Which way should I follow to leave being affected negatively by every event?

Question: I cannot leave being a pessimist and being affected negatively from every event. I want to get rid of this habit. Which way should I follow to fix this? I didn’t submit to any Tariqat yet.

If you are sick, it is important to go to a doctor. Especially if you are sick and you are trying out this medicine and that medicine and it is not really working, you need to go to a doctor. People have spiritual sicknesses, maybe they are pessimists or they are negative or they are depressed, now you need to go to a doctor. You need to go to a spiritual doctor. The way that you’re going to submit to your doctor, you have to submit to your spiritual doctor too. You don’t question your doctor. The doctor says, ‘take this,’ he’s going to write something, and he says ‘take this; I’m going to prescribe this.’ I don’t see anyone fighting with the doctor; ‘wait, what is it you are prescribing me? How do you know this is it?’ questioning him, questioning his lineage, questioning everything. No, you take. You submit to the doctor.

But people question their spiritual doctors all the time. That’s why people are getting more sick. The reason now, to leave all of that to do what? To find Allah? Welcome to you. You say, ‘I just want to be normal,’ we say maybe this sickness now it is a mercy to you. Because don’t you know Allah (SWT) is saying, the sign that Allah (SWT) does not love that person, He does not even give that person a toothache, to think about Him. Maybe it is a mercy. So many people, they don’t have anything affecting them, they’re very far away from their Lord. So the whole point now is for the sake of Allah. If you don’t have that intention, make it to be that intention, insyaAllah ar Rahman. Then follow that doctor. Listen to him.

People who are sick, sometimes they say you have to go to emergency room. You have to wait, you have to be patient, they call it emergency room in this country but it’s not emergency. They make you wait three, four, five, six hours. Emergency means right away, but they make you wait for six, seven, hours. Allah Allah. Very unusual. So, you may be asked to wait too by the spiritual doctor. You have to wait. Maybe the doctor is going to say, now you have to stay in the hospital. For a couple of days you have to stay. Maybe the doctor is going to say, you have to take this medicine this time and this time, not outside of this time. You cannot just do anything you want. He may say, take this medicine only for this amount of days. Antibiotics, they are saying seven days, you cannot skip it, no? Two weeks? So the spiritual doctor may say ‘you need to stay here.’ Forty days, seventy days, do nothing. What am I doing? It doesn’t matter. Don’t be concerned with the doctor. Whatever he’s going to do to you, you will not understand. Even if he explains to you everything you will not understand. Just as, do you think a medical doctor, he explains everything about the medicine, about your condition, you’re going to understand?

So he may give you different prescriptions. Now, your responsibility is to trust that one. Then he may say, ‘remove yourself from your situation, you have to be here for a while.’ You have to follow. That time it is going to be easier. More you are going to stand up and fight and resist that, more difficult it is going to be for you and, as Mawlana Rumi is saying, the journey of one day is going to take you a hundred years. I’m paraphrasing.

So, follow that one. It doesn’t matter now, whatever your heart is going to pull. I’m not trying to pull people through our way or his way or her way, no. That time your heart must pull you. You make the decision. May Allah make it easy for you. Selam aleykum wa rahmatullah. Fatiha.
