Are all seafood halal?

BismillahirRahmanirRahim

Question: I wanted to ask about food, about seafood, if all of them are halal.

Seafood? Not all. Dolphin, we don’t eat. We don’t like to eat lobster also, because of the way that it is killed, and other reasons also.

Now, because we are in a spiritual way, if there are a thousand things that we can eat, because you are in the spiritual way you are not going to say ‘great, I’m going to have a thousand things to eat.’ You understand? You’re going to say ‘eh, only one or two is enough. It’s enough.’ Although now, it is all Halal, but according to Tarikat, now, as Sheykh Effendi used to say, our Grandsheykh says, just to have anything that you want, that is a sin enough. Anything that you want, and you get it, it is sin enough.

This is a spiritual way, meaning that if everything is open for you and you say ‘I’m going to get everything too,’ it’s not showing that you have any control. It is when a thousand things are given to you ‘this is Halal? Huh, okay. But it’s not. Really, for me, only one or two I can take. Everything else I have to share.’ Which is why they asked, those ones who were jealous of Hz Abu Hanifa (RA), Imam ul-Azam, okay? We are following that Imam. We are Hanafis. Ahli Sunnah is divided into four major Imams, and they are taking from the Quran and the Hadith, and they are looking at everything and making it proper, one way to reach to the Prophet. There are four major Ways, but he is the greatest. But people were jealous of him, they always want to say ‘oh, this is wrong, this is wrong, this is wrong. This is wrong.’ You know, just like those ones who say ‘we have a problem, we have a problem, we have a problem, we have a problem’ instead of trying to get behind the mind of your Sheykh then. Isn’t that much better, to say ‘I wonder what he’s going to do with this.’ Don’t go behind your brain. Go behind the brains of those ones that you are following. See with their eyes. Maybe you are going to see something that you have never seen before. Not maybe. Definitely.

So they asked Imam Abu Hanifa about zakat. He is explaining, ‘according to our way it is like this, like this, like this. One out of every forty.’ Then they want to catch him, hah, Imam Abu Hanifa is saying ‘for my followers, it is one out of every forty.’ Then they say ‘hah, that means you, you are different now,’ they are saying to him. He says ‘yes. My zakat, my Shariat, it is different.’ ‘Oh, then this is bida’at, da, da, da,’ they are saying to him. He says ‘you cannot carry, anyway,’ he says to them, ‘what I put on myself.’ Then they get very excited, just like today, they want to catch everything that is a bida’at, they say ‘this much be a bida’at.’ They said ‘what is your zakat now?’ He says ‘my zakat, it is everything belongs to Allah’s sake. Everything. Not one out of forty. Forty out of forty.’

Because now we are following the way of Hz Abu Bakr as-Siddiq, aren’t we? What did he do? He says ‘everything in the way of Allah.’ And Prophet saying, Aleyhi salatul wa salam, ‘what about your wife and your children?’ Understand his reply, Hz Abu Bakr’s reply is always very subtle. He is saying ‘I left Allah and His Messenger.’ Do you understand what that means? Then he is saying ‘when I give everything up, I own Allah and His Messenger. I own them. Then that time, I can give to my wife and my children Allah and His Messenger.’

We have a long way to go. We have to learn, insyaAllah. May Allah forgive me. Selam Aleykum.  It should be enough, understand? It is up to you, whatever that you are comfortable with.
