All praises are due to Allah, Lord of the Universes. All praises are due to Allah, Who is the First, the Last, the Manifest, the Hidden, the One Who has Might and Power over all things. All praises are due to Allah Who sent Sayyidina Muhammad (AS) as the Mercy to Universes and the Seal of the Prophethood.
And may all peace and blessings be upon Sayyidina wa Mawlana Muhammad (AS), the One who attained the highest stations by his perfection. The One who dispelled darkness by his beauty. The one who is the most noble in all his attributes. Peace be upon him and his family. (Hz. Saadi Shirazi). And may all peace and blessings be upon his blessed companions, especially upon the Four Khulafa-e-Rashideen, Hz. Abu Bakr el-Siddqi, Hz. Umar el-Faruq, Hz. Osman el-Ghani, Hz. Ali el-Murtaza, and all those who follow them until the Last Day.
Ayyuhal Mu’minoon! O Believers! Welcome to you on this Holy Day of Jummah, the Last Jummah of the Month of Rabiul Ahir. And insha’Allah in a few days we will enter into the month of Jamadial Awwal. Welcome to you as we are just 60 days away from the beginning of Rajab Shahrullah, which is the beginning of the three Holy Months. May we spend the breath of life that our Lord is granting to us wisely to prepare for those days.
And Elhamdulillah, we have just passed through the commemoration of one of the Greatest Heroes of Islam, Ulu Hakan Sultan Abdul Hamid Han the Second, May Allah Sanctify his Secret and raise his position in Ahiret. In his honor, let us to read the Khutba that is coming to us from our Ottoman Grandfathers in his honor. BismillahirRahmanirRahim: O Allah! Have Mercy on the Khalifas who have been on the Right Path and the Imams who have been Well-Guided, who have ruled with righteousness and have struggled for Justice. O Allah! Aid and help Your servant, Your Khalifa, the Great Sultan, the Exalted Hakan, the Shadow of Allah on earth, the Protector of the Kings of Arab and Ajam, the Servant of the Two Holy Masjids. For he is a Sultan, son of a Sultan, the Ghazi Sultan Abdul Hamid Han, son of the Ghazi, Sultan Abdulmajid Khan, son of the Ghazi Sultan Mahmud Khan, May Allah cause his Khilafat to endure. And may Allah spread justice in his reign and cause righteousness and generosity to extend on the two worlds to the end of times and the end of ages! Ameen! O You who answers those who call on You! O You who is the Best of Helpers, ya Allah! Help him with a help of holiness, and make him victorious with a near Victory.
We are asking our Lord, Allah (SWT), to bring that Justice back to the world again, and to bring those Hakans back to rule this world with Justice.
O Believers! Allah (SWT) is saying in the Holy Quran, in Surah al-Hadid: BismillahirRahmanirRahim. And those who believe in Allah and His messengers- they are the Sincere (lovers of Truth), and the witnesses (who testify), in the eyes of their Lord: They shall have their Reward and their Light. But those who reject Allah and deny Our Signs- they are the Companions of Hell-Fire. (57:19).
And in Surah al-A’la : BismillahirRahmanirRahim. He is saying (SWT): Verily he has succeeded who purifies himself. And makes Zikr of the name of his Lord and prays. No, but you prefer the life of this dunya. But the Ahiret is better for you and more lasting. Indeed, all of this is in the previous scriptures- the books of Ibrahim and Musa. (87:14-19).
And Holy Prophet (AS) is saying in his Hadith Sherif: Your worst enemy is your nafs which lies between your sides.
O Believers! Our purpose in this life is to become from those who purify themselves. Our purpose in this life is to be from those who fight their egos. Our purpose in this life is to remember our Lord, Allah (SWT), and to become His servants. That is the important work that we have in this life. And anything that we do in this life that is not aimed toward that work, it is useless. Not only is it useless, but is going to count against us in the Akhirat.
We are living in a very dark, very troubled and confusing time. And those who are living in this dark time and don’t have access to light, they are bumping around trying to figure out how to navigate in the darkness. And because they are blind, they are coming to so many solutions that are not helping them. They are looking to solutions that they make up for themselves in that darkness instead of looking to the solutions of those who had walked through that darkness, who brought light to them. They are saying, well, we must enter into politics in this time. We must become active. We must become Muslim activists. And in doing so, they follow one of two routes. Either they become co-opted by the government, and then become puppets for regimes to fool the people. Or, they become complete rebels, damaging the entire society in an effort that will end only in destruction and harm. Others are saying, we must try to reclaim our former honor by educating ourselves. And they are reading books in that darkness, not knowing what they are reading and why they are reading. Because most are reading without permission. They are just sitting in the dark, not thinking to get up and try to find Light.Others still are saying, well, we must fight our way out of this darkness. And they take our their swords and cut around themselves blindly. They kill themselves, their families, and the innocent ones around them. Because they don’t know why they are fighting and who they are killing; they are just swinging their swords in the darkness.
None of this will benefit the people in this End of Times. Because these knowledges, they are not the knowledge for this time. And knowledge that does not benefit a person, it is haram to seek that knowledge. Seeking that knowledge is a sign that Allah does not love a person. As Holy Prophet (AS) is saying: The sign that Allah does not love a person is that he is busy with Malayani, knowledge that does not concern him. And in another Hadith e-Sharif, he is saying (AS): Knowledge from which no benefit is derived is like a treasure out of which nothing is spent in the cause of Allah.
So pursuing knowledge that does not benefit us is dangerous to our Ahiret. Look at the world outside- so many Muslims are entering into politics; did it help anyone? The Muslims who, during the last presidency, thought they were real “Americans,” and sold out their principles and their morals, did they gain any benefit now that we have a new president? Those who are busy making conferences where they read scholarly books and pay thousands of dollars for “spiritual retreats,” do they have the vision of what to do in this time? Or are they sitting in their libraries afraid of what is going to happen next, because they cannot see the road ahead? Those who have taken the path of violence, have they helped a single person with their fighting; or has their violence given birth to more bloodshed and confusion, sending the whole Ummat into a disaster?
For an intelligent man, the answers are clear. And so then we ask, how do we purify ourselves in this life so that we are in safety in Ahiret? The Great Sheykh, Imam Junaid al-Baghdadi (KS), is giving us that answer. Hz. Junaid, he was not just one of the greatest Awliya, but one of the greatest Alim, one of the greatest Ulema. He had all the scholarly knowledge, and he knew all of the debates and controversies of his time. Yet, after Hz. Junaid passed from this world, Shaykh Ja’far al-Khaldi saw him in his dream. He said, Ya Hz. Junaid, how did Allah treat you in the Ahiret? Hz. Junaid replied: All those complicated and subtle subjects, they are all finished, those all those platitudes disappeared, those scholarly sciences were completely destroyed, those illustrations were erased and nothing helped us except some sincere rakats which we used to pray before Fajr.
One of the greatest Friends of Allah ever to live is sending us that message, saying, the only thing that helped him in Ahiret, although he was a King size wali and he was a King size scholar, was sincerity in his worship to Allah. Not high level scholarly knowledge. Not high level “Sufi” knowledge. But Ikhlas, sincerity to Allah. And one of the great Ottoman Sultans, Sultan Murad the Third, he wrote a poem expressing the same feeling. Showing us that even though he was the most powerful man in the world, even though he was the Shadow of Allah on Earth, he knew that only sincerity to Allah (SWT), to the Messenger (AS), to their Friends, that is the only way to safety. He is saying (KS): Wake up O my eyes, wake up from heedlessness. Azrail has made an intention on your soul, wake up…This world is temporary, don’t get fooled. Don’t rely proudly on your crown and your throne. Don’t trust in saying “I am the master of the seven climates.” Wake up o my eyes, wake up. Forgive this Murat, your servant. Pardon my mistakes, erase my misdeeds. Let me be raised on Judgment Day under the flag of your Prophet. Wake up o my eyes, wake up.
O Believers. That is the reality of this life. Safety is found only under the Flag of Holy Prophet (AS), by living sincerely for Allah. How do we live our lives to be resurrected under the Flag of Rasulallah? We travel on the Path of the Sincere Servants of Allah who have come before us. That is the way. And that Path is the Path of service and devotion to the Friends of Allah. As Holy Prophet (AS) is saying in the Hadith Qudsi, Allah (SWT) will ask the servant on the Judgment Day: Did you love one of my Friends so I can join you to him?
The Path to Allah is learned by those who have walked that Path. As Imam al-Ghazali (KS) is saying: Keep company with those who have firm faith, hear from them the learning of sure faith, follow them always, so that your faith may become firm as their faith became firm. And Imam Abu Hanifa (RA), the Greatest Imam, is saying: If it were not for two years, I would have perished. For two years, I accompanied Imam Jafar al-Sadiq and I acquired the spiritual knowledge that made me a knower in the Way of Tasawwuf.
The essence of these statements is found in the words of Mawlana Jalaluddin Rumi (KS), who was the foremost scholar of the Seljuk Saltanat. When he met his Master, Hz. Shams-e-Tabrez (KS), he realized that the Way to Allah was contained in the knowledge of Hz. Shams, not in the knowledge of books that he had learned. And so Hz. Mevlana (KS) said: Throw all your books into the fire, and turn with heart and soul towards the pure-hearted (the Awliya).
O Believers! In the world today, majority have turned their backs to the pure hearted ones. They have turned their backs to the Evliya Allah. And for that reason, the world is in darkness. But the Evliyaullah, they are still here. And they are here to guide people to the way of Sincerity, to guide people to safety in Ahiret. All the other ways, they are all finished. They are leading to darkness and confusing darkness. The way of the Awliya, it is clarity, guiding you to Light. Sahib el-Sayf is saying: There are two ways. People are traveling in the wrong direction and they are thinking that they are in the Sirat-ul Mustaqim but they are traveling in the wrong direction. And at the end of the road they are finding, “Oh, I came to the doorsteps of Jahannam.” Yes. You have to know the right direction to go. Now you have to have a guide in front of you. If you don’t have a guide in front of you then you are going to lose the right direction. The guide is that one who sees. That’s what Sheykh means. Sheykh is the one who sees ahead. It’s not an ordinary person’s seeing, no. If Sheykh has the ordinary vision too then it’s no good. That is a jubbah sheykh, zikir sheykh but it’s not a Murshid. Murshid is that one who knows when the road comes to fork, which way to turn. He sees the light going ahead and the Holy Prophet (AS) is holding that torch. Anyone who is following, they may go then, InshaAllah ar-Rahman.
Elhamdulillah, that we have such a Murshid. O Murids! Don’t give up your beyat. Don’t betray. Have no doubt- this is the Way to Allah. Insha’Allah, we will walk in it with sincerity. Our Grandsheykh, Shaykh Mawlana Muhammad Nazim Adil el-Hakkani (KS) is saying: You ask for the Divine Presence. You want to reach the Malakut. Of course, you will find a caravan which goes to that world and join them. You will follow them. What did the great ones say? Certainly, they wanted to be with them even in the back of the caravan. You can’t go anywhere without finding the caravan. There is a caravan to the Divine Presence. The leaders of the caravan to the Divine presence are the Prophets ‘alayhumu s-salām. The leader of the Prophets is our Master (AS). Then come his successors, Awliyā’. Therefore, who looks for the caravan will find them. If you find one of them, you will join their caravan. By foot or by vehicle you will reach where they’re going.
Ya Rabbi, we are asking you to let us to be from that caravan, in the company of our Sheykh. Amin.
