Question: When Hz Ayub (AS) was tested and he felt the pain only when he put back the leech that fell. Then Allah (SWT) says that with whatever test was given to him the needed patience was also given but when he put the leech back he did that to himself. How are we to take a lesson from this? How do we know the actions we make is going to hurt us?
When you are ready to understand yourself more deeper, that is the time that you are ready to take a guide. If you are still playing games with yourself and blaming others and not blaming yourself, you’re not ready.
So to know how you yourself you’re damaging yourself by yourself, that is the time you must find a guide, and the guide is going to guide you, step by step, saying, ‘why are you doing this?’ ‘Oh, I only want to help others.’ They say, ‘who told you to help? Who do you think you are that you’re so helpful? Do you have permission?’ Ah! They’re saying, ‘what are you doing?’ ‘Well, this one is like this, I have to wash this one up.’ ‘Who are you? Do you have permission? Do you have the authority, do you have the knowledge to do that?’ No. Then you are only hurting yourself. ‘What are you doing?’ ‘I’m punishing myself.’ ‘You are following us, are we punishing you?’ ‘No.’ ‘Why are you punishing yourself?’ ‘Well, I’m supposed to think that I am the worst person.’ ‘So what do you do?’ ‘Well I sit down and I say I’m the worst person,’ Huh, that is the laziest, cheapest way.
Because Tarikat, as in Islam, everything has to be an action, because we’re living in a world of action, there is what? Cause and effect. That you have your rukun of Iman is not enough, you have to have the rukun, the principles of Islam. Correct or no? You cannot just believe and you do nothing. You say, ‘I believe in Allah, amantu billahi wa malaikatihi wa kutubihi wa rusulihi wal yawmil akhiri,’ you believe in all of this but you don’t pray, you don’t fast, you don’t give sadaqa, you don’t do this, you don’t do nothing. That’s not Islam, that’s maybe other religions, that’s not Islam. So it is an action. Who is going to tell you what action to take if you are in this way to clean yourself? It is the doctor, not you. Doctor may say, ‘take this one pill.’ You say, ‘I take one pill it helps, so if I take five pills it’s going to help me even better.’ No one ever thinks that, no one ever thinks that. Everyone says, ‘I must go according, if I go less or more, it cannot be.’ But those who are following guides, they’re taking their guides very cheaply. It cannot be like that, should not be like that.
So now you’re saying, ‘I’m just going to sit down, I’m going to beat myself up saying, I’m the worst one, worst one,’ It’s not that, that is not the way, it’s so easy to do that and it is damaging to do that and your ego is going to trick you and your sheytan is going to trick you, because you’re not doing anything. You really feel that you’re very dirty, that you need to punish your ego? You really want to punish your ego? You really think that you’re the worst person? Really? ‘Yes, yes.’ Okay. You see that one? That one? ‘Yeah.’ That one that you don’t like? ‘Hmmm.’ Go kiss his hand. ‘Hmmmmm, no!’ Then you think you’re better than that one, finish.
So any time you’re saying that, ‘oh, I’m the worst,’ to test whether it’s real or not, say, who do you hate the most? Then say, can you imagine helping that one? Can you imagine helping that one, and then that one smacks you? Not that you help that one that you don’t like, you think you’re a saint because you step on your ego to help that one that don’t like you. What if he takes your thing and he smacks you, what are you going to do? Think, just think, don’t even do it yet, think, okay? Then slowly go to that way. Because now I was going to say ‘clean toilet,’ but clean toilet is so easy. Because you’re not dealing with another person.
Our problem is not with these things, our problem is with a person always, isn’t it? It’s with a person. This one said, this one said, this one say, this one didn’t say, this one did this. So think, then try to fix it. During the Holy Prophet (AS)’s time, the Prophet was saying, ‘what would you do,’ he says to the Sahabi-e-Kiram, ‘you do something good to someone, and that person does something bad to you?’ The Prophet is asking, ‘would you help that one?’ Some saying, most saying, ‘yes, we will help that one.’ And he says, ‘okay, you help that one, and then he does bad to you, will you still help him when he needs help next time?’ Half saying yes, half saying no. And the Prophet (AS) says, ‘so you help him, again, and again he does bad to you, would you still help him?’ Not a single one raised their hand except for Hz Ali. And the Prophet says, ‘so you help him, and again he does bad to you, and another time he needs your help and you’re the only one who can help him, would you help him?’ Hz Ali says, ‘yes.’ Prophet repeat that question, he says yes, Prophet repeat that question, he says yes, and Hz Ali (KW) is saying, ‘it is known to you ya Rasullullah if you asked me that question until Judgment Day, I would still help that one.’ That one is Ahle Bayt, of course. They never complain.
This is the way of the Ahle Bayt, don’t you know? This is the way of the Sahabi-e-Kiram.
So, we should take lesson, this is not nice words for us to just think and then to, ‘ahhh,’ this is, put it where you really need it. May Allah forgive me insyaAllah, may we take these words of our Prophet and of all his beloved ones, may this be our guide in our lives, may we not be guided by our own ego. Al-fatiha.
