Islam but are in fact working against this religion. They are not connected to the chain of Righteous Scholarship going back 1400 years. Instead, they are a new breed of scholars that can only trace their lineage back 100 years, and are trying to invent a new religion. Even those who have sanads that they can trace back, today, are selling those sanads in an effort to “modernize” Islam. Because the scholars of today, by their nature, are not dedicated to standing for the Truth in every situation. They are instead worried about self-preservation. And when a person is worried about self-preservation, when a person is worried about ensuring his own interests rather than the interests of the religion, then he will compromise. And compromise, it leads to weakness. And weakness, it leads to destruction. Because this is not the time for scholarship. This is the end of times.
O Muslims! This is the End of Times. Anyone who tells you differently is without doubt either ignorant, or they are actively working for dajjal. And one of the biggest things that the Holy Prophet (AS) warned us about in the End of Times is scholars who will trick believers using the religion. Rasulallah (AS) said: There is something I fear for my nation worse than the Dajjal. I fear for my nation worse than dajjal, it is misguided and crooked scholars. (Musnad Imam Ahmad). And he (AS) is also saying: It will happen when knowledge will be no more.” A Sahabi Ziyad (ra) asked, “Allah’s Messenger, how will knowledge vanish despite the fact that we will be reciting the Qur’an and teaching its recitation to our children and our children will teach its recitation to their children up to the Day of Resurrection?” When he heard that, he (AS) said, “Ya Ziyad, do these Jews and Christians not recite the Torah and the Injil but not act according to what is contained in them?” (Tirmidhi).
And he (AS) is also saying: In the End Times men will come forth who will fraudulently use religion for worldly ends and wear sheepskins in public to display weakness. Their tongues will be sweeter than sugar, but their hearts will be the hearts of wolves. (Tirmidhi). Run to good deeds before a disaster like a dark piece of night will strike you, when a man will get up a believer in the morning and rest in the evening as an unbeliever: He will sell his religion for the goods of this world. (Muslim). And also Alaihi salatu wa salam said: Wolves will give sermons in the End Times. Let those who come to see those times seek shelter from their evil in Allah. They will be very corrupt people. Hypocrisy will prevail, and nobody will be ashamed of it and its manifestations. (Tirmidhi).
O Believers! Do we need to hear more? The Holy Prophet Muhammad (AS), who was sent as the Bashir and the Nadhir, he is giving us this warning about scholars at the End of Times. So shouldn’t we at least be skeptical when we see that the entire of the Muslim world is running to become scholars, when Holy Prophet (AS) himself is warning that in the end of times they will be wolves? The question then becomes, if not scholarship, then what? What is the way to safety? What is the way to gaining a Qalbin Saleem? And the answer is in front of us. The answer is in the lives of the Muslims who lived in this world and went to Ahiret with the title of Abdullah. Travel in the Muslim world. From Africa, to India, to Turkey, to Malaysia, to Kazakhstan. You will find few madrasas and universities standing that go back hundreds of years. But everywhere you go, there is something that you will always see. You will see Dergahs and the tombs of the Friends of Allah. They weren’t built yesterday. They are standing for hundreds of years. These tombs and Dergahs, they are not just buildings; they are messages to us from our grandfathers. And the message that they are sending to us by building those places is to say, this is the Way to Allah. This is the Way to the Qalbin Saleem. And if a man looks intelligently at the history of Islam, he will find that the majority of Muslims throughout the generations were not running to become Ulema; the majority of them were not even literate. They were running to become servants. And they were learning Servanthood from the Servants of Allah. Those who are following the Way of being the Walking Quran. Those who are dressed with the Character of the Quran and the Sunnah through living it, not through studying it. And those are the Friends of Allah. And the Friends of Allah, they are not academics. They are not elitists. They are sent to this world to mix with the people and to guide them.
The Friends of Allah, their hearts beat with the Love of the Ummat-i-Muhammed, because they are continuing the mission of Rasulallah, which is to save the Ummat. Whereas the scholars prefer to sit in their ivory towers with their books and leave the people, the Friends of Allah are focused on sitting with the people, getting to know them, and connecting with their hearts, because they know that in the service of the people they will find the pleasure of Allah. As our Grandsheykh, Hazrat Abul Hasan al-Harkani (KS) is saying: A scholar wakes up early in the morning and seeks how to increase his knowledge. A religious wakes up and seeks how to increase his faith. But Abul-Hassan looks for how to make a human being happy. That is the Way of the Saints, and that is the Way of the Righteous Believers who passed through this world before us. And make no mistake, that is the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet and the Sunnah of his Sahabi e-Kiram. The Holy Prophet did not come with a pen and paper to write books and pass them out. He definitely did not come to have fund-raising. The Holy Prophet came with a heart illuminated with the Light of Allah, and he sat with the people in the depths of their darkness to bring that Light to them. Not through study and reading, but through service and through the community. And by living in that way, we will learn how to pass through any test that comes before us.
Today, yes, let’s speak about what’s happening today. Today a man who has the lowest morals and ethics is being inaugurated as the President of the United States. And the Muslims in this country, indeed, all over the world, they are panicking. And we are now embarking on two ships. Either we are going to get on the ship of saying, we are going to do activism. We are going to protest. We are going to yell and scream in the streets because we don’t like the president. Or they are getting on the ship of selling their religion. They are going to say, ‘oh, Islam, it’s just a religion like any religion. We just want to go to our mosques on Friday and that’s it. We will shave our beards and take off our hijabs. We aren’t going to speak the Truth. We just want to have Muslim names, but we don’t want to have Muslim hearts.’ That is what the Muslim community is doing now. But we know that if we connect ourselves to the generations that came before, they lived through the worst tyranny. And they survived. And their faith survived. Because they were connected to those who are connected to Allah. And those ones, those Evliyaullah, they know how to live in any situation, because they have the wisdom to see the road that is ahead. Just like when the people came to Hz. Hasan al-Basri (KS) and said they wanted to rebel against Hajjaj bin Yusuf. And he said, ‘I say that he should not be fought. If this is a punishment from Allah, then you will not be able to remove it with your swords. If this is a trial from Allah, then be patient until Allah’s judgement comes, and He is the best of judges.’ Those people didn’t like it, and they went and fought Hajjaj anyway, and they were slaughtered. Hz. Hasan said: If the people had patience when they are being tested by their unjust ruler, it will not be long before Allah will give them a way out. However, they always rush for their swords, so they are left with their swords. By Allah! Not even for a single day did they bring about any good.
Our way is the way of those who came before us. We are not here to rebel and to fight. At the same time, our way is not the way of selling out and giving up our religion. We will speak the Truth, no matter what the cost is. We will call ourselves Muslims, no matter what the cost is. We will stand for the Honor of Islam, no matter what the cost is. Because Holy Prophet (AS) said, ‘Verily, among the greatest jihad is a word of justice in front of a tyrannical ruler. (Tirmidhi).’ We are not fighting a physical jihad. But we will always stand to speak for the Truth.
Elhamdulillah, we are in the Way of the Evliyaullah. And we know that we are only in this Way because of our Sheykh, Sahib el-Sayf Sheykh Abdul Kerim el-Kibrisi el-Rabbani, taking our hands and bringing us to guidance. He is an Inheritor of the Prophet. He is a Man of the Age. And if we follow his advice, we will find safety in every situation. His advice for these times is to stand for Truth. He is saying, (KS): We are Defenders of the Truth. The Hakkanis. Defenders of the Truth. Not only through the name. Not only through this small area. Anywhere we are walking on top of this earth, we are defending the Truth. Anyone who is saying other than that, they must be the agents of Sheytan. In my position I am a weak servant. But as our Sheykh is saying, with Allah (SWT) I can be the most strong one. But no need for me to be the strong one because Sheykh Mevlana is on top of everything, Alhamdulillahi Rabbil Alameen. All those who are going to run and become helpers to Sheytan and dajjals, welcome. Run right now if you want. If there’s not one person left around, don’t think that this attitude is going to change. It’s not. It’s not going to change because we are defending the Truth and against sheytans and dajjals it’s going to become more strong, more powerful. Never is it going to become weaker. We may not be able to carry this until the end. Whatever Allah (SWT) has granted to us in this life, inshaAllah ar-Rahman we are going to spend it until the last breath and no man on the face of earth, no sheytans, no dajjals and no governments are going to be able to put any fear in us because we are holding tightly to Allah, to His Prophet (AS) and to His Awliya.
We are praying to have that courage. We are praying to have that character. We are praying to have that strength. Ya Rabbi, let us to only fear You out of Love for You. Let us to be Hakkani. Let us to be the servants of Your Prophet and of Your Friends. Protect us from the evil of the evildoers. Keep us amongst the People of Hakk. We are ending with the dua of our Holy Prophet (AS), who used to ask in his sajdah: Ya Allah! Place light in my heart; [and light in my tongue;] and place light in my hearing; and place light in my seeing; and place light from below me; and place light from above me, and light on my right, and light on my left; and place light ahead of me; and place light behind me; [and place light in my self;] and make the light greater for me. Amin.
