Question: Hz Mevlana Rumi KS said that everyone has been made for some particular work and the desire for that work has been put in every heart. Can you elaborate this?

Yeah some people they insist on being donkey. We are saying you are not donkey, you are a horse, you are not donkey, you are a human being. ‘Ahh I want to be donkey,’ continuously. But we are saying you are not donkey. ‘No, I insist on  being donkey.’ Then what are you going to do? What more are we supposed to elaborate on? Because you are still not understanding that you are a donkey. Once you understand, ‘eh, I’m a donkey, do I want to be? No, I want to be something else.’ That’s the time you are going to change.

The desire for the work is there. But the heart, if you have so many other desires, it will drown that desire for that work. Because you have desires still for your heedlessness, you have your desire still for this dunya, you have a desire still, not letting go of your wrong habits. You still have a desire. That time the desire that Allah has put, it will be drowned. You are pushing it down. It’s trying to come up, you push it down. First we have to understand where are we, which level we are, which level you are. Not to say, I come into Tarikat, I’m very high level. I come into spirituality because I’m very spiritual. People who just come into Tarikat they say, ‘I want to be a Saint.’ Allah, Allah. Like Sheykh Effendi is saying, one of our Grandsheykh say, if you are not thinking that you are entering into seclusion because you want to save the world from your evil, you are still not prepared for seclusion. To understand the evil.

So what is our level? Once you understand, when you come in, your level, and everyone’s level, our level is in the toilet. Simple. You have any question, wondering about it, ‘I don’t know which maqam I’m at,’ I’m going to  tell you very easily, toilet. All in the toilet. That is our throne, that is our maqam. Because we are all carrying the toilet that is inside of us. You are understanding your level, ‘okay,’ you are saying, ‘I’m in the toilet.’ Then we give you a choice. You want to remain in the toilet or you want to come out. If you want to come out from that toilet station, then you cannot be acting with the behavior as if you are in the toilet. It cannot be. You have to understand that it is dirty, and you have to change. And when someone is saying, ‘don’t do that, that is a toilet behavior,’ you have to wake up, you have to try at least not to fall back into that over and over again. You understand?

Once you say, ‘I understand. I’m in that toilet, I have to clean like this, I have to clean like that,’ then you are getting ready for something. And in our way, it’ll still take some time to see what is the work. Because the work that you do for yourself  it is different. The work that you do for your family it is different. The work that you do for your Sheykh, for Allah is completely different. Don’t think that just because you come here and you do some work, you are thinking you are doing work for Allah’s sake. Allah doesn’t need that work. When you have a teacher, when you have a guide, it’s a little easier and a little harder. It’s easy because you will understand where you are and where you need to be and it is harder because now you have that responsibility and it is a long road. It is a long road. But, what choice do we have? Because at the end of the road is our Prophet (asws) waiting to greet us. It’s a long road. But at the end of the road is our Prophet (asws) to greet us, you are going to turn your back  to him? There is a short road, but the short road, the easy road is leading to Jahannam. You are going to run for it? Who is at the end? Whatever that is there at the end, whatever that you want, run for it. This much is enough. May Allah forgive me and bless you al-Fatiha.
