All praises are due to Allah, Lord of the Universes. All praises are due to Allah Who is the First, the Last, the Manifest, the Hidden, the One with Might and Power over all things. All praises are due to Allah Who sent His Habib, Sayyidina Muhammad (AS), as the Mercy to the Universes. May peace and blessings be upon the Sultan of the Prophets, the Imam of the Messengers, the Guide of the Awliya’, Sayyidina Muhammad (AS), and upon his noble family, and his blessed companions, especially upon the Four Khulafa-e-Rashideen, Hz. Abu Bakr el-Siddiq, Hz. Umar el-Faruq, Hz. Osman el-Ghani, and Hz. Ali el-Murtaza, and all those who follow them until the Last Day.
May peace and blessings be upon the Noble Mashayikh of the Tarikat el-Nakshibendiyyetil Aliyye, the Possessors of the Inheritance of Nubuwwat. May peace and blessings be upon the Majestic Padishahs of the House of Osman, who preserved the Light of Islam, and upon all those who walk in their path until the Last Day.
Ya Ayyuhal Mu’minoon! O Believers! The Heavens are preparing for their New Year, but mankind is sleeping. The Night of Destiny is coming close, and mankind is walking in ghaflat upon the earth. Whether people take it seriously or not, Laylatul Beraat is coming in just a few days- Allah takes it seriously. His Holy Prophet (AS) takes it seriously. The Angels who are descending to the earth take it seriously. Our Sheykh is taking it seriously.
Ghawth al-Azam, Hz. Muyiddin Abdul Kadir el-Geylani (KS) is recording this Hadith of Holy Prophet (AS) about the Beraat night: BismillahirRahmanirRahim. Jibril (AS) came to me on the night of mid-Sha’ban and said to me: “Ya Muhammad (AS), raise your head to the heavens!” I asked him: “What night is this?” and he replied: “This is the night when Allah (SWT) opens three hundred of the gates of mercy, forgiving all who do not make anything His partner. The only exceptions are those who practice sorcery or divination, they are addicted to wine, or persist in usury and zina; these He does not forgive until they repent.” At a quarter of the night, Jibril (AS) came down and said: “Ya Muhammad (AS), raise your head!” So I looked up, to behold the gates of Paradise wide open. At the first gate an angel was calling: “Good news for those who bow in worship this night!” At the second gate an angel was calling: “Good news for those who prostrate themselves in worship this night!” At the third gate an angel was calling: “Good news for those who make duas this night!” At the fourth gate an angel was calling: “Good news for those who make zikir this night!” At the fifth gate an angel was calling: “Good news for those who weep this night from fear of Allah!” At the sixth gate an angel was calling: “Good news for those who submit this night!” At the seventh gate an angel was calling: “Will anyone ask, that his request may be granted?” At the eighth gate an angel was calling: “Will anyone seek forgiveness, that he may be forgiven?” I said: “Ya Jibril, how long will these gates remain open?” He replied: “From the beginning of the night until the break of dawn.” Then he said: “Ya Muhammad (AS), tonight Allah has as many slaves freed from the Fire as the number of woolly hairs on the flocks and herds of the Kalb-tribe.” (Ghunya al-Talibin). And the Holy Prophet (AS) speaks the truth.
And our Sheykh, Sahib el-Sayf is saying about this coming night: “This is the night, that divine orders are changing, divine orders are changing in the sky. The Night of Beraat. The new calendar. The calendar of the sky. Muharram, it is the earth calendar. And Beraat is the night of sky’s calendar, the things are changing there completely too. Everything, it’s coming to surface to start sending down, and whatever is going to send down, is not going to change, up until next year. So how thrilled are you? How much passion you have in your heart toward to that?” And the Friends of Allah they speak the truth.
O Believers! This Night is coming in the Month of the Holy Prophet (AS). Intelligent people will use their ‘aql and they will think and say, “why did Allah (SWT) put this night in His Habib’s Month? Why is the night of destiny, why is the night when one year is being sealed, why is it in the Month of Holy Prophet? Why is the New Year of the Heavens in the Month of His Habib?” And when a man sits and thinks he understands the reason- Allah is Merciful, and He wants to show us His Mercy, and He has put this Night into the Month of His Mercy to the Universes. Be sincere. Seyh Efendi says, you can fool the whole world, but don’t fool yourselves. If our last year is put on the scales of justice of the Divine Judge, what will happen to us? As the world has seen, we would only find disaster. But Allah has covered His Justice with His Mercy. And mankind is kicking the Justice and the Mercy of Allah, and that Mercy is the Holy Prophet (AS).
Beraat, it is a small Qiyamah for the person who thinks. It is a time to take ourselves to judgment. We must take an example from the Great Qiyamah, the Day of Judgment. What will happen that day? Holy Prophet (AS) said: “Allah will join the first and the last on the Day of Rising and they will be consumed with anxiety, and will say to each other, “if only we could find someone to intercede for us with Allah.” The sun will come close and people will feel such distress that they won’t be able to bear it. They will come to Adam (AS) and say, “you are Adam, the father of mankind. Allah created you with His hands and breathed some of His spirit into you and let you dwell in His Garden and made the angels prostrate to you and taught you the names of everything. Intercede for us with your Lord so that He will rescue us from the position we are in. Don’t you see what we are going through?” And our father Adam (AS) will say, “My Lord is angry today, with such an anger that has never been seen before and won’t be seen again. He forbid me from the Tree and I rebelled. Nafsee, Nafsee! O my ego, o my ego! Go to someone else, go to Nuh (as).” They will go to Hz. Nuh and say, “You are the first of the Messengers to be sent to the people of the earth and Allah called you a thankful servant,” and they will ask him for intercession, for Shafaat, and he will say “My Lord is angry today with such an anger that has never been before and will never be again. I committed an error when I asked my Lord without knowledge. Nafsee, Nafsee! Go to Ibrahim, he is the Friend of Allah, Khaleelullah.” Hz. Ibrahim (as) will also say, Nafsee, Nafsee! And will send them to Hz. Musa, Kaleemullah. And Hz. Musa will say, “I cannot do it,” and he will say his mistake by killing a person. Nafsee Nafsee! Go to Isa, who is the Spirit of Allah and His Word. And Hz. Isa will say, “I cannot do it! You must go to Muhammad (AS), the Servant whose past and future have been forgiven.” This is the Holy Prophet (AS) speaking, so listen. “Then they will come to me and I will say- “I will do it! I will do it! And I will go and ask permission from my Lord, and He will give me permission, and when I see Him, I will fall into sajdah. Allah will open His Praises to me, praises of an excellence never granted to anyone before.” And it will be said, “Ya Muhammad! Lift up your head. Ask and it will be given. Intercede and your intercession shall be granted.” And I shall raise my head and say, “Ya Rabbi, My Ummat! Ya Rabbi, my Ummat!” And it will be said, “Go and bring out whoever has a barley-grain of belief in his heart.” And I will do that and then return to my Lord and praise him with those praises, and He will tell me to bring out whoever has the smallest mustard-seed of belief and I will do that.” (Shifa of Qadi Iyad).
Allahumma Salli wa Sallim wa Barik Alayh. That is our Holy Prophet (AS). He is our only source of Safety. Beraat night comes to remind us of this. Beraat night comes in the Month of Holy Prophet (AS) to make us to rebuild the connection between us and him. Beraat night comes to rebuild the Love between us and him. How can we hear this Hadith and not feel Love to that Prophet (AS)? Alhamdulillah that we are Ahlu Sunnah wal Jamaah, and that we are not sunk in the misguidance of deviants. Other groups have come and tried to erase the love of the Holy Prophet (AS) from the hearts of the believers. But we know, as a foundation, our religion and our faith and our Ihsan is founded upon the Love of Holy Prophet (AS). So many in the Ummat now are re-awakening to the Love of that Holy Prophet. But they are running after the idea only- love of the Prophet. What does it mean, what is the reality, of being in Love with Rasulallah (AS)? This is not a time for theory or for opinions or to think of what it is. The way to love, it is only from the Sahaba-e-Kiram. Holy Prophet (AS) is saying, “My Companions are like stars. Whoever you follow, you will be guided.” And he (AS) is also saying: “My companions are like salt in food- food is no good without it.” How were those Companions showing their Love to him?
We must look at their lives. We must look at the lives of the Sahaba-e-Kiram. Never will you find that they were just sitting at home and making Salawats and saying, this is the love of my Prophet. Never you will see that they were just writing poetry about him and saying, this is my Love. Never will you see that they were just crying and missing him and saying, this is my Love. Yes, they made Salawat, they made poetry, they were crying for him. But that wasn’t the reality of their Love. The essence of their Love, it was living and dying for the Mission of the Holy Prophet (AS). Their life was to be those who were working to continue to spread the Light of Holy Prophet (AS) in every house- whether he was present physically or not. They put their life on the line for the Work of the Holy Prophet (AS). Who loved the Holy Prophet (AS) more than Siddiq el-Akbar? The Companion of the Cave, the Travel-Companion of the Hijrah, the Yaar of Habibullah. What was he always running for? To increase the Hizmet for Islam. He was the first in giving his wealth- he is the first who gave all his wealth. He is the first in giving his life- being beaten at the Kaaba and fighting in every battle. He gave everything for the Holy Prophet. And what is more difficult than losing your most Beloved One? What is more difficult than losing your most Beloved One, and continuing his work?
We are in the Urs of our Sheykh. We have some taste of that pain. What is more difficult than that? But Hz. Abu Bakr el-Siddiq, he did not collapse under the weight of his sadness- because he knew that the meaning of his love had to come through by continuing the mission of the Holy Prophet (AS). In secret, by himself, he showed his heart. When he kissed the Holy Prophet (AS)’s face after his veiling, he said, “O my Master- how beautiful you are in life, and how beautiful in passing. You tasted what is decreed by Allah, and now it will never touch you again. Your home now is Paradise near Allah. You came from Allah, and now you have gone back to Allah.” But when Hz. Abu Bakr came before the people, he came with a different face. He came with the face of leadership. His love came in the form of what was needed- preserving and continuing and defending the Community of Holy Prophet. Defending Islam.
Sahib el-Sayf is opening this, saying: “When Hz. Abu Bakr (RA) became Khalifah, did he become weak? No. When he was Khalifah he said, ‘From now on, although I didn’t want it, but when this position is given to me now and you are all saying alright, we agree, from now on what I say, you must follow. As long as I stay in the way of Allah and His Prophet (AS), what orders I give you, you must follow. What I forbid you, you must run away from. And if you do otherwise, I am the Khalifah.’
Who did he say that to? To all Sahabis that were there.” And what was the first action of Hz. Abu Bakr as a leader? He went to war against the traitors. To preserve what the Holy Prophet (AS) had established.
To continue the mission of Islam. To protect the small group of Muslims against the majority who had betrayed and who had turned around to completely destroy what the Prophet came to bring. And the same with Hz. Umar. When Hz. Abu Bakr was passing, he called Hz. Umar to his room and told him that he was choosing him as the new Khalifa. Hz. Umar said, “I don’t want this.” And Hz. Abu Bakr said very strongly and with heybet- “But this needs you. I have prayed to Allah to help me choose the correct Khalifa, and this is necessary for the unity and strength of the Ummat.” And Hz. Umar, privately, yes, he was mourning the loss of his Prophet. He had, perhaps, the most intense love for the Holy Prophet- so much that he had been ready to behead anyone who claimed Holy Prophet (AS) had gone. But that Lover did not fall down- he stood up to continue Holy Prophet’s work. He continued Abu Bakr as-Siddiq’s work.
Listen to what he said in his first Hutbe: “O Believers! Hz. Abu Bakr is no longer with us. He led us for two years and returned to Allah. He guided the Ummat to safety, and fought the ones who had left Islam, and Islam is supreme because of him… After Abu Bakr, the cloak of Khilafat came on my shoulders. I swear by Allah I never wanted this. I wish it would have gone to another. But now that it has come to me, I will not run away from this job… Ya Allah, I am a hard person- make me soft to work for Hakk better. Ya Allah, make me hard against the enemies of Islam and those who make fitnah.” These are the ones who had the most love. And their example is on top of our heads. Don’t fear. They loved the Prophet, and the Prophet (AS) loved them. They showed their love by doing his work. They showed their love by raising his flag. They showed their love by spreading his teachings and religion to the four corners of the earth, and by spreading peace and justice in his name. They are the ones who brought the sunlight of Islam into every house.
They looked at what was needed in their time, in their place, for their people, and they brought the Message of Holy Prophet (AS) for that situation. That is the example of Love. And their love is so accepted that they now rest in the Garden of their Beloved, with their Beloved, until Judgment Day. Our Seyh has taught us, “Ashk is a passion that moves you. It moves you to do things for Allah’s sake. It moves you to love for Allah’s sake. It moves to hate for Allah’s sake, it moves you to live for Allah’s sake. It moves you to die for Allah’s sake. It moves you to take for Allah’s sake. It moves to give for Allah’s sake. That’s what ashk is.” This Passion did not end in the Age of Khulafa-e Rashideen. It continued through the Evliya and through the Saliheen, and through every believer who was living and dying for Allah. And this Passion, the Crownbearers of this Passion for 800 years were our Masters, the Ottomans, and those ones who were together with them before. Those Sultans, those Vezirs, those People, they were all drowned in the Love of the Prophet. Their hearts were so electric for the sake of that Love that their hand had to cover their hearts just when they heard the name, “Muhammad (AS).” They did not care if people liked them or lived them. They hate and they love for Allah’s sake, not for anyone else’s. And in that time, in the time of the Ottomans, the manifestation of the Love of the Holy Prophet (AS) that was needed was to show the Might and the Glory of Islam.
The Ottomans came and built a tremendous and majestic civilization- not for themselves. But as a proof, as a testament to their Love for Holy Prophet and as a gift for him. And as a gift, a testament, to the Ummat that is going to come until Judgment Day. They did not need the cities or the palaces or the buildings. That is why Fatih Sultan can say, “I’ll burn this whole city, I’ll burn this whole city down just for a smile from your rose-face.” It wasn’t about the masjids. It wasn’t about Istanbul. It wasn’t about Asia. It wasn’t about Europe. It was about the Ashk of Habib-i Kibriya Sayyidina Muhammad (AS). And yes, those Sultans sat on the majestic thrones of glory. But they bent down on their hands and knees to clean the Rawza-i-Sherif of their Master. They used to write letters, love letters to the Holy Prophet (AS) asking him for his help.
This is the letter of Al-Shaheed Sultan Abdul Aziz Han to his love, the Holy Prophet (AS), and he says: “Your sinful and rebellious Servant of the Ummat, Abdulaziz Han ibn Mahmud Han Ghazi is begging day and night that your Shafaat reach him on the Judgment Day. Ya Rasulallah! Keep the enemies of the Devlet-i-Aliyye and Shariat el-Ahmediyye far and hidden from us. And grant victory to the Muhammedi soldiers who are fighting disbelief.” He was addressing directly to the Holy Prophet (AS). When those enemies of Islam, when the sheytans took over the Rauza e-Sherif, they found thousands of such letters in the Tomb of the Holy Prophet (AS). They held up those letters and they said “Don’t you see? This is proof. Even your Khalifahs made shirik. They are asking the Prophet and not asking Allah.” But that is the heart of those Sultans. And those Sultans were taking that love and it was moving them and burning them to help the whole of mankind, to bring them justice, to bring them the Mercy of Ramatalil Alameen. We lost this today. The Ummat lost this today. Today’s Ummat thinks that opening a stadium and bringing thousands to read Qasidas together is the proof of the love of Prophet. It is not. Even a kafir can do that, even hypocrites can do that. The Love of the Holy Prophet (AS) is to fight against injustice, to fight against Batil. It is to fight against oppression. And to live for that sake, and if it is necessary to die for that sake. And that cause, it is not only for Muslims. It is for the whole of humanity, and that justice is for the whole of creation that Allah SWT has created. But that is regarded as extreme now. And this makes a man who believes in that to become strange.
The Love of the Prophet, the love of the Siddiqs, the Faruks, the Ghanis, and the Murtaza, and the hearts of the Evliyaullah, and the hearts of the Osmanlis, it became gharib, strange to 21st century Muslims today. But it is not strange to us, Alhamdulillah. If it is strange, we want to be strange. We want to be strange so that we may be counted amongst those strangers. Our Seyh, may Allah raise his station, is one of those. He said “Mankind lost because they lost their prophet. Prophets they are living, they are not dead. Prophet (AS) is not dead. Yes. Islam began strange, and it’s going to end strange. This is what the Holy Prophet is saying now. What is began strange? Look at the strange times. The beginning of Islam. Islam began strange, so look at the time of Umar (RA) and all other ones. Look at the time of Prophet (AS), he opened the flag of Islam in Madinah, and the light of that flag started reaching everywhere. Go look at that. Go look at 13 years (of suffering) in Mecca. Islam began strange! Look at how many of those Sahabis lives, you even know. They were just living like you, they have positions too. How many of you really understand what they did? To understand why Prophet called them strange? Islam began strange, they are strangers, and it’s going to end strange. It’s going to end strange, yes. So, this is the time coming to the end of Islam. End of time. End of everything. Waiting for Mahdi. Mahdi is going to come, Isa is going to come. One two three. Last days, Qiyamet is going to happen.
Everything came to the end. The world wide lifestyle is at the end. Everything is finished. Everything that Allah (SWT) has put in creation is about time to come to the end. This has never happened before. We are in the Ahir of Ahir of Ahir Zaman. Holy Prophet came at the end of times. Completely the end we became. Yes, we are the strangers. Who are the strangers? (I’ll tell you who is not the strangers)- those who are not the strangers, those that are keeping their normal lifestyle with kafir together, daily routine nice lifestyle continuing. Secular lifestyle and then coming to pray sometimes, next day same thing again. Those are not the strangers. Those are one of the casualties that is falling into that trap. The strangers are the ones that the Holy Prophet is saying, they are going to be carrying fire in their hands. They cannot afford to throw it away, otherwise they will lose their faith. So they are going to change it from one hand to another hand. Can you still call yourself from the strangers? No. The strangers are those ones that Holy Prophet in that time saying to them, you don’t do this anymore, and they stop, no matter what, they stopped. They didn’t run back to do that. They give their life, but they didn’t run back to that.
So there was a lifestyle. Islam came to teach us how to live. Islam is not something to talk about it. Islam is not something to debate! Islam, it’s a lifestyle, you have to put it in your life! Islam is teaching you how to keep your faith, how to keep the teachings of Holy Prophet (AS) in your life. While you are in living in those places. And not to become one of them. That’s what Islam is teaching. That’s what Prophet (AS) is teaching. That’s what those who have permission from Holy Prophet (AS) are there to teach you. Nothing else.” These are the teachings that are going to save us in these End of Times. These are the teachings that are going to make us to feel the love that the Sahaba had in their hearts. These are the teachings that are going to make meaning and sense in our lives. These are the teachings will us peace and satisfaction and a reason for living and dying in our lives. These are the teachings that will let us to pass through the Beraat. May Allah (SWT) bless our Master Sahib el-Sayf for giving us these teachings, and may He count us as those who are living with an Ashk that moves us for His Sake, for the Prophet’s Sake, for the Evliya’s Sake, to raise up the flag of Islam. May Allah forgive us for our weakness, may Allah accept our weak service, may Allah be happy with us. Amin.
