Auzu billahi minash shaytanir rajim Bismillahir rahmanir Rahim. Destur, medet Ya SahibulSaif Sheykh Abdul Kerim Effendi Hz. Nawaitul arbain, Nawaitul khalwa, nawaitul uzla, nawaitu suluk, Hasbinallah Ve Nimel Vekil wa La hawla wa la quwwata illa billahil aliyyil adzim.
SelamAleykum warahmatullahi wabarakatu. Selamun Qaulam mir RabbiRahim. Selams from your Lord, Most compassionate One. The believer’s aim should be that, to receive the Selams from their Lord. When our Lord gives us Selams, sending peace to us, sending security, sending blessings, what else do you need? What else is there? We should be aiming for that, the pleasure of our Lord and for our Lord to send selams to us. Can it be? Of course it can. That is ayatul Kerima. That is an ayat from Surahtul Yasin, where we are hoping on that Day of Judgment, Allah is going to say, ‘Selamun Qaulam mir Rabbi Rahim.’ Selam, peace, a word from your Lord, that’s the most compassionate. Just one word. A word, but in that is everything. Because in that, is Islam.
We are moving towards the night of Bera’at. The ones who have Selam, the ones who have peace, are the only ones who can give peace. You notice how some people, they cannot give peace. They can give only, say, confusion, or anger, or frustration. They cannot give peace. We are seeing, maybe they are doing so much worship, they are doing so much fasting, doing so many things but there is no peace. There is no peace. Why is that? Why a person who is trying to be a good servant to Allah SWT and he’s not getting peace? Intention must be wrong. Intention is not there. Intention is not to do it for Allah sake. The intention is just using now again religion just to satisfy your ego and your desires. Because the one who is always asking for Allah’s peace and Allah’s pleasure, that one is between hope and fear. He’s between hope and he’s between fear. That his understanding, ‘I don’t know if my Lord is going to be happy with the work that I have done today. I hope, but I fear that He won’t.’ He is satisfied with his Lord, he is satisfied with everything that comes, but he’s not satisfied with the work that he is doing. So he’s pushing himself more. He makes his today better than yesterday. He makes his tomorrow better than today, because he is between hope and fear. And he’s always pushing himself to say, ‘even if I can do something good, that is just because of my Lord’s blessings. I can do something better.’ ‘Ah, I drop this, this and this today. I’m going to run to ask for my Lord’s forgiveness, and now I’m going to run to do something good.’ That one is definitely just fill with hope. And the fear that is coming is not because he fears that Allah is going to punish him so much. He’s fearing that he is just going to make Allah unhappy with him.
Now this, he starts to understand the relationship between the Habib and the mahbub, the beloved and the object of his love. Because now, we say Tasawwuf of course is a matter of love, but they don’t really talk about this part.
It is certain in your love, but it is uncertain because the heart of the one who is in love it is uncertain. But that uncertainty is to make that certainty to become even better. It is not doubt. It is not any negativity. It is saying, ‘I reach to this level of uncertainty, I must reach to another level of certainty. I must. This is not enough. This level, it is not enough. I must reach to another level, I must reach to another level. I must run to serve.’ Like what our Sheykh is saying, Holy Prophet (asws) is saying, the believer his today must be better than yesterday and his tomorrow has to be better than today. We are doing, and we are happy. Alhamdulillah. But we must run to make it better. That comes with sincerity. That comes, looking, yes, not only your bad deeds that you have done but looking at our good deeds and say, I can do this better. My Lord has shown me so much mercy that is making it simple, easy for me to worship, say all night long, but I know deep down inside, I know that I can do it better, that that is not as good and as clean as it can be. What happens when you have this kind of thinking? Pride is not going to enter into your heart, arrogance is not going to enter into your heart because you know by yourself, whatever I’ve done is still no good, really, and it’s only acceptable because of Allah’s mercy.
We pray, especially in the Naksibendi way, we pray. But after every prayer, we don’t say alhamdulillah, we say astaghfirullah. Astaghfirullah. We are saying astaghfirullah, like what Sheykh Effendi is saying in the khutba, for the mistakes that we have done inside of the prayer. So when the servant is always running to do better, how you think the Lord that is most merciful, that is most kind, most compassion, going to treat him? Because if the whole object is to make your Lord to be more pleased with you, which action now is more pleasing to your Lord? Say you have a child, he does something good, you are happy. And you have another child, he does something, it’s not so good, but you see him pushing himself, he really can’t do it as well as the other one. The other one he does it he feels very happy, very proud, very satisfied, he sits somewhere. But this one, he’s crying because he cannot make it so nice and he’s trying again. He still cannot make it so nice. He’s trying again. Trying again, trying again, he’s never stopping because he’s running to please you. Which one you think that your heart is just going to love more? That one maybe he cannot come near to that one who did things perfectly, but you see him trying so hard.
Allah SWT is not demanding perfection from us. He is not even saying ‘be Saliheen,’ He is saying ‘be with the Saliheen.’ Try. He is saying, ‘you take one step to Me, I will take ten steps to you.’ What about that one who is just trying to fly to Him, falling, flying, falling. That’s why Sheykh Effendi is saying, Allah SWT loves that servant who gets up in the middle of the night, fighting against his sleepiness, reciting, falling (asleep), fighting against his nafs, more than that one who worship a whole night long but he’s not fighting against anything. The whole point is fighting. So many times I see Sheykh Effendi, he’s not really upset that people are sleeping, it’s when they don’t even try to keep awake. Because Allah knows what weak servant we are. Allah knows what kind of creatures that He has created. But He is saying, ‘look, with all your weaknesses, I’m sending you so many ways of My mercy. Reach to them, you’ll find some strength and you’ll find My mercy.’ But when we reject that, and we say we don’t need it, we become spoiled. You cannot make it as good as the other kid, and that one is saying, ‘Ah! So what? I don’t care. I can never do this right. I give up!’
Because the whole point again, you cannot reach to the perfection. Allah is the Creator. Allah is perfect and He is the creator of perfection. But when we try, when we push ourselves, working against our own weakness, working against to our own nafs, especially in Holy days and nights. Allah is most merciful. And when you are in that position also, you understand so many things about yourself and your own weakness, how you can be cruel to others that time. How you can be unforgiving to other people? Because you understand that time how difficult it is. How you are going to start fighting with other people? Aren’t you going to have more mercy, saying, ‘I know how you feel, because I’ve been through it myself. It is not that easy.’ You are going to help. You are not going to sit, you are not going to judge. You are not going to fight.
In this Holy month, only thing that we are going to fight is our ego. Don’t fight each other. Insya’Allah. Be more sincere in what we do. You cannot do so much, but be more sincere in what you do. Ask sincerely for Allah’s forgiveness. With that forgiveness comes everything.
May Allah forgive me and bless you Insya’Allah. May we spend the next few days reaching to the night of Bera’at with more understanding, with more intelligence, with more faith and with more modesty. May Allah forgive me and bless you. May Allah raise the station of our GrandSheykh and our Sheykh, Insya’Allah and all those who are following them. Al-Fatiha. Amin.SelamAleykum.
