All praises are due to our Lord, Allah (SWT). O Allah! Lord of the seven heavens and Lord of the Exalted Throne, our Lord and the Lord of everything, the One Who sent the Tawraat, the Injeel, the Zabur and the Majestic Qur’an. O Allah! You are The First so there is nothing that came before You, and You are The Last so there is nothing that comes after You, and You are The Manifest with nothing above You, and You are The Hidden with nothing below You. All praise belongs to You. (Sheykh Abdul Qadir Geylani KS).
And may all peace and blessings be upon Sayyidina Muhammad (AS), the first and the foremost in the army of the Prophetic Messengers, the leader of the caravan of the saints and the truthful, the best in all creation, the bearer of the flag of the highest honour, the beholder of the secrets of eternity, the translator of the Divine Language, And may peace and blessings be upon his noble family and blessed companions, especially upon the Four Khulafa-e-Rashideen, Hz. Abu Bakr el-Siddiq, Hz. Umar el-Faruq, Hz. Osman el-Ghani, and Hz. Ali el-Murtaza, and all those who follow them until the Last Day.
Ya Ayyuhal Mu’minoon! O Believers! Eid Mubarek. Ramazan Bayraminiz Mubarek Olsun. May it be a day of acceptance. May it be a day of forgiveness and Mercy. May it be a day of gaining the pleasure of a Lord. May it be a day of raising our voices with Tekbir, saying, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, la ilaaha ill-Allahu Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, wa Lillah il-hamd.
Elhamdulillah, we have reached to this blessed day. We have reached to this day after passing through the best days of the year. The days of Rajab (Month of Allah), the days of Shaban (Month of the Holy Prophet AS), and the days of Ramazan (the days of our Ummat). If we kept those days holy, if we honored them, if we ran to be better servants in those days, then today should be a celebration. In this day, we should greet each other and greet our families, and strengthen the ties of Silat al-Rahim.
In reality, any day that our Lord is happy with us, that day is an Eid for us. Just like Hz. Ali (KW) said, when a man visited his house and saw that Hz. Ali was eating very rough, simple bread on the Eid Day. Hz. Ali (KW) said, ‘Today is the day of Eid for someone whose fast has been accepted, whose effort has been deemed worthy, and whose sin has been forgiven. Today is Eid for us, and tomorrow is Eid for us. Every day in which we do not disobey Allah (SWT) is an Eid for us.’
We are blessed to be celebrating this Day of Eid in a place of safety, in a time of safety. We do not have the expectation of violence or anger behind us while we sit in the Masjid. We do not have the struggle of hunger before us on this Day. We do not have concern over basic survival as we gather for the Eid prayer. But don’t look to see as if the Ummat are just the people physically around us right now in this building. Our brothers and our sisters all over the world, they are in that situation. And Islam is complete. Allah (SWT) is saying, BismillahirRahmanirRahim. This day those who disbelieve have despaired of [defeating] your religion; so fear them not, but fear Me. This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion. (5:3).
This religion is a grant from Allah that teaches mankind how to live in such a way that brings peace and justice to the earth. But today, almost the whole world is believing that Islam is the most imperfect system. They are painting Islam to be a barbaric and savage religion that teaches people how to become cruel and heartless. Hasha Astaghfirullah. And this teaching has become so widespread and common, that even Muslims today are questioning their Islam. Keeping Muslim names, keeping a Muslim identity, but questioning Islam. And in that questioning, we are seeing now that the whole Muslim world is running to reinterpret Islam and change the religion. They are running to make a new religion and call it Islam, when it bears no relation to the Divine Religion sent from Allah (SWT). But it looks very familiar to the perversion that had happened before to the ahle kitab. And we are running top speed, we are living in the days of witnessing that perversion, that corruption. As the Holy Prophet (AS) has said, ‘my nation they will run to be like the unbelievers, like the Jews and the Christians, step by step in the ahir Zaman,’ and we are witnessing to that.
Why is this happening? Muslims are cut off from the legacy and the history of Islam for 1400 years. They are cut off from the manners of Islam. They are cut off from the spirit of Islam. While the numbers are increasing, while more and more people are looking from the outward form to be more Muslim, although more and more people may seem as if they are worshiping and running to be in the holy places in the holy time, running to circle around the Ka’aba especially in these days of Ramazan, yet we see that Muslims are losing their spirit. Muslims do not know, we do not know who we are, and we want to become like those ones who hate Islam. And those ones they come and they say, ‘we will teach you who you are.’ So the Muslims become stripped of our identity, our culture, our language, our history. And we are shaped in the image of those who seek to destroy us. We should not live like unbelievers. We should not live as unbelievers want us to live. We should live like Muslims. That is our honor, and that is the grant that has been bestowed upon us from our ancestors.
As Hz. Umar el-Faruq (RA) is saying, ‘We were a disgraced people, and Allah honored us with Islam. If we seek honor in other than Islam, we will be again disgraced.’ It is as if, the words of Faruq al-azam, in these days of ahir Zaman, it has been turned upside down. It is a complete opposite. It is as if we were an honored people because Allah has honored us with Islam but we seek honor in other than Islam and we are disgraced.
The most honorable men and women who ever walked the face of the earth were the believers from the Ummat-i-Muhammed. The earth has never seen a system like Islam, nor has it ever seen people like the Muslims. No other religion ushered in an era of peace and justice like Islam. Wherever Islam spread in the world, it brought with it justice and the rights for all people. To see the proof of this, look at the way that Islam expanded throughout the world. Islam went from Arabia to Persia, Byzantium, India, China, and Africa. Did the Muslims go into these areas and say now we are going to plunder you and take away your culture, your identity and your honor? To make ourselves to become rich and cripple you for hundreds of years? When the British and French colonized Asia and Africa, their first priority was to dismantle the societies that they occupied in order to make the native population weak and ineffective. They took away their wealth, they took away their honor, took away their identity. They made them to become ashamed of themselves and they made them to want to become like those ones who came to oppress them. The Muslims never did that. The Muslims told the people, now live in peace and justice under our protection. All systems that has no justice and has no peace, it has no place in the Muslim society. Because Holy Prophet (AS) was sent not just to watch the rights of the Muslims, but of all people. That is why he is saying in his Hadith Sherif, ‘Beware!’ he’s warning all of us, especially those living in this ahir Zaman, ‘Beware, whoever is cruel and hard on a non-Muslim (who lives in the realm of Islam), whoever takes their rights, burdens them with more than they can bear, or takes anything from them against their free will; I will complain against the person on the Day of Judgment.’
Today, rather than justice being dispensed on the earth, cruelty is being spread to everyone. The cruelty and the tyranny and the terrorism is spread from the west to the east, the north to the south. Muslims learn how to become tyrants and terrorists. Muslims learn how to oppress. Muslims learn how to be violent. Muslims learn how to take away the rights of the non-Muslims. We learn this very well and we turned against to ourselves and we make the floor of the Ka’aba Mukkaramah in Mecca and Medina to be red with the blood of the believers. And when these Muslims that we raised on the wrong ideas, not from Islam, when they have crippled the Muslims from the inside, then they start attacking those ones who formed them, who trained them. And now the whole world is crying. Why?
Oppression and tyranny it is law today. If you are not an oppressor, if you are not a tyrant, you cannot go anywhere in life. And Muslims have started to believe in this because everyone looks at how we can take advantage of the other. We have left the spirit and the edep of the Rasulullah (AS) of 1400 years through his Sahabis, the Tabi’in, the Tabi’I Tabi’in, the Evliyaullah and we have come back to our own Jahilliyah before we gain Islam. And we decide to become nationalist. We have decided to become a divided nation, not one of the ummat. And we wonder why the miserable state of the world is as it is today.
Islam came to bring Justice to the world, because Allah (SWT) has taken the name of Al-‘Adl for Himself. And Justice in Islam, it is given regardless of religion, regardless of race, regardless of wealth, or position, or family. Today justice is only for those who belong to the same religion, to the same faith, to the same wealth, to the same position or to the same family.
Once there was a very rich woman of Quraysh who stole, she stole and she was going to be punished. The people came to Holy Prophet (AS) and asked him if he really intended to carry out the punishment on this woman. She was coming from a high family. She was aristocratic. The Holy Prophet (AS) replied to them saying: What destroyed the nations preceding you was that if a noble amongst them stole they would forgive him, and if a poor person amongst them stole, they would inflict Allah’s Legal punishment on him. By Allah, if Fatima, the daughter of Muhammad stole, I would cut off her hand. The world never saw such Justice. And the world will never see such justice again, until Mahdi (AS) appears. That Justice changed the world. In the Ottoman Empire, the Jews and the Christians would voluntarily choose to have their cases heard in the court of the Muslim judges because they knew that they would get a more fair result.
O Believers! We have to let that love of Islam grow in our heart. Because only if the love of Islam takes root in our heart can we pass it onto our children. Those who came before us, they had that love. They did not have that shame. They knew that their honor and nobility came only through their devotion to the Way of Allah and His Messenger (AS). And with their passion came the Help of Allah, although they were little in number, although they were weak, with that ashq, with that love, came the help of Allah. And with that help, they were able to shake the world.
Don’t think that what they went through was easy. They were tested. They were heavily tested. As Allah (SWT) says in the Holy Quran, BismillahirRahmanirRahim. Do men think that they will be left alone on saying, “We believe”, and that they will not be tested? We did test those before them, and Allah will certainly know those who are true from those who are false. (29:2-3).
Holy Prophet (AS) and his Sahabi e-Kiram, and his own Holy family, they were outcast, they were tortured, and they were driven out from their society. Muslims today are complaining about being marginalized in society. Rasulullah (AS) and his followers were beaten in the streets and kicked out from their own homes. And yet in that situation, they did not compromise their faith. And if you see today, there are millions of Muslims that Allah SWT is making them to go through that same test. That Allah SWT is making them to go through that same hard test that the Prophet went through, were beaten in the streets and kicked out from their own homes. There are millions. We are witness to that and we are witness in seeing that their faith never lessen. The Muslim’s faith never lessens because of the test of Allah. Just like the Holy Prophet (AS) and the Sahabi e-Kiram they never compromise their faith. The Quraysh came to the Holy Prophet (AS) and said, let’s make a deal; we will stop all these oppression, we will stop all these test, we will stop all these violence against you. Let’s make a deal. One year we will worship Allah, one year we will worship the idols. We’ll give you the keys to the Ka’aba, we will make you our chief, we’ll give you our daughters. Just stop preaching this Islam which is disrupting our economy and our society, and our position. This Islam that makes the slave to be equal to his master. This Islam that gives the rights to woman and to orphans. This Islam that says the Arabs is equal to the ajams. This Islam that believes that there is going to be a Hereafter and the Judgement day. Leave this Islam.
Which Muslim leader today would not take that deal? Which one? Which Muslim leader politically, religiously or spiritually, either in the name of economic development or inclusivity or tolerance or love will not take this deal? Which Muslim leader is not going to say, ‘That’s great. It’s interfaith. We all believe in the same god right? Let’s not talk about the details. Main thing is, we all believe. Let’s believe together. Which one?’ But Holy Prophet (AS), in the weakest state, not in his strongest state physically, in his weakest state, seeing his followers being beaten and tortured, being killed, the young ones and the old ones, the women and the children, he did not compromise. He said, By Allah, if they put the sun in my right hand and the moon in my left hand on condition that I abandon Islam, I will never abandon it, until Allah has made me victorious or I perish.’
In the most difficult times, the Holy Prophet (AS) and his companions they kept the highest hope in Allah (SWT). And for that hope and devotion, Allah raised them to the greatest honor known to any civilization.
In the Battle of Khandaq, the Quraysh came to destroy Islam, destroy Islam once and for all. They had almost won at Uhud, and so they came thinking that we will attack Madinah and finally get ourselves rid of the problem of the Muslims. Just like so many are thinking, we pulled down the Khilafat, we put the poison of wahhabisim inside that destroy them, and now when the terrorist they come out, that we have supported and we have trained them, now we have the right to say get rid of this Islam, and finally we will get rid ourselves of the problem of the Muslims.
Madinah was very vulnerable, and the Muslims were in a famine, they were starving, they were in starvation at this time. How many of us thinking that we are good believers, so good Muslims. How many of us willing to see our children in front of us starve, crying because they have not eaten. How many of us? Or how many of us will quickly say, ‘let’s compromise. It’s okay, Allah will understand.’ We have lost this. We have lost this passion. And the Muslims they were digging a trench, by the advice of Salman el-Farisi. They were digging a trench around Medina and they came to a big rock, a boulder that nobody could break. The Holy Prophet (AS) came and struck the rock with a pickaxe. They were preparing for war, they were preparing knowing that it is a big possibility the unbelievers are going to come to destroy them all, and they were trusting on this new war strategy that they have never tried before. Were they miserable like so many of us today? Were they miserable in that worst situation, like so many of us we are miserable because we have our refrigerator filled with food, because we have our closet filled with clothes, we have homes that we don’t even visit. We have everything that we want, yet we are still miserable. Were they miserable? They were under that oppression and under attack, to be completely killed at any moment. Were they miserable? No. They were celebrating. The men and the women, they were celebrating. It was like an Eid. The men were working, and they were working in light work clothes with the Holy Prophet (AS) and they were singing and they were laughing and they were preparing because spiritually, they were already in Paradise. Spiritually they have already given everything for the sake of Allah and they were ready for any outcome.
The Holy Prophet (AS) then came to that boulder. When he hit it the first time, a flash of light came and he said, SubhanaAllah, the keys of Syria have been given to me. Syria was a super power at that time. The Prophet (AS) was with a small group of people who did not even have enough to eat, and he says, ‘Allah has shown me that He has given the keys of Syria to me.’ He hit the rock again, and there was another flash. He said, ‘SubhanaAllah, the keys of Persia have been given to me.’ Persia was a bigger super power. ‘and Wallahi I see the white castle of Mada’in.’ He hit the boulder a third time and broke it, and he said, ‘ SubhanaAllah, I have been given the keys to Yemen- Wallahi, I can now see the gate of Sanaa.’
His followers, they did not doubt, they did become sad, they were not skeptical, they did not argue. They accepted. They believe. They were happy. Because Allah never breaks His promises. And the Prophet speaks the truth.
Nobody at that time believed that this small group of people were going to conquer the world. These men from the middle of the desert, ignored by history and empires, hatred by even their own relative. Yet with the Ashq for Allah and his Prophet in their heart, they went and they spread Islam. They did not take the riches. They gave it away. What they spread was the rule of Allah and justice in the world. And that prophesy of Holy Prophet (AS) came true step by step.
That sunnat of believing in Allah even when it is impossible, of defying every odd, of making huge goals while seeking the help of Allah, it continued throughout the history of Islam. Because one of the mistake that so many are making today, so called Imam and Sheykhs and Scholars, is that as if Islam began and stopped with the Sahabi e-Kiram, Islam came and stop with the Khulafa al-Rashiddin, that there is nothing to be learned for the next thousand years. One thousand years of the highest civilization the world has ever known, nothing is to be learned. This is wahhabism. But that success continued. And always it continues throughout the history of Islam. Always. One man, Ertugrul Gazi, the Chief of the Kayi Clan, he made a goal to take up the mantle of defending Islam. He came to the Seljuq Sultan with 400 soldiers and said, we are here to protect Islam against the Crusaders and the Mongols. O Believers! Understand that at that time, Islam was under a threat, a threat to completely eliminate and wipe out Islam and the Muslims from the world. From one side the Crusaders sought to destroy the religion, and from the other side, the Mongols were burning through the lands of Islam destroying everything they touched. But Ertugrul Gazi and his small band of believers came and said, with his 400 followers, we are laying down our lives for the service of Islam, And for that intention, Allah (SWT) honored the children of Ertugrul Gazi to found the Holy Ottoman Empire. The Ottoman Empire, which ushered in an era of peace and justice throughout the whole world that was never seen before, and never has been seen since.
As Allah (SWT) is saying in the Holy Quran, BismillahirRahmanirRahim. How many a little company has overcome a mighty host by Allah’s leave! Allah is with the steadfast. (2:249). Sadaqallahul Adzim.
The world looks hopeless today. But there are still those who have huge dreams for the sake of Allah. There are still those whom Allah loves and they love Allah and they have huge dreams for the sake of Allah. And we, those who call themselves Osmanli Naksibendis, we are living the dream of one of those Beloveds of Allah. We are living the dream of that one who came to America when he was a young man at the order of his Murshid with nothing in his pocket, without knowing anyone in this huge continent, to do nothing but to spread the Light of Islam in a new country, to prepare this world for the coming of Mahdi (AS). A young man who had already attained the title of Gazi for defending his homeland. A young man who came from a village of Light, a village where every person was a Friend of Allah. And that young man, he left everything he knew to come to a new land for the sake of Allah. That man, without knowing the language, without knowing anyone, that Friend of Allah, he is our Sheykh, Sahib el-Sayf Sheykh Abdul Kerim el-Kibrisi el-Rabbani (KS), made to represent the Sultanul Awliya Sheykh Maulana Muhammad Nazim adil el-Hakkani. And just as his grandfather, Sultan Mehmet Fatih Han said, I am going to take the title of the best general given by Holy Prophet, our Sheykh made an intention. He said, I am going to be from that group that will make the sun rise from the west, that will be with Mahdi (AS).
And he went through every difficulty. His brother died in his arms without warning. He went through poverty. He went through the Sunnah of Yusuf (AS) and was imprisoned for saying Allah. He was cast out by his family, he was cast out by those who were jealous of him. But he never deviated from his dedication. Why? Because he love Allah. He has made a promise to Allah. Because he had a goal and a vision. He has inherited an aim that has been passed down from every Prophet, every Sahabi, every Evliya. He has inherited an aim that all of history is waiting for. His father, Sayyid Haji Fuat Rabbani said to him before he passed, ‘Your grandfather waited, their grandfathers waited, I waited and we didn’t witness the appearance of Mehdi (AS). But there is a big chance you will be witness.’ And as our Grandsheykh Sultanul Awliya Sheykh Maulana Muhammad Nazim adil el-Hakkani has said, he will return with Mahdi (AS) on that day.
And Seyh Efendi’s goal, it was to prepare for that time. A time that all of history is holding its breath now, waiting for that moment to come. While the whole world is drowning in tyranny and disobedience to Allah, the spiritual world is preparing for the coming of Muhammad al-Mahdi (AS), the Inheritor of Rasulullah (AS) who is coming to fill the world with justice to all people, just as it is now filled with cruelty.
O Believers! Our grandfathers came before us and they work for the sake of Islam. They have preserved their nobility in the sight of Allah SWT. This is the time to become strong believers for the sake of Allah. Holy Prophet (AS) is saying, ‘A strong believer is better and is more beloved to Allah than a weak believer. (Muslim).’ We are not descended from weak men. We are descended from Hz Abu Bakr, Hz Umar, Hz Osman, and Hz Ali (KW). We are descended from Hz Hamza, the Lion of Allah. We are descended from Khalid ibn al-Walid. We are descended from Salahuddin and Alp Arslan. We are descended from Ertugrul Gazi, from Osman Gazi, from Sultan Selim, from Sultan Mehmet Fatih, from Sultan Abdul Hamid Han. We are the grandchildren of those whose Takbir shook the world. O Believers! Let the Takbir also rise from our throats in this Ahir Zaman.
Ramazan came and passed. We should stop from all our wrong actions, we should stop from all our wrong intentions, now that Ramazan has passed. We should not stop the progress we made in Ramazan. We should continue. We should continue to fight against to our ego and nothing else, and try to please our Lord. We should continue to try to talk in the footsteps of our Rasul (AS). We should continue to be in the association of our Sheykh. We should continue to strengthen the ties of our Jamaat. Let us be brothers and sisters in the Way of Allah; that brotherhood will remain even after the Judgment Day.
We are Ottomans. Our Sheykh is saying: We are Osmanli, we are pek sanli, we are Ottomans and we are very honored. Allah has honored us with that. So many dropped it today. So many are attacking the Ottomans also. They can attack in any way. It doesn’t matter. Allah keeps them high and they are high. And we are very honored holding them high and we are going to hold them high. We are not good for anything. We know that. What they did, it is impossible for us to do. But at least we say, “Ya Rabbi! We love them. We love what they did because they did it for Your sake and for Your Prophet’s sake.” If we hold that high, Allah will keep us high. If we drop it down, we are dropping ourselves down. Through history we are seeing from individuals to groups of people to nations, that when they kept the orders of Allah, Allah kept them high. As soon as they dropped it down, He took it away from them and He gave it to another nation. We must be the nominees to say, “We are the nominees, Ya Rabbi, trying to hold this very high. We are knowing our power that we have no power. We are very weak ones, very weak servants. We are asking support from You. If support is coming from You to us then we are the most strong ones. And don’t let us to deviate from the Sirat-ul Mustaqim.”
Ya Rabbi! In this Day of Eid, accept our intention. Ya Rabbi, please forgive us. Ya Rabbi, please help the Ummat. Ya Rabbi, please help those who are under the burden of oppression. Ya Rabbi, help them with a Divine Help. Ya Rabbi, let us to be from those who will be the helpers. Ya Rabbi, let us to be with the Helper of the Ummat, the Sahib al-Zaman, Hz. Mehdi (AS). Let us to be with our Sheykh. Let us to fulfill the history of Islam. Amin.
