Ya ayyuhal mu’minun al hadirun ittaqullaha ta’ala wa ati’uh inna allaha ma allathina-ttaqaw wallathina hum muhsinun. Alhamdulillahi Rabbil Alameen. Wa Salatu wa Salamu ala Ashrafil Ambiya’i wa Imam al-Mursaleen Sayyidina wa Sayidinna Mawlana Muhammadin wa ala alihi wa sahbihi ajmain.
Alhamdulillahi Rabbil Alameen. Wa Salatu wa Salamu ala Ashrafil Ambiya’i wa Imam al-Mursaleen Sayyidina wa Mawlana Muhammadin wa ala alihi wa sahbihi ajmain. All praises are due to Allah, Lord of the Universes. Allah (SWT) says in the Holy Quran, in Surah at-Tawbah: “Now there has come unto you a Messenger from amongst yourselves. It grieves him that you should perish. He is full of concern for you. For the believers, he is full of pity, merciful. But if they turn away, then say: “Allah is Enough for me. There is no ilah except for Him. In Him I have put my trust, and He is the Lord of the Tremendous Throne.” (9:128-129).
May all peace and blessings be upon our Master Sayyidina Muhammad (AS). When Hz. Ali el-Murtaza (RA) was asked about the Salawat that is contained in the ayat, “Innallaha wa mala’ikatahu yusalluna ala’Nabi,” he (KW) said: “At your service and obedience, O my Lrod! May the prayers of Allah, the Good and Merciful, the Near Angels, the True Ones, the Martyrs, the Saliheen, and anything that glorifies You, O Rabbal Alameen, be upon Muhammad ibn Abdullah, the Seal of the Prophets, the
Master of the Messengers, the Imam of the People of Taqwa, and the Messenger of the Lord of the Worlds, the Witness, the Giver of Good News, the One Who calls people to You by Your Permission, the Light Giving Lamp, may all peace and blessings be upon him.” Amin. (Shifa’ of Qadi Iyad).
May peace and blessings be upon him and upon his noble family and his blessed companions, especially upon the Four Khulafa-e-Rashideen, Hz. Abu Bakr el-Siddiq, Hz. Umar el-Faruq, Hz. Osman el-Ghani, and Hz. Ali el?Murtaza, and all those who walk in their footsteps until the Last Day. May peace and blessings be upon the Mashayikh of the Tariqatul Aliyya, and may peace and blessings be
upon the Padishahs of the Devletil Aliyye. May Allah raise their stations until the Last Day.
O Believers! Allah caused us to enter into this world, and He will cause us to leave this world. The door that leads out of this world is death, and that door leads us to Ahiret Life. Sahib el-Sayf is saying: “The most important life is the Akhirat life. You have not been created for the world’s life. We have been created for the Akhirat life, the hereafter life.”
The Way of the Sheykhs, of the Spiritual Masters, is to prepare us to walk through the door of death and find safety on the other side. Tarikat is for people of intelligence. Tarikat is for people who have finished with the excitement and the glitter of the world, of this dunya. It is for people who have seen the ugly face of dunya and who say, “how can I leave this world and return to my Real Home, the place that I am homesick for? How can I leave this world and reach to the company of those that I am longing for? How can I leave this world and return to the Presence of my Beloved.” Sahib el-Sayf is explaining this, saying: “Tarikat is to make a person to keep his face towards the Qibla, to prepare him to his destiny where he is going and to be ready always. And the only way to be ready for that is to have the love of Allah and the love of the Prophet (AS) in your heart more than anything else. If you don’t have the love of Allah and His Prophet (AS) in your heart more than anything else then you are not ready for Akhirat life yet. That means you still have attachments to this world. Something is holding you to this world. So you don’t want to go where your place is. That’s dangerous.”
Allah (SWT) created Love. And Allah (SWT) He explained what Love is. And Allah (SWT) explained Love in the Holy Quran when He said, BismillahirRahmanirRahim, “Say to them, (Ya Muhammad), if you love Allah, then follow me. Allah will love you and forgive your sins. And Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.” Sadaqallahuladzim (3:31). This Love, this Divine Love, is the Command of Allah. It is not the love that the world is talking about today so cheaply. It is not the love that drives people to forget Allah and His Prophet and to start worshiping to their desires. It is not the selfish, feel-good love that dominates the west, and now the east and the whole world. The Love that Allah defines is the Love that makes man to become Hazreti Insan. This is an ocean. As the Ottoman Poet Seyyid Seyfullah is saying, “This love is a deep ocean. It doesn’t have limits, it doesn’t have boundaries. My proof is the Secret of the Kuran.” The Secret of Love is in the Kuran. And the Keepers of that Secret are those who are the walking Kurans.
Alhamdulillah that Allah gave us the honor to be in the Dergah of such a Sultan of Ashk, Sahib el-Sayf Sheykh Abdul Kerim el-Kibrisi el-Rabani. He is speaking to the whole world, correcting the wrong understanding of love, and teaching what real love is, saying: “(Hz. Mevlana Rumi said): “If you love me, that must bring you to the Prophet Muhammad (AS). If you are not reaching to the Prophet, your love for me is ego, it’s your egoistic understanding.” So what is Ashk? What’s your understanding of Ashk? Your understanding of Ashk is only males and females. But Mevlana’s Ashk wasn’t male and female Ashk. Mevlana was Ashik to his master. To Shams. Shams. Yes, Shams. To his Teacher. To his Shaykh. He was Ashik, he was lost in his ocean. That’s what he was. But the western understanding of ashk is below the belly button. And this is how Muslims understanding now too. They got sick with the same disease.
Ashk is a passion that moves you! It moves you to do things for Allah’s sake. It moves you to love for Allah’s sake. It moves you to hate for Allah’s sake. It moves you to live for Allah’s sake. It moves you to die for Allah’s sake. It moves you to take for Allah’s sake. It moves you to give for Allah’s sake. That’s what ashk is. That’s what passion is.” Holy Prophet (AS) came to light the hearts on fire with Ashk. And his inheritors came to spread that same fire in the hearts, all burning from the same source. Are our hearts on fire? Or are our hearts dead? Yes, the heart has to burn from that Ashk. As Hz Dervish Yunus Emre is saying, “Let the Ahiks burn with your Love, ya Rasulallah. Let them drink the Sherbet of love until they are satisfied. The one who loves you aren’t afraid to lay down their lives for you. You are the blazing sun of the two worlds, ya Rasulallah. I fell in love with your beauty, as the nightingale fell for the rose. Let the one who doesn’t love you be burned in the fire, ya Rasulallah.” That is the type of Ashk that belongs in the heart of the believers. That is the type of Ashk that is due for the one who is Rauf and Rahim, and for those who are representing him. That Ashk, it’s not the stuff of fairy tales and fantasies. That Ashk is what moved the world, and that Ashk is what gave honor to the Muslims and to Islam. We should hear about them, and remember them, and pray to be like them.
Someone asked Hz. Ali, “How was your love for Rasulallah?” Hz. Ali (KW) said, “Wallahi– we loved him more than our wealth, our sons, our fathers, and our mothers, and more than cold water in the time of severe thirst.” (Shifa). There was one Ansari lady, that during the battle of Uhud, she found out that her father was martyred, that her brother was martyred, and that her husband was martyred. When the people came to comfort her, she just looked at them and said, “How is my Rasulallah?” They told her that he was
okay but she said, “Let me see him, so I can look for myself.” And what did this lady, that the most closest ones to her family-wise had been killed, what did she say when she looked upon the face of Hz. Peygamber Efendi? She said, “Ah! Every suffering is nothing, now that I see you safe.”
The words of Hz. Yunus Emre, they were real. They’re not poetry. They were real. Qadi Iyad is narrating that a lady came to Hz. Aisha and said, “Show me the grave of Rasulallah.” And the lady looked at Holy Prophet’s Tomb and cried until she died. That love, that real Ashk, it makes the mountains cry. Once Hz. Umar al-Faruk (RA) was doing patrol at night, and he saw an old lady knitting in her house. And she was saying to herself: “May the Salawat of the good be upon Muhammad! May the Most Blessed One bless him! I was standing before dawn in tears. If only I knew, when death changes our existence, whether the Next Life will join me to my beloved, (to my Muhammad).” And Hz. Umar, that lion, he sat down in the street, and he started crying. This is real. Those were real people. They had real concerns, they had real worries, they had real thoughts, they had real anxieties. And all their concerns was about their love to their Prophet and to Allah. That is their main conern. Everything else is nothing to them. Their Love, their Ashk, they didn’t keep it for themselves, because that kind of love you cannot keep it for yourself. You have to share it. That Ashk made them move and change the world. That Ashk made them change the Order of the entire world. That same Hz. Umar, he brought more than 2 million square miles under the shade of Rasulallah’s flag. He didn’t sit with that Ashk. That Ashk made him restless to continue the work of Holy Prophet (AS).
And Holy Prophet (AS) said there would always be such people in his Ummat. He (AS) said: “Those in my Ummat with the strongest love for me are the people who will come after me. Some of them would give their family and wealth just to see me.” (Bukhari). And the Holy Prophet (AS) speaks the Truth.
If we want to see those people, all we have to do is to look at the People of the Ottoman Empire. This was not one thousand years ago. This was hardly one hundred years ago. As Sahib el-Sayf is saying: “we are sincere with the love of our ancestors that Ottoman empire that they are holding tightly the orders of Allah and His Prophet. And every day that is passing, they run to make it better.” The Ottomans, from the Sultan to the most simple people, they were a nation of Ashiks for the Holy Prophet (AS). They were a nation that was in love with His Inheritors, with His Friends. They were a Nation that was restless by moving for the sake of Allah. They were a Nation that was restless
to take care of the poor, the orphan, the neighbor, the helpless, the oppressed, because they knew that doing so would bring a smile to Holy Prophet’s face. They were restless to bring justice to their entire ummat, not only to the believers. Their only concern was to obtain the happiness of Holy Prophet. That’s why Fatih Sultan said: “I don’t want this conquest. I don’t want Egypt. I don’t want it. I am Sultan Fatih, in front of Istanbul. I’ll burn this City down- just for a smile on your face. Otherwise, I don’t want a Sultanat that doesn’t make your rose-face smile- I don’t want Istanbul.” The Conqueror of Istanbul.
Listen to Sultan Ahmed the First, the Murid of Aziz Mahmud Hudayi, the builder of the SultanAhmet Camii. He said, “What would happen if, as my crown, I always carried the Footprint of the King of the Prophets? He is the Rose of the Flowers of Prophethood. Go Ahmed, run to rub your face upon the foot of that rose.” Sultan Ahmed didn’t sit with that love. He brought the Ottomans to the doors of the Hasburgs with that Love of Rasulallah. And who planted that love in his heart? His Murshid, his Shaykh. As Sultan Bahoo is saying, “Long live my Perfect Guide, who has planted this seed of love in my heart.”
Aziz Mahmud Hudayi (Hz) planted that seed in the heart of Sultan Ahmed. O Believers! Who have you taken to guard the garden of your heart? Sahib el-Sayf is giving lesson and giving warning, saying: Why did we bring out this history? This history is to show that, Sultan Ahmed was the Sultan of dunya but Aziz Mahmud Hudayi, he was a
Saint Sultan of Ahiret. So now, in the olden days, people were running to enter to Tarikat that time because they understand the foolishness of dunya and they want to complete their journey to their Lord. They understand that they have to have a Sheykh to help them to reach to that station. But now, in akhir zaman, in the end of the time that the world is boiling with dirtiness, everywhere is filled with such foolishness, Allah Jala wa’ala (SWT) open doors for us to find a Sultan. He brought us to a Sultan. You know him, you met him, you are with him and you are sitting in the prayer lines, you are sitting in the zikir together with him. Instead of thinking what is going to open up for me, what should I do to become a better servant, you are still thinking of dunya or sleeping? Astaghfirullah al-Azim wa atubu Ilaih. Are you understanding where you are? And do you now understand where they were? The murids in the past, they left all the dunya to become murid. The murids today, they are coming to be murid but they are running after dunya in the doors of the Tarikat.
Wake up to yourself because this life is only given one time and this, what Allah jala wa’ala (SWT), the door that He has opened to us, it didn’t open to billions of people. So understand the value and hold it tightly and live according to that. Don’t have two hearts. You have to have one. And when you are living for Allah, Allah is going to complete your dunya too. If you are not living for Allah, your dunya is gone, your akhirat will be gone too.”
O Muslims! O Murids! Wake up. What more do we need to hear to wake up? What more sign of Judgment Day do we need to see to wake up? What more sign of the rise of dajjal do we need to see to wake up? What more earthquake, landslide, volcano, do we need to see to wake up? Nuh (AS) called his nation for seven hundred years. He gave the warning. And the chance was there to take the warning. But once the sky became dark and the ship was closed, the time to wake up was finished, and only those inside the ship were saved. Wake up. Our Sheykh and our Grandsheykh are saying to us, the Flood of Fire is coming. Wake up. Run to the Ships of Safety. Run with Ashk. Move with Ashk. Live with Ashk. That is how Seyh Efendi lived, and that is how he passed. Insha’Allah, we are also asking to live like that, and we are also asking to die like that.
InsyaAllah, we are also asking Allah to live like that, we are also asking to be like that, we are asking Allah to give us Strength to do His Work and Holy Prophet’s (AS) Work and our Sheykh’s Work. We are asking Allah to let us reach to those who are helpless. We are asking Allah to let us to reach to the Mazlum, and the Orphans, and the Strangers. We are asking Allah to save us from the fitne of dajjal. We are asking Allah to count us in the work of Hz. Mehdi. We are asking with the words that Sultan el-Evliya used, saying: “Ya Rabbi, what can we do? What can we do now? What should we do? We are left without a Master, without a Sultan. May You send us a Sultan soon. May You send the Ottomans, O Lord. They overpower all of them. I am saying about the Ottomans that they fit to the Ayat- that they loved Allah and Allah loved them. Subhan Allah. Fatiha. Amin.”
