What is Shafa’at/ Intercession?

Question: What is Shafa’at/ Intercession? Knowing the burdens of sins and all the wrong actions I have done, how can I hope to be granted intercession?

Hoja zikirullah

BismillahirRahmanirRahim. We don’t deserve it, but we can always hope. Holy Prophet (asws) is saying, If there’s going to be the first person to enter into a Paradise, we must hope that it is us. And if there is going to be the last person to come out from Hell fire to enter into Paradise, we must hope it is us.

Hope, it is a part of faith. Understanding that we don’t deserve it but it is because of the Mercy of Allah, it should give us more faith, should give us more love to our Creator, should give us more love to our Prophet (asws) which he says, ‘my intercession is for those ones from my  ummat who commit a major sins.’ It’s open. What is the most major sin that we can make? Shirk.  As long as we have our ego, we are not having real faith yet. We are not looking at praying or fasting. We are looking at faith. And we are begging for His intercession. And the Prophet (asws), his love for us is so tremendous that he does not do or say anything at all in the Divine Presence except for our intercession on that day that even the Prophets they are despairing, they are fearing from the judgement of Allah and they are running to find the Holy Prophet (asws) to intercede for them. And Allah will call the Holy Prophet (asws) to His Divine Presence and he will put his head down and Allah is saying, this is not the time for you to worship. He says, ‘Ya Rabbi, I’m asking intercession.’ And Allah is saying, ‘Ask, I will give you.’

‘I’m asking.’

‘Ask more, I will give you more.’

‘I’m asking, Ya Rabbi.’

‘Ask, I will give you more.’

‘I will not be happy Ya Rabbi if there is a single one from my ummat in the Hell fire.’

Allah says, ‘I have already given it to you O My Prophet.

The whole point is not to know our stations, closeness, to Allah or to the Holy ones. The whole point is to know how very far away we are from them and to understand their Greatness. You cannot understand their greatness if you also consider yourself great. You cannot. You cannot understand and appreciate their greatness if you are still considering yourself to be something.  We must take that, that La Ilah to ourselves.

This much is enough. Insya’Allah, don’t despair. Because they are not making it difficult for us to ask for their intercession and to ask for their help. In fact, they say, ask for our help. We will give. We have done so many wrong things. Yes, we have done it, you and me and everyone. But you cannot despair  because that is coming from Sheytan. Then we are going to run to try to fix it, in whatever small way. We cannot say, ‘I’m so dirty.’ Run to do something. ‘I cannot.’ Allah has created you as a man, He did create you as an ant. You can do something. And even that ant with the broken leg, he was carrying with his mouth,  one tiny drop of water to put out the fire of Namrud that was going to burn Ibrahim (as). You are saying that you are worse than that ant? Now that is arrogance. That is stubbornness. That is your ego. Because that ant with a broken leg, carrying only a tiny drop of water in his mouth, angel asking him, saying, ‘ where are you going, O ant?’ He said, ‘I’m going to put out the fire of Namrud.’ What can that ant do? The fire that namrud burnt, that could be seen all the way from Basra. The fire was so huge. And that ant with a faith, he didn’t say, ‘what can I do? Cannot do anything. Let it alone.’ No, he says what I can do. This much I can do. This much. And Allah is saying,  ‘Take one step to me and I will take ten steps to you.  Come to me walking and I’ll come to you running. Run to me and I will fly to you.’ And our Sheykh said in one sohbet, years ago, in 39th street, in the darkness, before the zikr started, he says, ‘Ya Rabbi we are running to you.’ But you cannot hope now for that if you are just sitting still.

Whatever that you can do. And Allah is always trying to find an excuse, something good that you are going to do. There is nothing good that we are doing. On the day of Judgment, nothing. The worse person, he has committed every wrong things, every disobedience, nothing, no one can say anything good, Allah is going to say that, trying to find excuse to save that one. Allah will say, ‘was there any friend of Mine that is pleased with him, that he likes in his heart, that I can put him together with My friend?’ Now the love and the obedience to the friends of Allah, that is our only hope. We are not asking for the Judgment of Allah. We are asking for His Mercy and Allah’s Mercy it is never ending.

It is the name of Mercy and Compassion that we begin everything with. BismillahirRahmanirRahim. And all Knowledge of beginning and all knowledge of last, it is contain in BismillahirRahmanirRahim. And Allah swt, if Rahman has one hundred parts, He has taken one part of Rahman and from that one part, He has divided to give to Paradises, to give to the alams, to give to this world, from that one part that you find the animals, the mothers having compassion, having love and mercy to their young ones, that one part. The ninety-nine parts He has saved it for us on the day of judgement. Holy Prophet (asws) is saying, ‘this quality of Rahim,’ he says, ‘even I have not witness it yet, and He is saving it for us.’ This must give us some boost, knowing our Lord a little bit more, then the worship and the action and the intention that we have, must make us to commit them with more love, more understanding, more closeness to our Lord. Not approaching worship, we have to do it by force, because if we don’t, bad things is going to happen to us. That is not religion yet, that is not deen,  that is not spirituality, that is superstition. That is superstition. Good luck and bad luck. Nothing to do with you doing good things or bad things, it’s everything to do if whether we are lucky or we are unlucky.

Islam is not superstition. We are worshipping Allah because He deserves to be worship. If we are sitting down and understanding how He deserves to be worshipped, whichever of the favor of your Lord can you deny. That time, one sejdah that we are making, one sejdah, not two raka’ats, not hundred raka’ats, not tawafs, just one sejdah, that time we will be in Mi’raj. From that Shukr, we are already in Mi’raj. May Allah forgive me Insya’Allah and bless you.  Wa minaAllahu Taufiq. Al-Fatiha. SelamAleykum WArahmatullahi wabarakatu.
