All praises are due to Allah Who took His Servant (Muhammad (AS)) at night from Masjid al-Haram (in Mecca) to Masjid al-Aqsa (in Quds), whose surroundings We have blessed, to show him of Our Signs. Verily He is All Hearing, All Seeing. (Surah Isra, 17:1).
And may all peace and blessings be upon The Light of those brought near, the Friend of the poor ones, the Master of the humans and the jinn, the Prophet of the Two Holy Places, the Imam of the Two Qiblas, Our Means to Allah in the Two Realms, the Master of Qaba Qawsayn, the Beloved of the the Lord of the Two Easts and the Two Wests, the Grandfather of al-Hasan and al-Huseyin, Our Master, Abul Qasim Sayyidina Muhammad ibn Abdullah, a Nur from the Nur of Allah. O you who seek the Light of his beauty, send blessings and the highest salaam on him and his family! (Salat al-Taj). Allahumma Salli wa Sallim wa Barik Alayh wa Ala Aalihi wa Sahbihi wa Sallim.
And may peace and blessings be upon his noble family and blessed companions, especially upon the Four Friends of Truth, the Khulafa-e-Rashideen, Hz. Abu Bakr el-Siddiq, Hz. Umar el-Faruq, Hz. Osman el-Ghani, and Hz. Ali el-Murtaza, and all those who follow them until the Last Day..
Ayyuhal Mu’minoon! O Believers! Welcome to you on this Holy Day of Jummah, in the Holy Month of Rajab Shahrullah, on the eve of the Holy Night of Miraj. Today is the Last Jummah of this month of Rajab. We are asking our Lord, Allah (SWT), to accept whatever good we have tried to do in this month, and to forgive us for our shortcomings. He is the Sultan, and we are His servants.
Allah (SWT) does not love those who act arrogantly and stubbornly. Allah (SWT) is recording eternally in the Holy Quran that Hz. Luqman (AS) said to his son: BismillahirRahmanirRahim. “And do not turn your face away from people with pride, and do not walk around puffed up with pride. Indeed, Allah does not love any arrogant boaster. And be moderate in your walking, and lower your voice – the most ugly of voices is the braying of donkeys.” (Surah Luqman, 31:18-19). SadaqallahulAdzim.
That arrogance, that ugliness, it has infected the people of our time. And this arrogance is giving rise to the worst ignorance and darkness the world has ever seen. Hz. Muhammad ibn al-Husayn ibn Ali (RA) said: “The heart of a person is never cursed with the slightest bit of arrogance except that his intelligence and sanity is decreased because of that in accordance with how much of that arrogance has entered his heart.” (Ihya Ulum al-Din). He is saying that the person who is arrogant, he will be cursed, and his intelligence, and his common sense, it will go down depending on how much arrogance he has in his heart. This is the great grandson of the Holy Prophet (AS).
Our problem, the problem of Muslims in this century, is that their arrogance has given birth to a total and complete ignorance. That ignorance comes because man believes himself to know everything. And when a man thinks he knows everything, he does not think he needs to correct himself, and he thinks that he has nothing to learn. And when he reaches that condition, his intelligence dies, his faith dies, and his modesty dies. That is what has happened today. Real knowledge, it leads a man to know that he knows nothing. The great Imam Sufyan el-Thawri (RA) said: “Knowledge is three hand-spans: the first it gives birth to arrogance, the second gives birth to humility, and in the third, you realize nothing.” There is only three movements of knowledge. First one, is that you will be arrogant with that knowledge. And the second one, you will realise and you will become humble, and in the third one, you will realise that you know nothing.
When you know nothing, that time you are ready to learn everything. When you realize that you know nothing, you understand that you are in need. As our Sheykh, Sahib el-Sayf Sheykh Abdul Kerim el-Kibrisi el-Rabbani (KS) is saying, that is when you come with an empty cup. He is teaching us, through sohbet the nominees of paradise will learn something. “People who are nominees learn something. They take that and apply it to their lives. If the same sohbet is given every night then the murid must take lesson every night from that sohbet. So every night the murid must come to the association with an empty cup, not thinking that he is knowing something. Whatever he learned tonight must be put in his bucket there to bring his cup empty again to fill up a fresh one. If you are coming here with a cup half-filled with water then you can only get half a cup. If you come here with a full glass then you come with nothing. Whatever you come with, is what you take back. You didn’t get anything, you have to bring that cup empty. That cup, it is your heart. You have to come empty, saying, ‘tonight i’m gong to fill this up again.’ Maybe that night, secrets will be given that fits to your heart only. If you miss it then, goodbye, you miss the train or that may come again one year later or seven years later. You have to wait again for a long time because you have lost your chance.
This attitude of coming empty that our Sheykh is teaching us. This is the attitude of the Sahabi e-Kiram. The problem today is people are not learning about the lifestyle of the Sahabi e-Kiram. They are reading Quran themselves, reading hadiths and taking from that by themselves, denying Quran by themselves, denying hadiths by themselves, because they don’t give any importance to the Sahabi e-kiram and what the Prophet says, from those who took from the Sahabi e-Kiram and those who took from those who took from the Sahabi e-Kiram. They are not taking from this chain that is leading back all the way to the Prophet (AS). They have lost Islam completely.
The Sahabis, they were showing that they had empty cups to the Holy Prophet (AS). Whenever he would speak to them or ask them something, they would say, ‘Allah and His Prophet, they know better.’ The Sahabi e-Kiram they were not ignorant. They were the most intelligent people. And that intelligence made them to understand that all their knowledge was reaching to them thru the Holy Prophet (AS), and all the knowledge that they have, compared to what the Prophet has, is nothing. And that submission to the knowledge of the Holy Prophet gave them honor in dunya and in ahiret. that is what happened to Hz Abu Bakr as-Siddiq after the Mi’raj. When the Holy Prophet (AS) came back from the Mi’raj, he began to tell the people what had happened. And Abu Jahil, the enemy of Rasulullah (AS), the father of ignorance, not because he did not have knowledge, but because he chose to be ignorant of the knowledge coming from Allah, Abu Jahil was so happy with evil happiness when he heard about the Isra’ and the Mi’raj. Because with his dunya intelligence he thought nobody, no one is going to believe this. They are a people who does not even believe in Paradise. They don’t believe in Jahannam. These are the people who don’t believe that the dead is going to come back to life, these are the people that they don’t believe that there is going to be an afterlife. So, he thought that nobody is going to believe that the Prophet (AS), in one night, through the blink of an eye, in a time inside of time, and a space inside of space, he went through all the seven skies and the seven Paradises, reaching out to kaba kausain.
So he called all the people to the Ka’aba. Holy Prophet (AS) told them about the Mi’raj, and those ignorant and arrogant ones they laughed and they made fun of the Holy Prophet. Some of them ran to Hz Abu Bakr house and said, ‘did you hear what your friend is saying now? He is saying that he went to Quds and to Paradises in one night!’ Hz Abu Bakr Siddiq (RA) said, ‘if he has actually said this, he is telling the truth. I believe him when he says even more amazing things. He says he received revelations from Allah and I believe him.’ Hz Abu Bakr, he hurried to the Masjidil Haram and heard the Prophet (AS) telling about the mi’raj. So many people who had accepted Islam they left because they could not believe in the mi’raj. The unbelievers were standing there joking and laughing at the Holy Prophet (AS), but Hz Abu Bakr, the second of the two in the cave, he kept saying, ‘Ya Rasulullah, I believe you. You always tell the truth. Ya Rasulullah, I believe you. You always tell the truth. Ya Rasulullah, I believe you. You always tell the truth.’ And from this submission and faith in the Holy Prophet (AS), Siddiqul Akbar (RA) was given his title.
We must ask ourselves, have we inherited something of that kind of faith from the Sayiddul Evliya, Hz Abu Bakr as-Siddiq, or have we inherited something of sheytan who said ‘why’ and ‘I know better!’? The faith of Hz Abu Bakr will bring you into the sohbet of Rasulullah (AS), the faith of sheytan will get you kicked out from the Divine presence. We are entering into the mi’raj tonight, insyaAllah ar-Rahman. Today’s Muslims their heart it became dead. They can talk about that Holy night when the Holy Prophet (AS) was taken to Quds in the blink of an eye on the Buraq, when he led 124 000 Prophets in prayer at Masjidil Aqsa, when he ascended to the seventh Heavens, when he went beyond Sidratul Muntaha, when he was in the Divine Presence in Kaba Kausain, they can talked about it like it was nothing. They have been so tricked by Sheytan that they can say, ‘brother, this is just mi’raj, don’t make a big deal out of it.’ And some are saying, ‘well, it is only farz to believe in the Isra’ to Quds, it is not farz to believe in the mi’raj.’ May Allah protect us from this kind of sheytanic understanding of the ahir zaman.
Especially in our Jamaat, we want to follow Hz Abu Bakr who said, ‘ Ya Rasulullah, whatever you say, I believe you.’ And the Holy Prophet (AS) in that night of mi’raj, he came to the Divine Presence, like an empty cup. As Allah SWT is describing in Surah al-Naj: BismillahirRahmanirRahim. “By the star when it goes down, your companion is neither astray nor being misled, nor does he speak of his own desire. It is no less than a revelation revealed, taught to him by one mighty in power, full with wisdom, and he rose to his true form. While he was in the highest part of the Horizon, then he approached and came closer and was at a distance of two bows length or even nearer. And he, Allah, revealed to His servant, what he revealed. The heart did not lie about what it saw. Will you then argue with him about what he saw?” Sadaqallahul Adzim.
Subhanallah. Alhamdulillah. These are verses for people who sit and reflect and think. These are the verses for those who have a guide, to teach them. Look, when Allah SWT is talking about that station of Kaba Kausain (two bows length), how is He describing the Holy Prophet (AS). He is calling him a servant, Abd, because Holy Prophet (AS) came to Allah SWT as a servant. And Allah SWT made that servant to become the Padishah of everything in creation.
BismillahirRahmanirRahim. “He revealed to His servant what He revealed.” That is the knowledge that Allah SWT gave to the Holy Prophet (AS), and that is a special knowledge. That is a knowledge between the Habib and the Mahboob, between the lover and the beloved, between the Ashiq and the Mashooq, between the Talib and the Matlub. The ignorant and the arrogant, they cannot even imagine that knowledge. Those who do not believe in mi’raj, they cannot have that knowledge. Those who are not trustworthy, they cannot carry that knowledge. But that knowledge has been passed.
Holy Prophet (AS), he has been veiled from this physical world, but he pass that knowledge. As he (AS) said, ‘whatever is in my heart, i’ve poured into the heart of Hz Abu Bakr Siddiq.’ That knowledge has been passed from trustworthy one to trustworthy one. If we think we know something, if we think we have nothing to learn, if we do not submit ourselves, we will not be able to sit in that sohbet of the truthful ones. But if we follow one who is connected to the Holy Prophet (AS), we will learn the knowledge that we need. We will learn the knowledge that is going to save us, our dunya and ahiret.
Our Sheykh, SahibulSaif Sheykh Abdul Kerim, he is teaching us. We are following his way, we are following the Naksibendi way which is the Siddiq way. The way that is coming from Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (RA), is reaching to our time. We must correct ourselves, especially in these days and especially in these nights. We must leave the heedlessness aside, we must leave the wrong egoistic desires aside, the wrong egoistic ways aside, and we must ask from our Lord Allah SWT, ‘Ya Rabbi, we are asking forgiveness for every shortcoming that we are doing. We know that we have not reach anywhere. All things that we are doing do not fit to Your Divine presence. Accept this weak service. Make us the worthy ones, the good ones, and count us amongst those ones. Amin. We must ask. this is one thing also that the nation, the ummat has lost. It is not asking. We used to go to the masjid and see old people sitting for hours, opening their hands, crying and asking. When we were young we were saying, why these men are crying so much and asking. What are they asking for, what do they want? They didn’t want anything worldly. They are correct ones who spent all their lives in the masjid. That’s what we knew. They were still sitting over there for hours and hours, asking and crying. This is what we have lost. Sheytan is fooling us. Sheytan is saying to us, ‘the mercy of Allah is there, so don’t worry.’ Then Allah is saying to us through another ayat, ‘that sheytan comes to you with the mercy of Allah. Don’t be fooled by that. You have to do what is for you. You must carry what have been given to you. If you are not carrying that, then you have no right to be expecting the mercy of Allah because you are not asking and you are not preparing.
Men may do all kinds of wrong things, men may do all kinds of wrong things, but if his heart is in the right way, and he is trying his best all the time, going out doing wrong things and coming to the presence of Allah, saying, ‘ya Rabbi, I am a weak one, please forgive me.’ That one may expect and wait for mercy. InsyaAllah, may Allah make us to be those ones who are expecting and waiting for mercy.
O Believers, tonight is the Mi’raj night, insyaAllah, we should run to ask for our Lord, we should run to show our weakness to our Lord, we should run and empty our hearts, empty ourselves from our wrong characteristics and the pain of drowning in dunya and we should ask our Lord for help. InsyaAllah, we should run to Allah SWT so we can expect and wait for His mercy, through the wasila of His habib, through the wasila of their beloved ones. Amin.
