All praises are due to Allah, Lord of the Universes. All praises are due to Allah, Who created mankind in Ahsani Taqwim, the Most Perfect Form. All praises are due to Allah, Who bestowed upon mankind Iman (faith), Aql (intelligence), and Haya’ (modesty). All praises are due to Allah Who created death and life to test which of you is the best in deeds- and He is the Exalted in Might, the Forgiving (67:2).
And may all peace and blessings be upon the one who is called Abdul Karim by the people of the Paradises, who is called Abdul Jabbar by the people of the fire, who is called Abdul Hamid by the Angels of Heaven, who is called Abdul Majid by the Angel Poets, who is called Abdul Wahhab by the Prophets, who is called Abdul Rahman by the jinn, who is called Abdul Qahhar by the demons, who is called Abdul Khaliq by the mountains, who is called Abdul Qadir by the seas, who is called Abdul Quddus by the fish, who is called Abdul Mughees by the insects, who is called Abdul Razzaq in the wilderness, who is called Abdul Salam by the hunting animals, who is called Abdul Mu’min by the four legged animals, the one who is called Abdul Ghaffar by the birds. (Narration of Ka’ab al-Akhbar).
May all peace and blessings be upon Sayyidina wa Mawlana Muhammad (AS). And may all peace and blessings be upon his blessed family and noble companions, especially upon the Khulafa-e-Rashideen, Hz. Abu Bakr el-Siddiq, Hz. Umar el-Faruq, Hz. Osman el-Ghani, and Hz. Ali el-Murtaza, and all those who follow them until the Last Day.
Ya Ayyuhal Mu’minoon! O Believers! Today is Yawm al-Jummah, the Day of Gathering. This is the Month of Zul Qaida. We are approaching to the Month of Hajj, the Month of Qurban, Zul Hijj. And during the Hajj, the believers who approach the Kaaba call out to Allah (SWT) saying, Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk. Here we are, our Lord, here we are. That is the attitude of the believer. Not just on Hajj, but at all times. To be present and ready in the service of his Lord. The saying of the believer, the saying of the Prophets, is Sam’ina wa Ata’na. We hear and we obey.
Hear and obey who? Allah (SWT) is telling us, saying: BismillahirRahmanirRahim. O you who have believed, obey Allah, and obey the Messenger, and obey your rightly guided leaders. (4:59). Sadaqallahuladzim. That is how we apply Sam’ina wa Ata’na in our lives. We can say the Shahadah, we can pray, we can fast, we can give zakat, we can go to the Hajj, but if we are not living according to Sam’ina wa Ata’na, then we are not complete. Even if we are doing everything right, if we do not hear and obey the Truthful Ones, then we are hearing and obeying only our nafs, our ego that is guided by sheytan. And they are the worst masters. Because they only lead us to destroy ourselves. Allah (SWT) is saying in Surah Yusuf, BismillahirRahmanirRahim. Verily, the ego commands you to evil. Sadaqallahuladzim (12:53).
If we are living according to we hear and we obey, we should ourselves every day- why am I here? And the only answer that a believer should have to that question is, “to please Allah SWT.” We should ask this question to ourselves honestly and say, “why am I here?” The answer will come from the heart very quickly. And if the answer is not “to please Allah,” then we should know that we are not good servants to our Lord. We are servants to something else. If our answer is “we are here for family, for a job, for this dunya, for ideology,” then we should know that our obedience is not to Allah. We don’t have time to be bad servants. We don’t have time to be disobedient. Because death can come to us at any time. We cannot escape death, non of us.
Once Azrail (AS), the Angel of death, appeared in the court of Sulayman (AS) and began to look very strongly at one person sitting there. And after a few moments, he vanished. The angel of death came in the form of a man, which he sometimes does. That man asked Sulayman (AS), “who is that person who was staring at me,” and Sulayman (AS) answered, “that is the Angel of Death.” The man got very frightened and said, “ya Sulayman, he is looking at me like he wants to take my life. Please, you have authority on the winds- have them take me to a mountaintop in India.” Sulayman (AS) granted that person’s request, and he was taken to that mountain. After the man had been taken away, Azrail (AS) came back into the majlis of the Prophet Sulayman (AS). So Prophet Sulaman asked, “ya Azrail, why were you staring at that man?” And Azrail (AS) answered: “I was staring at him because Allah (SWT) had ordered me to take his life on a mountain in India, yet he was sitting here in your gathering in Shaam.” O Believers! None of us can escape death. None of us can escape from Azrail (AS).
So we have to check ourselves every day. Did I obey the orders of Allah? We have to check ourselves. ‘I am 20, I am 30, I am 40, I am 50. Did I obey the Orders that Allah (SWT) gave to me up to this age? Or was I running away from servanthood.’ Allah (SWT) created us weak, yes. But if we turn to Him, we will gain the strength to be His good servants.
Our Sheykh, Sahib el-Sayf Sheykh Abdul Kerim el-Kibrisi el-Rabbani (KS) is telling us: Allah (SWT) is saying “With Me you will become strong. Turn your way to Me. Put one step forward to Me and I will make ten steps forward to you. Walk to Me and I will run to you.” Say, HasbinAllah wa ni’mal wakeel 100 times a day at least. That gives you power to understand what you are living for in this world and everything that you look at and everything that you see, you make your planning according to that then. Otherwise, your planning is according to your ego and your ego’s direction is to the Fire, it’s dragging you with it. We should not tell ourselves we are okay. We should not be so lazy with ourselves to say, well I was born Muslim, I keep a Muslim name, I’m okay. If our hearts are still busy with this dunya, we are not okay.
These words are not welcome in the masjids anymore. Because the agreement that has been reached in the masjids, and in the Muslim conventions, and in the MSAs today, it is, “don’t tell me that I’m wrong. We are all okay. You do what you want, I’ll call you okay. I’ll do what I want, you tell me I’m okay.” That is what has happened today. And when we don’t stand up for Truth, when we don’t oppose batil, then we fall into the mess that we’re in today. Anything goes. This religion is not an anything goes religion. This religion is the religion of Islam. And Islam means submission to the will of Allah.
People think they are geniuses today, saying, we are re-inventing Islam. We are making Islam a tolerant, humanistic religion. Seyh Efendi is giving the test of intelligence. Very simple test. He is saying, “How much intelligence do you have? Let’s test you. Let’s put a test to you. Are you letting the prayer time pass?” “Yes.” Then you don’t have that much intelligence because Holy Prophet (AS) is ordering us saying to us: ‘At every prayer time pray as if it is your last prayer, as if you are not reaching to the next prayer. Pray as if you are not going to be reaching to the next prayer.’ Very simple. Very simple question. Are we praying? Are we praying according to the timings? It looks so simple, but in reality, it is very deep. Are we praying, preparing ourselves for death. Is that prayer closing the dunya for us when we take that takbir?and is the ahirat opening to us? The prayer is the mi’raj for the believers but we only see a carpet in front of us. That prayer is more than that.
Nobody can deny the Salat. And Allah (SWT) is putting the Salat there saying, I am giving you a time to meet Me; are you there? If we are not doing that, then how can we claim to have a mustards seed of intelligence? But mankind became involved in the business of sheytan and the mess of Ahir Zaman. Becoming involved in trying to solve problems that are not their business. Becoming busy trying to turn this world into utopia. This world is not a paradise; it is dunya. It is a place of exile. The more we run after it, the more we run away from home. And the more we run away from home, the more we are going to sink into the sadness of the traps of this dunya.
Today, dunya is fooling everyone, especially 21st century millennial Muslims, making them think, we are the greatest people who ever came to earth. We are not. We are from the Muslims that have been stripped of the dignity and nobility that was the inheritance of our grandfathers for over one thousand years. If we think that this is the golden age of Islam, it is enough sign that we have been fooled. And our Sheykh is giving us advice to protect against that kind of delusion, saying: Don’t say, “I am this one and I am that one. I am doing this and I am doing that.” You are just another servant. Not obedient yet because obedient servant is that one who runs twenty-four hours to look, “What is the service of the Lord that is given to me to do? What do I have to do?” And he runs to do something that is going to give him benefit. Not selling himself for a couple of dollars of this dunya, selling his religion, selling his way that he is learning and going, no.
O Believers. The friends of Allah are saying, don’t get in the wagon of the unbelievers. If we sit too much with those who don’t believe in Allah and His Prophet, it is going to poison our hearts. We are Muslims. And our identity comes from being servants of Allah. The Friends of Allah are saying, Don’t have friendship, trust, extreme love with those ones who are not keeping their prayers. Say, ‘Selam aleykum‘ and walk away. Don’t sit with them, don’t eat with them and don’t take anything what they say to you because that is poison. It’s going to enter in your heart. Once you put that poison in your heart, slowly it’s going to start eating you and then one day you are going to say, “Eh, it’s okay. The things that they are doing that is opposing to the laws and the will of Allah, it’s okay. Who am I to judge? Allah is merciful. I should accept them.”
This religion is founded on Haqq against Batil. The Holy Prophet (asws) was offered the choice. They are saying, ‘we will make you to become the king.’ He refused. ‘We will make you to marry from our women so that you will be connected to every noble house.’ He refused. They said, ‘we will follow your religion, all of us will become Muslim but next year we will all become kafir. The following year we will become Muslim. This way we are balanced, we are equal.’ And the Holy Prophet (asws) said, ‘even if you give the moon on my right hand and the sun on my left, I will not abandon the truth.’ Muslims in 21st century, mashaAllah, more intelligent than their Prophet. We have to understand this. We have to put it in our heart. We are not saying that we are better. We are taking lesson and we are being careful to what is going to enter into our hearts.
These words, ‘it’s okay,’ they are the worst words for a believer. ‘It’s Okay.’ Everything is okay. Because they mean he lost his faith completely. Holy Prophet (AS) said: Whoever of you sees an evil, let him change it with his hand; and if he is not able to do so, then let him change it with his tongue; and if he is not able to do so, then with his heart- and that is the weakest of faith. (Muslim).
But what happens if the heart no longer sees evil as evil? Then it does not even have the weakest faith; it has no faith. O Believers! That is the challenge of this Ahir Zaman. From every side, our basic beliefs are being attacked. From every side, our basic sense of Right and Wrong are being assaulted. But that is the nature of Ahir Zaman. That is the nature of the age of confusion, of the fitnah of dajjal. And Holy Prophet (AS) warned us about this time saying: There will come a time when holding onto your Iman is like holding on to hot coals. (Tirmidhi). It will burn you, but you cannot drop it.
This is the second jahiliyya, and just like the first one, it is a time of testing. But it also a time of extreme honor. It is a test of whether or not we are believers. It is a test of whether or not we will stay true to “sami’na wa ata’na.” We must remain obedient to Allah, His Messenger, and our Rightly Guided Leaders. We cannot for a moment slip into being obedient to sheytan and the ego. Because that is the way of disaster.
Seyh Efendi is saying: Allah is saying to us, “These are the orders that I want. These are the conditions that I put for you. You are going to live according to these conditions. Anything that I am keeping high and showing value you are also going to keep it high and show value. Anything that I am ordering you to do, you are going to run to do. Anything that I am ordering you to stop from, you are going to run to stop from it. If you do it then you are going to win for your own self.”
That is the way of safety. That is the way of servanthood. Holy Prophet (AS) had so many names. But his most beloved name is Abdullah- The Servant of Allah. Nobility lies in servanthood. O Believers! We must run to be servants. Amin.
