All praises are due to Allah, Lord of the Universes. BismillahirRahmanirRahim, There is nothing like Him, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing. (42:11). All Praise and Thanks are to Allah, the Lord of the Heavens and the Lord of the Earth and the Lord of the Worlds. His alone is the Majesty in the heavens and the earth, and He is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise. (45:36-37). Sadaqallahul Azim. All praises are due to Allah Who sent Sayyidina Muhammad (AS) as the Mercy to the Universes and the Master of Mankind.
And may all peace and blessings be upon Sayyidina Muhammad (AS), who is saying: I am the master of the children of Adam on the Day of Judgement, and it is no boast. In my hand will be the banner of Praise, and it is no boast. There will be no Prophet on that day, not Adam nor anyone else, except below my banner. I am the first that the earth will open up for and it is no boast. I am the noblest of the first and the last to Allah, and it is no boast. (Tirmidhi).
May all peace and blessings be upon him and upon his noble family and blessed companions, especially upon the Four Khulafa-e-Rashideen, Hz. Abu Bakr el-Siddiq, Hz. Umar el-Faruq, Hz. Osman el-Ghani, and Hz. Ali el-Murtaza, and all those who follow them until the Last Day.
Ya Ayyuhal Mu’minoon! O Believers! Today is the last Jummah of the Month of Safar, and insha’Allah ar-Rahman tomorrow night we will enter into the Month of the Rasulallah (AS), the Month of Rabiul Awwal. Insha’Allah ar-Rahman we are asking our Lord to let us to reach to pay respect and honor to the Mevlid of his Habib, Sayyidina Muhammad (AS).
O Believers, we are living in the Second Jahiliyya, in the Ahir of the Ahir Zaman. The end of the end of times. The whole world may be pretending that we have reached a new height of civilization, a rebirth of civilization- they can pretend, but that does not change the reality. The reality is that the darkness of oppression and tyranny, zulm, has covered, completely, the whole world. The reality is that mankind has reached the peak of his disobedience to his Lord. The reality is that the Muslims of today are losing their honor and selling their nobility for this dunya. But today, everyone claims to be upon guidance. Holy Prophet (AS) told us about this time, saying: “My Ummat will divide into seventy-three different groups. All of them will be in the Fire except for one, and that is the Jamaat, that is the majority.” It was said, “And who are they, Ya Rasulullah?” He (AS) responded, “The ones who follow that which I and my Companions are upon.” (Tirmidhi).
Our Sheykh, Sahib el-Sayf Sheykh Abdul Kerim el-Kibrisi el-Rabbani (KS) is opening it more saying, Ali (RA), karamallahu wajhah, was asking, “What is their sign, Ya Rasulullah, those people who will be on Firqa-i Najat, the one group that is going to stay on Sirat-ul Mustaqim?” Holy Prophet (AS) was saying to them, “They are following my sunnat and the sunnat of my Sahabis. They are following the footsteps of those people who have taught them the way and the lifestyle of the Holy Prophet (AS).” Of course, today everyone is claiming that they are from the Firqa-i-Najat. Anyone can make the claim- but there is a test for that which has been given by Rasulallah (AS) himself. Are you following the Sunnat of the Rasulullah (AS) and the Sunnat of his Sahabis? Or did you invent a new way, a new sunnat? The majority of people today are saying, ‘we know Islam. We understand Islam. We don’t need anyone to teach us. We have all the seven books of Hadith available on Google. We have the Holy Quran in all its recitations in the palm of our hands, and all of the translations, and all of the tafsirs in our phones. We have books in our libraries. We know everything by ourselves.’ And yet, with all this claimed knowledge, the world is becoming more and more of a hell and the people in the world are becoming more Ehli Naar, the people of fire. Is this knowledge making people to follow the Sunnah of the Rasulullah and of his Sahabis or is it making them to invent new ways to themselves?
Not all knowledge is good knowledge. Even the knowledge of Islam can be harmful if it is gained for the ego. Holy Prophet (AS) warned us of a time when people would use knowledge not to become closer to Allah but to pump up their own egos. We have reached to that time. He is saying (AS), ‘Do not seek knowledge in order to show off in front of the scholars, or to argue with the foolish, and do not choose the back seat in a gathering, due to thinking you know something for whoever does that, the Fire, the Fire awaits him.’ (Ibn Majah). And Holy Prophet (AS), he used to pray to be protected from knowledge that he did not benefit from. His dua was, ‘Ya Allah, I seek refuge with You from knowledge that is of no benefit, from a dua that is not heard, from a heart that does not fear (You) and from a soul that is not satisfied.’ (Ibn Majah). Understand that if he is praying for protection from these things together, they must be linked, they must be connected. When a man runs after knowledge that doesn’t benefit him, his dua will not be accepted, his heart will not fear Allah, and his soul will never be satisfied.
O Believers! A man can know all the knowledge of Islam but if he is not learning how to free his spirit and step on his ego, all that knowledge it is useless. It is more dangerous than useless, it becomes poisonous. So many Muslims today will think these words, they are wrong, they are kufr, they are shirk. But who is saying this? Hujjatul Islam, Imam Abu Hamid al-Ghazzali. Imam al-Ghazzali was the biggest ‘Alim of his time, he became the most famous lecturer in the Nizamiyya Madrasa in Baghdad, the Center of all learning. He knew all the sciences of Islam. And yet, his heart, his heart was not satisfied. He knew that this knowledge was not helping his spirit. His heart began to hurt him so much, that his mouth and tongue stopped moving when he was giving his classes and he could not speak.
He is saying in his own words that his heart was saying to him, ‘To the road! to the road! What is left of life is but little and the journey before you is long. All that keeps you busy, both intellectually and in dunya, it is nothing but hypocrisy and delusion. If you do not prepare now for eternal life, when will you prepare? If you do not now cut off these attachments, when will you cut them off?’ And where did he go? He went to the People of Real Knowledge. He went to the People of the Knowledge of Allah. He went to the Ehli Zikr. He went to the road of the Sheykhs. He went to the circle of dervishes. He is saying about the difference between the people of Tasawwuf and the people of outward knowledge, ‘It became clear to me’ he said, ‘that Tasawwuf knowledge can only be understood by experience, by tasting. What a difference there is between knowing the definition of health and satisfaction, together with their causes and their roots, and actually being healthy and satisfied!’ And this has been the way throughout the history of Islam.
Those who became the biggest scholars, they left that outward knowledge in order to obtain the real knowledge which brings satisfaction to the heart and to the spirit. One of the biggest scholars of the Ottoman Empire, Aziz Mahmud Hudayi, who was the Qadi of Bursa, left his position to become the murid of his Murshid, Sheykh Uftade Hz. What did his Sheykh say to him? He said ‘leave your position, leave your books, wear your judge clothes,’ the clothes that people used to give so much honor to, because it is the highest position, rank, of religion in the Ottoman capital of Bursa, ‘and go and sell liver in the streets.’ He said to Aziz Mahmud Hudayi, ‘then, you must clean the toilets.’ He said to Aziz Mahmud Hudayi, ‘you must get up before Fajr time and heat up my wudu water.’ Aziz Mahmud Hudayi, he knew all the knowledges of Islam, and he knew all the books of Islam. His Sheykh, by every appearance, was a simple man. But Sheykh Uftade Hz was not teaching Aziz Mahmud Hudayi knowledge that can be swallowed in books. He was teaching him the Divine Knowledge of knowing himself. He was teaching him the knowledge contained in the Hadith, ‘whoever knows himself, knows his Lord.’ And that knowledge does not come in a classroom, it does not come in a conference, it does not come in a resort. It comes through submission to a Living Guide, a Representative of Holy Prophet (AS).
Aziz Mahmud Hudayi, through that Real knowledge, he became one of the greatest Friends of Allah. He became the Sheykh of the Ottoman Sultans. He became a Sultan of Ahiret.
So, the Real knowledge of Islam is not contained in books. Books can be destroyed. The knowledge of Islam is contained in the behavior, in the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (AS) and the Sunnah of his Sahabis. Anyone can call themselves Ahlu Sunnah wal-Jamaah. But Ahlu Sunnah wal-Jamaah has been defined by Holy Prophet (AS). And he has defined it for the end of times too. He said, ‘Islam started as a strange thing, and will return as a strange thing, so my glad tidings for the strangers.’ And someone asked, ‘Who are the strangers, Ya Rasulallah?’ He (AS) said, ‘Those who fix what people have broken in my Sunnah.’ (Tirmidhi). One of the biggest Sunnats of the Holy Prophet (AS) and of his Sahabis that has been forgotten today is having submission, having obedience, having muhabbat toward a living representative of the Holy Prophet (AS). That is how Islam has functioned and survived for fourteen hundred years. That is how Muslims they have made progress for fourteen hundred years. And the dishonorable state of the Ummat today is rooted in this problem; that the Muslims, they don’t want to follow anybody. The Khilafat, they have been removed. The Sultanate has been removed. In so many countries, the Tarikats and the Sheykhs were banned. The enemies of Islam wanted to take this spirit of being a jamaat, of following a leader, of living for a common purpose, the submission to a Guide for the Pleasure of Allah, out of the Muslims. And that is what has happened today. Two billion Muslims, completely headless and completely heedless, weak, humiliated. Without any power.
That is why the scholars of today, majority are selling out Islam. That is why the Muslim countries are betraying each other. That is why this Ummat cannot stand up on its two feet because a body without a head cannot stand up, cannot function.
O Believers! We must seek those who are Rightly Guided. We must seek those who are following the Holy Prophet (AS), those who are calling us to Allah (SWT), those who are fixing the broken sunnats of the Holy Prophet (AS). Not breaking the laws of Allah and breaking the sunnah to fit into the society today, to fit into the ideologies of today, to fit into the regimes and the governments of today, and the scholars, those who have the mouths, those who have the power they are no longer standing up for haqq but they are bending down before Batil, breaking this religion, for what? For dunya? We’re not even getting the dunya. We must be with those who are leaving everything and calling people to the remembrance of Allah. That is safety to us in this Ahir of the Ahir Zaman. The Holy Prophet (AS) is saying, our Sheykh said to us, ‘Safety at that time is my Ahlil Bayt. Run to them. Be around them. They are like the ship of Nuh (AS). You are going to find safety. There is no other safety.’ If we take these words seriously- it is very serious. It is up to you if you take it seriously or if you are just putting it through one ear and bringing it out from the other side. But whoever believes, whoever runs, whoever tries, they may find safety. Whoever doesn’t believe, there is no safety to them.
Ya Rabbi, in this last Jummah of Safar, we are asking for safety. We are asking to be with the people of safety. We are asking to be with the people whom You love. We are asking to be with our Sheykh, dunya and ahiret, insya’Allah. May we also run to fix the broken sunnats, Ya Rabbi. May we be the strangers in these last days, Ya Rabbi. May we be welcomed by You and Your Prophet, Ya Rabbi. Do not separate us from our Sheykh. Amin.
